Look, tempers and tensions are high right now. I am one of the many who are displeased about the brutosaur mount but please take the time to hear me out.
Blizzard has put so much effort into showing the love of Warcraft in this event. I enjoy Mount Mania, Fashion Frenzy, the raid is awesome, Time-walking is fantastic. It truly felt like a love letter to the fans, and it was being advertised as such.
Seriously, go look at some of the vendors, the rewards for the event are awesome. Being able to also turn into beloved warcraft characters for a time? It feels fun. Warm. New. Blizzard has put so much work into this patch, albeit bugs aside. I ran original Deadmines, you know how cool that felt? I haven’t done that through LFG since Wrath.
Then today the news was dropped that they were not only releasing a $30 mount pack including mounts that are based off of WC3 races, which in my opinion were probably anniversary mounts to begin with, but they also dropped the “$90 mount”.
Never, have I ever witnessed a company have so many Wins, back-to-back and then be so tone deaf to their players in the blink of an eye.
This mount pack and the brutosaur are an issue with the anniversary. Let’s look at the description of the Brutosaur:
Presenting the awe-inspiring Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur, adorned with a 20th Anniversary themed harness set with gems representing WoW’s expansions. Brave the world of Azeroth on this magnificent Zandalari beast with Morten and Killia, bringing the auction house and the mail with you on the go!
The very event that was promised to the fans is now being monetized EVEN more in a way that feels scummy. Blizzard took a mount that was OBTAINABLE in game with in-game currency, removed it, reskinned it and threw it on the shop for real world currency and claims it’s for cahoots of the event. Sickening.
You can sit and try to defend this mount. Great, you may have the gold to get the tokens to buy it; Hell, maybe you have enough to buy it with cash. Either way, it’s bad for the game. The game requires a subscription, and the game also requires you buy the expansion packs to do current content. Let’s do some quick math and work this out together.
Costs
The War Within Expansion : $49.99
Subscription : $14.99
So, with this knowledge, for the price of the $90 mount, I can buy two months of game time and the latest expansion for roughly $80 USD before tax and still have a little less than $10 left utilizing the $90 budget of this mount.
The final thing I want to say to close this out, you know Blizzard is going to have this mount be shown in Mount Mania. Exposure will lead to more sales and overall, the event has been ruined for me and I feel like I don’t want to play the game.
Even people are divisive about it in trade chat, the people who bought it are calling people slurs and the people who didn’t are venting their frustrations.
It’s shocking and feels like people who are spending money have an advantage of utilizing the systems of the game by paying real world money. At least with the original mount, it was only bought with in game currency. It was earned.
Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk. Discuss below.
