(BETA) Dragonflight Priest Talent Tree Feedback Thread

Only people that never get PI complain about PI.

Twin Sun being in a good spot on the tree only makes it better too.

It’s targetable. It needs to be priest only.

Actually if i’m reading it right disc at least gets aoe silence through wicked star, if I understand the situation correctly disc gets aoe silence on a shorter cd then shadow does.

OOOOoooOoOoooh now I see what was said. ok thanks.

PI is a great utility spell until your spec gets nerfed because of it. Blizzard has never been shown to have the ability to leave classes alone that are fine outside of external buffs which is a problem because you will not always have those buffs.

I have a hunch that’s probably going to be nerfed or adjusted because a 15s spammable AOE silence puts Disc well into the S-tier category for M+ and PvP. Just as a point of reference melee interrupts are 15s.

Shadow, on second pass, looks like searing nightmare may not be needed except on mega-pulls and we can instead just focus on dotting up targets with Misery and focusing down a priority target with Devouring Plague/Mind Blast. We’ll be able to get all of these at the same time:

  1. Psychic Link, echoing 60% Mind Blast damage to nearby targets
  2. Insidious Ire, boosting Mind Blast damage by 40% on targets with DP
  3. Idol of N’Zoth, dealing aoe damage to nearby targets for each dot including DP
  4. Auspicious Spirits, which is not new, but what is new is that we can take it and Psychic Link at the same time (currently not possible in Shadowlands).
  5. Fortress of the Mind, which again is not new, but what is new is that we can get both it and Death and Madness (our go-to M+ talent) at the same time.

These could all combine to making a dot + mind blast meta more effective than searing nightmare.

While this does look really good for all 3 Priest specs I do have some questions.

Why is Power Infusion still in the game? Also, why in Shadow are they able to pass Power Infusion over to an ally and gain 50-100% of the buff themselves through a talent?

Power Infusion has been obnoxious all of Shadowlands. On top of that now this can happen with it.

They also got so much good stuff and changes to the specs. Comparing them to the other trees we have seen going to use Feral as an example here. Power Infusion with the passing ability for Shadow is okay and not to mention all the other really good options for All 3 specs is fine? But, going to Feral. Still no Leader of the Pack for the spec to benefit themselves and others in PVE, Sickle of the Lion their best thing for AoE damage not even being implemented so they losing a ton of AoE again, Very poor talents on the tree, Lack of any sort of Utility to make it easier for them to get into groups, and what looked to be a very poor attempt at even giving them a tree.

I am not trying to be rude or even ungrateful. But, Feral has been screwed over longer than any other class at this point. The Feral tree needs an Overhaul and revamp completely.

I was thinking this too :stuck_out_tongue:

In general I feel like the priest tree is in for a lot of change compared to the other two we’ve seen. The general class tree is really bloated, and the talents seem divided between whoa thats way op like the wicked star one and very bland multi point talents with little in between.

These trees are so cool. I was playing with the calculator for holy and a holy priest can go down a very shadowy path in the class tree and also do a very offensive damage playstyle for giggles with some holy fire burst windows.

This comes at some throughput cost so only really efficient healers can really pull it off. Will be very interesting to see what skilled priests like Mehx can do with this.

You can also tell the developers that put the discipline tree together are really into the class fantasy. I mean shadow covenant into schism into shadowy reprimand into halo and finish off with light’s wrath or mindgames…this all seems so fresh and exciting . Well done developers I hope shaman will be even half as interesting.

Absolutely unreal that this hasn’t been changed.

Power infusion:
10% of your friendly targets damage is repeated as holy damage, increase your own haste 25%, 90s cd

Why are we giving massive stat boosts to other classes throwing the competitive balance of DPS out of whack? What are we actually gaining with the current iteration vs what I typed above if you truly want to have some cooperative aspect baked in? Just idiotic design where you can cast it on others given the volume of feedback over this.

I posted this on the wowhead page but this is probably a better place.

The shadow tree is so disappointing to me. On the other dps trees we’ve already seen the vast majority of defensive and utility options were put into the class tree. On the other hand shadow has to make choices on whether to take dispersion, vampiric embrace, last word, or other cc options (like psychic voice which should really be in the class tree) over strong dps options. One of the things that bothers me the most is that no matter what you spec you’ll always be right next to misery, a talent that makes the rotation of shadow in a single target much more boring in my opinion. Unlike the current talent system where it’s big choice between taking searing nightmare, twist of fate, or misery, you don’t have the choice of taking twist of fate so it feels almost obligatory to take misery which is a big dps increase and lowers my enjoyment of the spec. If misery was lower on the talent tree it would make for an actual choice of whether to take it or not on cleave fights vs single target unlike right now. On top of that making dots super easy to maintain but putting many talents that interact with said dots later in the tree puts a bad taste in my mouth. The other problem I see with shadow compared to the other few dps trees we’ve seen is how packed the bottom 3 rows are. Just doing a comparison between frost and shadow shows that frost has 14 possible places to put points into while shadow has a whopping 23. The amount of multi-point talents in the bottom three rows also makes it very difficult to actually branch out. While on frost with 10 points I can potentially put points into 10 different talents, on shadow I can only put points into 6 talents at most. The lack of flexibility on the shadow tree is very sad to see for me as the current shadow tree on live is very well designed in my opinion.

I LOVE the holy tree! Please don’t change it

Overall, I’m not very excited or very disappointed for Shadow. It looks like the play style is going to be similar to how it is today. It looks like there will be more options for doing AoE damage, but I wish one of those would include Shadowy Apparitions in some way.

Things I hate about the priest and shadow trees:

  • Still having to choose between Searing Nightmare or Misery
  • Surrender to Madness still existing
  • Requiring Mind Sear to put points into Fortress of the Mind
  • Twist of Fate no longer activates when dealing damage to targets below 35% health
  • Forcing shadow priests to cast PI on other raid members
  • Silence no longer baseline
  • Dispersion no longer baseline

Things about the priest and shadow trees that look interesting:

  • All of the Old God Idols
  • Living Shadow
  • Monomania
  • Void Apparitions
  • Being able to take Hungering Void and Ancient Madness
  • Being able to take Mind Bender, Damnation, and Void Torrent

The change to Twist of Fate might not be that bad considering that we might be doing more damage based on new talents and having the potential for more damaging abilities at our disposal.

I hate the Holy Priest talent choices.

I thought the whole point of the Dragonflight Talent Tree was interesting and impactful choices.

But not even getting Flash Concentration as an option is lame.

Further, the Base tree just forces Holy into odd choices such as a focus on Power Word:Shield and Renew or ignore all of that for extra damage with Mindbender.

Then there is Power Infusion, which is just an ability which should be either nerfed or removed. It creates too much problems in the raid with people crying for it and makes getting parses the more important thing.

Lastly, I thought the idea was that every Specialization could now get an Interrupt, yet Silence is locked into the Shadow Tree.

Seems not all that great and could really use a rework.

As a PVE holy priest who focuses on raiding the general priest tree has basically no choices at all as only 1 side has anything I care about and the whole right side of damage/mind control talents are worthless for my preferred play style.

In the holy tree there is a little more choice but for raiding the holy fire talents are basically sub-optimal so it is more illusion of choice than actual choice as once you realize they are bad that radially narrows your options in the rest of the tree.

PS don’t say go disc as I am a raid leader and I don’t have the spare concentration to lead AND stay on top of discs micro attention to rotation/setup.

Question is is it going to act as an inturupt though? There have been times when spells existed that do silence a target and not stop the current spell from being casted . Aka a mob is immune to silence, which to be honest is very often currently making silence(shadow) spell rather lackluster. Needs clarification

I might be okay with searning nightmare if it wasnt a castable while casting spell, currently from tooltips mind sear generates noe insanity and searning nightmare costs none, making searning nightmare just a weird spell. Just make the talent a buff to mindsear imo

I see an issue with the current “work in progress mockup” for Shadow. As it stands currently, you can skip taking Void Eruption if you don’t want to deal with that gameplay, but you can still take the Void Touched talent (when not in Void Form, Mind Flay has a 5%/10% chance to allow you to cast Void Bolt). I’m not sure how that would work if you don’t have Void Eruption since Void Eruption changes to Void Bolt when in Void Form.
