Do we have to carry searing nightmare into the next expansion?
I have yet to meet a single person that likes that spell

yes atm we do
Itās such a terribly designed ability, with so many drawbacks just to do the same aoe everyone else does without drawbacks
I really hate it
Well mind sear has been around for a decade so i presume they wanted to keep with that theme. But yes its a bad ability as it stands
They can keep it around while still changing how it fundamentally works. Look at Blizzard and Rain of Fire - two hallmark AoEs that have been around even longer, but which have both been heavily reworked in the past few expansions because Blizzard has long since realized that having a spammed channelled AoE is boring, bad, and otherwise problematic.
Funnily enough you are the second person to mention rain of fire to me today in relation to mind sear
Cool devās note under shadow for season 4.
Developersā note: We are looking into Shadowās AoE toolkit for Dragonflight and want to address the concerns brought up by the community. However, in the meantime, we are implementing these adjustments to help Shadowās performance in multi-target situations for Season 4. Weāll continue to watch Shadowās performance as the season unfolds and make further adjustments if needed.
Yah but if disc got that mind sear buff too it would help our dps a bit not greedy much hey
Holy would like Mind Sear too. Holy Nova is justā¦ aweful.
Also, itās good theyāre looking into the Shadow AOE situational. It has by far the worst AOE abilities out of all the casters Iāve played and you literally do 50% less damage if you donāt take Searing Nightmare to boot.
Would Holy like Mind Sear, or would Holy like a decent AoE? Because those are two very, very different things! Holy Nova might need to be more interesting and/or more effective, but I donāt think replacing it with MS is really the answer there.
Well, mindsear is a lot better to use from range than a poor version of arcane explosion.
Not saying holy would need mindsear specifically, but it feels a lot better to use still.
Kinda not thematic tho for holy.
Just had an idea for Shadow Talent options that was inspired by Paladins Retribution Auraā¦
For referenceā¦
Now for Shadowā¦
- Anamnesis
Upon death, your shadow persists for 8 sec, You cannot move, allowing you to continue fighting.
Grants immunity to all damage and harmful effects for 8 sec.OR (Choice)
- Clemency
Gain Dark Archangel for 6 sec after healing an ally for more than 50% health. Cannot occur more than once every 30 sec.
Basically you got 2 optionsā¦
Option 1 = You will die a lot be it in Raids or 5 mans or PvP and you can still continue to fight as a shadow version of your self (Basically opposite of Spirit of Redemption) for 8 seconds at the cost of being unable to move but you are also immune to any type of damage or crowd control effect.
Possible Talents that can synergize well
Option 2 = You play a more support role in that if you are able to save your allies from deathā¦ (Heal them up 50%+ of their health bar) then you get Dark Archangel (Or maybe Voidform or Power Infusion) for 6 seconds. The healing can be applied from Vampiric Embrace or Shield absorb amount counts towards the %.
Possible Talents that can synergize well
Adjust numbers as needed but the concept is a selfish option when you can still do stuff and be a threat if you die OR you can be rewarded by helping your allies in getting a power boost.
Another Talent ideaā¦
Modify Vampiric Embrace
- Vampiric Essence
Your Mind Blast reduces the cooldown on Vampiric Embrace when used on a target afflicted by your Vampiric Touch by 5 sec.OR (Choice)
- Sanguine Wraiths
Your Shadowy Apparitions extends the duration of Vampiric Embrace by 1 sec per target struck.
Please donāt give them any reasons to keep this >.<
Iām sure thereās a leveler or role player that likes the idea.
Regardless of the issues surrounding S2Mā¦ I was just trying to illustrate how these ideas can be used with our current toolkit, however they work just fine on their own.
The idea that basically you get a paladins immune bubble for 8 sec then die instead of just dying would be a nice little last chance/stand if you will be it in PvE or PvP but itās like an offensive spirit of redemption so you cannot be stopped unless you LOS or move out of range.
If surrender to madness worked like ravenous frenzy the Venthyr druid covenant ability , it wouldnāt be a bad idea imo
How so?
How would you see it working like Ravenous Frenzy?
Because I canāt seem to picture it.
For 20 sec, spells you cast increase your damage and healing by 2%, and haste by 1%, stacking.
If you spend 2 sec idle, the Frenzy overcomes you, consuming 1% of your health per stack, stunning you for 1 sec, and ending.
would sorta bring back the legion ish play style with out the overpowered ness from Mass hysteria and the minute cycles from coi,
Oh, I thought it would still be similar to how S2M works or the idea of what its about.
So you would rather just bring back Legion style of play talent instead. IMO, I donāt care what they do on the Void side. Its simply not my cup of tea as I would rather go for more traditional Shadow Priest consistent damage playstyle lol.
