To me, it feels like Crystalline Reflection is taking the place where something like Rapture should be (even though that would be an obviously overpowered thing to hand to Spriest/hpriest, especially in PvP)
Honestly I’d rather they took out Charitable soul and put something in its place - then the Crystalline Reflection line end in Fae Guardians (fits the “buffing others” theme the rest of that line is going for).
However, if that line is going to be Crystalline Reflection/PW:S themed, I’d change out Charitable Soul for our Torghast power Life Barrier (possibly at a reduced percentage). Which would at the very least make the other priests consider casting it once in a while.
Holy Word: Life feels like a tuning problem - and might be able to be fixed with numbers. If it’s going to exist, though, Tithe evasion should absolutely affect SW:D AND HW:L. No idea why it doesn’t currently.
really it’s just another huge example of why strict throughput shouldn’t be in the class tree if it can be helped, and should at the very least be partnered alongside alternate pathways to reach the same thing without wasting points in the throughput node that isn’t relevant for your role.
I kinda like it on Holy tough. If you managed to combine it with the 60% healing bonus from guardian + 10% from renew + 20 % from twist + 150% from lower than 20%hp it has potential to be a really strong healing. Or really dangerous one XD
I just dont know which % priority take place first tough
HW: Life should probably have a ‘proc’ chance to make it not be restricted to the 20% thresh hold. Something to make it worth pressing outside of emergencies. Maybe off of Surge of Light.
I personally do like the concept of it…it just needs some help
It’s odd, I think it is better suited to be within the Holy Priest tree then Lightwell. It fits it thematically better and should benefit off Holy Word usage.
It’s cool in the theme of the class. It could be the base node of holy in class tree and be empowered in the holy tree after. I just don’t like it being locked so deep for the other 2 specs. But I can understand it could be a very good oh s%$& button for disc and shadow… tune it down a bit mayne and make it super strong for holy priest woth holy word interaction and whatnot…
There’s not a lot of synergy with the left side of the priest tree that feels like a natural progression to this ability. I don’t get why Cleric Armaments/Tools of the Cloth is there at all on the far left. The tree seems to focus a lot on Prayer of Mending/Renew tree early and then for some reason, goes into PW:S in the later portion…
If it does stay in the general tree, it seems like something that should have been a connection between the Middle/Right side since it draws inspiration from SW:D. I guess not every “Holy Word” needs to be Holy inspired.
I’m not really sure about the entire general priest tree though. It’s just a mess imo.
It kind of feels like they should have added a nerfed version of Holy Word: Salvation where HW: Life is now that I look at it a bit more. Cause you’re right, after thinking about it more, this HW: Life would have been a cool Disc/Shadow connection node.
Benediction would have been a better deep talent option for the left side
Imo if they really wanted to go with the you do more dps when you keep a buff up bring back inner fire with charge system, but id rather they didnt and got rid of this for the same reasons they got rid of inner fire in the first place
What was that one passive we used to have in Mists, Inner Will, Inner Focus? When you took over 10% of your health in damage you gained a buff that stacked twice, giving you damage reduction for like ten seconds.
You could kinda take the reverse of that. ‘You gain X benefit, whenever you take more than Y damage, lose this benefit for Z seconds.’
Jak did a nice little video on the state of disc this morning. One thing he posed which has been posed here is trinity for dungeons. Could be capped making it useless in raids but good for keys. Since it can only be applied with pws that makes protector of the frail a more intersting talent in keys
Wow that’s alot of posts to read. Can I get a tl;dr? Are most people upset or happy with the trees for each spec? I saw the blue post so I think Blizzard is going to overhaul every tree, what do you guys think?
I kinda feel like the trees are underwhelming, especially the capstone nodes for Discipline.
Shadow’s is dire, holy’s is pretty bad but still functional, disc’s is about average but has some questionable design decisions and all three have undertuned weird talents that feel bad to have to invest into.
The priest class tree also makes no sense, as most of it is throughput / damage and each spec feels very pigeonholed into a specific area of the tree that gives them damage or healing, instead of being able to pick between various branches of situational utility.
It’s great to see Blizzard appear to recognise the problems with the tree, especially when it’s compared to other trees released such as shaman’s. However, we’ve been in this position before during an Alpha, especially Shadow, and we’ll need to see where they’re going with this before we can say if it’s going to work or not. Blizzard need to follow through this time, I doubt many people can take specs going live half finished for two expansions in a row.
There are some old shadow set bonuses that would be cool to see return as part of the talent trees.
Such as:
Tier 8: Your Mind Blast grants you x haste for y seconds
Tier 12: Shadowfiend/Mindbender deal extra damage as Fire and has a shortened CD
Tier 13: Was changed at some point but it used to state that shadowfiend and apparitions would give you shadoworbs, would like to see it reworked to enhance our fiend/bender and apps further
Tier 15: Both parts are excellent - apparitions having a chance to extend dots and cause the dots to deal an extra tick of damage, and VT granting a 10% chance on tick for an app.
Tier 16: Orbs spent increase damage of your next Mind Blast/SWD - would be a nice bonus.
Tier 17: Again both 2 and 4pc would be great, spending orbs(insanity) would reduce MB CD and whenever DP ticked we’d gain haste, stacking
Tier 18: Basically gave us permanent bender/fiend and the multistrike buff was SUPER fun.
Tier 19: Insanity on Dot ticks would be cool but might flood us, but rapid-fire voidbolts was fun from the 4pc.
As an addendum - please replace S2M, Searing Nightmare, and Shadowflame Prism with something else.
The bottom row of the General Priest tree is definitely where things are its worst.
Unwavering Will on the left-side is a 100% mandatory pick for Holy Priest because it’s a -20% cast time reduction on all of your heals and your smite casts. Holy Word: Life is just bad… you would backlash damage yourself 95% of the time. And then there’s a random Renew boosting talent. Right now I wouldn’t even put a point into HWL.
The PWS path is just a hot mess as well. Lights Inspiration shouldn’t be tied into that and should be higher in the tree branching off of Angels Mercy. This entire path needs to be overhauled.
The Mind Games path also has the absolutely most meme bad talent I’ve ever seen. A 10/20% reduction on SWD reflect damage to yourself… when you can take that talent without even picking SWD? I honestly don’t think anyone thought this out. Translucent Image should be higher up the tree as well.
Shadowflame Prism path seems to be the most reasonably balanced. Although, 2 points to waste on Rabid Shadows is a waste.
The best way I can describe the Holy Tree is they played it safe. There’s only one new talent in the entire top and middle row. Just one… and it’s tied to Surge of Light. All the other talents are existing abilities, conduits, or talents.
The bottom row is just overbloated with 2-point dumps and 3 separate rune talents that should be just one talent.
So really at the end of the day the only new abilities in the Holy Tree are Divine Word and Empyreal Blaze. Lightwell already existed in the past.
So take in account you have a lackluster tree and the loss of Flash Concentration, Fae guardians, and Boon of the Ascended… there’s a serious reason why they need to overhaul everything from scratch.
