lol…this is exactly what happened to me yesterday in eots, my team was saying lose fast and i went and capped dr DR, it was a shock how 2 people kept insulting me just for doing that. ignored them and took some nice screenshots of chat and reported them.
even if people think that coming back on points is hard , i just didn’t wanna give up! those people who play to giveup should leave the bg or maybe quit the game.
it won’t, same mentality of giving up will join and afk if first 1min of bg didn’t go well, same with every issue in tbcc now! things are only getting worse.
The team Im on is good enough to hold 3 bases but always tries to go for a 4th - not as a decoy. So we get a 200 point lead or something like that, they keep going for a 4th base, we end up losing a base in the process and while we have a lead and can go back and just get a 3rd base they will be like “this team sucks, I give up, Im going afk” and its usually the guy or guys who has done the least to contribute. So now, since part of the team gave up, we’re now shorthanded then everyone else gives up and we lose a game we coulda won pretty easily.
Then the people who are like what the hell guys we can win this, someone will be like itll take forever with this crap team just give up and if you dont, they start asking everyone to report you afk.
My favorite Classic BG pugging was around the time between AQ40 and Naxx.
The PVP gear was largely considered irrelevant and a lot of people were done their Classic ranking grinds… so people would mostly queue up to have fun and PVP with their raid gear.
You’d see the same people a lot, the pug games were pretty competitive and they were just generally fun.
The second the TBCC prepatch came out the quality of the BGs dropped significantly as people often no longer play for fun but instead play just to get marks or whatever.
I don’t think this is true at all, I don’t agree with everything Slavegirl says but I find the posts to be thoughtful and genuine and the suggestions to be put out there because they think the suggestions will improve the game.
Your posts however are pretty much exclusively being rude to/attacking others for a reaction aka trolling.
A tale of two Arathis. At the start of one - during prep before the gates opened - a priest asked in chat if we could all just give up if we didn’t cap the blacksmith. Probably half the team didn’t say anything but there were at least five of us who told them they were free to just /afk out right then and there. Asked why they were bothering with a BG if they don’t actually like PvP and other things like that. I guess PvP shoulders were BiS for them or something stupid that I’m not going to bother caring about. We didn’t cap BS immediately, and ultimately lost by about 140 points. We tried reporting that priest as AFK but they were able to get into combat even though they were not at all contributing. Maybe if they had put some effort in we would have won.
About a week later, maybe more, during prep a couple guys start talking strategy. A rogue says he only needs one person to help him take Lumber Mill so we can make a hard press for BS; I’m skeptical but I volunteer. Nothing like a challenge, right?
That rogue was very impressive and I played probably my best that day cycloning and shifting out to heal. Nobody actually gained control of BS for over five minutes. We did manage to take GM from them before we finally got BS and we never did lose LM. The other team (I honestly don’t remember if they were real alliance or if this was HvH) tried snaking the farm, made a couple hard presses for LM that would have succeeded if we hadn’t called out for backup as early. We won by about 140 points but it was close the entire time and I swear it’s one of the best BGs I can remember.
The big difference between the two is that everyone seemed to want to be there for the competition and we were communicating with each other instead of arguing about who is bad and shouldn’t even be there.
I still look down on anyone who espouses the “lose fast” mentality and refuse to feel bad about it - especially now that you need so few marks for any of the gear anyway. If you get the BG as a daily then two wins nets you 9 marks right off the bat - then it’s just one more, win or lose, and you get a piece of gear.
Yep. Ive been in plenty like that. I would rarher that they remove the deserter debuff and let ppl just leave if they dont wamt to continue. I have been in every kind of possible outcome and there are times you can tell that its not happening. At least i can.
And when the other team has 4 bases capped in ab and they start to cap the 5th and your team is being gy camped, the one idiot that back caps a base is doing one thing. Prolonging the loss. There is no sense in it. Its best to get out so u can get into the next one.
most of them are just trash players, who can’t even get high rate in arena & for that i’m surprised why they’re even going into bg’s to get marks/gear when they don’t know how to pvp.
but i do respect any player, new or casual or who ever as long as he/she put effort in bg’s & Not just afk’ing or giving up because of whatever reasons.
Like … I’m not good. In original TBC I was a rogue main and never did dungeons (well, hardly ever) or raids - I just did BGs with a couple of friends for hours at a time. No Arena, just honor gear. I wanted it because we were on an active PvP server so it helped to do dailies and such.
Nowadays I’m still not good, still don’t do arena and there are like 7 alliance left on the server but I know how to make a rogue’s life a lot harder wherever it find them and resilience is really nice to have out in the world for whenever one of those 7 allies thinks it’s ok to get brave.
Hmmm, if i were to encourage healthier BG communities.
I would award bonus marks for objective milestones:
1 mark per WSG cap
1 mark per 500 resources in AB/EOTS
1 mark per bunker/boss in AV
Increase honor from kills by 200-300%
When marks get removed in WotLK, you can just turn marks into honor. However it is a delicate problem to balance, having the majority of honor attached to kills in PvP at least promotes playing over AFKing in BGs, but it also promotes premades that will just HK farm each game.
RBGs could be a good way of incentivising people to actually play by having it provide BOTH honor and arena points. If the honor gains from long competitive RBGs are better than short wins queing a random BG, competitive players will migrate to RBGs over premading and crushing solo queuers.
I found out pretty quickly thanks to the abundance of sweaty premades that during a 5 cap in AB if you start any flag (Stables was my preference) when the score is 1680 by the time the flag is turned it ends at 1990 and extends the game for literal seconds. By the time people were like wtf Corpse the game was over.
It was kind of a cool minigame during the ranking era. Once I ran into the streamers premade a few times and wrecked peoples attempts at going for the 5 cap tabard quest. It was kinda cool because when I ran into them shortly thereafter they would go looking for me lol.
So I agree with your overall premise but I think there are moments where you can deviate
This. Even with the updated honor gains they’re still horrendous. The #1 reason TBC arena participation has been so low is directly due to barrier of entry. Terribly low (until now) arena point gains and stupidly low honor gains make it a very unattractive idea
Haha. To ruin thier 5 cap achievment. Ok. U got me there. I would have never thought about that. Good reason.
I have been part of plenty where we fight like hell at the last base to prevemt them from taking a 5 cap. With the mindset that yeah screw you, we are not rolling over and handing you a quick win. That is not what i was refering to though. I was refering to those where your team, even all gathered at the last base gets quickly destroyed. No heals and they have 3 druid heals fully geared… but now. If it happens and someone back caps, i will juat smile and assume they are hopefully doing it just to prevent them from getting the 5 cap achiev. Lol.
