BfA survival is awesome!

Does MM or BM have more? How is the DPS in those?

I’ve ran into some pretty decent mm in m+ but ultimately, BM takes the cake with full mobility, spirit beast and the beast cleave mechanic from multi-shot.

I’m switching to SV from BM but don’t have any decent melee weapons (poles/staffs). What’s the best way to farm for an SV weapon? change loot specialisation to SV and keep running mythics and raids as a BM until and SV weapon drops?

Pretty much, also WQ rewards are based off of the opposite Loot Spec you have.

Thanks!

Did they change the WQ rewards to whatever your loot spec is in season 2?

No, it been like that from the start. Loot Spec for MM or BM when you log, go SV for running Mythic+ and raids. The spear I have now came from a loot chest though.

Let the farming begin!

If you haven’t done any PvP at level 120, you can get a 415 polearm pretty fast by running BGs.

I’ve only done PvP with BM spec currently at 432 ilvl

You should do fine.

BM really shines in PvP, i’m keen to see how SV matches up.

Havent done much pvp as SV, but its goo din pvp

Post history is too long here, looks like i might have missed the boat, but i feel like survival hunter has always had good damage since its inception and i think they have vastly improved it from legion (stuff like making mongoose bite a talent is dumb tho). It has ton of viable talents as well, which is nice for mixing up playstyles and as you said, we are great in pvp. After switching from MM to survival this expac i’ve honestly gone from someone who was 100% for ‘back to ranged survival’ to against it - though i would like it to have a 4th spec so that the old survival class fantasy could still exist since atm they are trying to shaft it into mm.

The real problem with survival atm however, is that we take up a melee spot without giving a buff/utility to go with it - Warriors give battle shout, Monks increase physical damage, Demon hunters increase Magical damage, Ferals have stampeding roar(while weak it is notable), Rets have blessings, Rogues have shroud for dungeons and outlaw has/did have ridiculous cleave. There are other specs without buffs, such as Dps Dk and Enhance. And guess which specs are desired for raid at all? Further more, you can kinda take dk’s out of the equation since they can only be melee so its somewhat expected - and they have a few things going for them - unholy can pump in pvp and dungeons, so it can’t have it all and frost is generally under tuned but your not really giving up anything going it in raid.

This then leaves us with the two undesirables - Enhancement Shaman and Survival Hunter. What do we bring to the raid? Well, shaman brings hero and survival brings hero - but the problem is, this can be brought by a mage, ele shaman or ranged hunter - so their ranged options bring equivalent damage with the same buffs. Currently there is zero reason to really even consider these specs in at least a mythic raid environment unless our numbers are insanely over tuned. To keep this hunter channel specific i’ll only mention survival stuff here, but they can make the entire spec viable by simply putting a situation raid buff on survival such as moving the current bloodseeker effect to be a raid wide buff or something like that (~maybe a slightly increased range within raid). Suddenly, bam, we are a viable option on some fights where the attack speed is strong and this leads onto more people actually trying the spec, due to having a reason to look at the melee option for what is essentially a ranged class. That’s all they have to do - everything else about the spec is honestly in a pretty good place.

We bring Lust and Tranq/Dispels right off the top of my head.

Yeah we do bring dispel. Honestly forget about it because theres not many situations outside of raid trash and some mythic plus weeks where its useful. +it requires our pet to be in melee range, so this is often over shadowed majorly by druids soothe just cause its super finicky to use imo.

It’s not that finicky that I’ve ever seen, but I also macro’d it as well.

I still see SV topping dps charts in most mythic + and Raids…surely that is what they bring to the group…high deeps?

Instead of a 4th spec, imagine if SV was changed to a Tank spec by giving our pet some sort of viable tank build.it’s great to have your pet as a tank soloing pve quests…but imagine if your pet was strong enough to tank in dungeons and raids. essentially you’d be tanking through your pet.
Just putting it out there.

This idea again?

If the point is to have a DIFFERENT tank than every other one then why not a range tank?

Basically, a BM hunter that support his pet into tanking. The pet can taunt, the hunter has ability that give him active mitigation, you can mend pet for added sustain. the key to playing a tank BM would be the good pet AI; however, to be at the mercy of the current level of pet AI now is a test in determination to make it work.

Making MSV a tanking spec would just push it even further from players. Player picked up Hunter for two original reasons, it deals damage from afar.

Blizzard has already remove one of those options if the other was taken away as well MSV would be dead.

Only it you’re mind would adding a tank spec not be attractive. I’ll give you it’s still a horrible idea…but really OG dorf? Really?

Here’s a novel idea for you, maybe just maybe, new hunters or other hunters without your mindset.

Don’t have the same ideology as to what defines a Hunter. I mean it’s their game to play right.
Crazy concept I know.

SURVIVAL! Best spec ever! Tank spec soon?!?

The only thing I like about the current iteration is that it seems to be allowed to do decently in pvp, unlike the other two hunter specs.

The design is weird, the fact that it’s mostly ranged abilities kind of bugs me. Legion survival actually felt like a melee spec and a hunter spec, it was also enjoyable despite being very hectic. This spec seems kind of hectic and fast too, but dumbed down considerably, and thrown together to try to please people who want ranged survival back.
