2nd fastest attack speed in the game for pets. Wish we were getting pre nerfed pets but meh. At least we still get non nerfed attk speed.
So funny watching casters panic and run from kitty. Lol
I’m going with a boar but will switch to Humar at 23 if he happens to be there.
He’s my personal favorite and is the only black lion in Vanilla.
I like boars because they eat anything in front of them. But scorpids are real nice due to high armor + poison. If you want a group pet, wolf is uncontested, but it’s not ideal for soloing over numerous other choices. It’s the pro 60 dungeon group pet due to howl.
“Bear or Boar …the boar will stun mobs…for tanking a Turtle is good too. Boar will stun players in pvp too.”
Boars do not have a stun. They have a charge with a root on it. Turtles are garbage. If you want high armor, take scorpid. It has a poison.
Well now that you brought up prions disease I had to look it up. Wasn’t worried because I was blissfully ignorant about it. I think I may just train new pigs more often. Thanks together we shall beat it.
Bears eat everything so easy to keep happy.
I would go boar. They eat anything and can hold aggro.
I can recall so many hunters in Auberdine asking for fish for their pets.
If your pet only eats specific food you will be constantly on the hunt for it because they eat so much when you first tame them.
Boars…any vendor in any town sells food your boar can eat.
The earliest you can get a gorilla. Gorillas were low key OP
Where do you tame a gorilla at level 10 ?
If hunters are still broke then you can tame a level 12 pet when you are level 10.
Owl, get Screech from a Fleshripper in Westfall for a PBAOE Attack Power Down debuff.

(had to shorten because the reddit link had naughty words)
I see you had the same idea and I just missed it.
Death Flayer is level 11 and is the only scorpid pet with 1.6 attack speed. Others are 2.0. Notable since the poison is needed to protect your viper sting from being removed as easily by paladin and/or shaman.
Not of much use in PVE but you should grab one and stable it. Maybe level it once in a while just so it’s not a huge chore leveling it all the way to 60 at once.
You only have 3 stable slots in vanilla and have to buy 2 of them.
You need to keep one free as you level so you can tame other wild pets to advance your pet’s skills levels.
This is true. The first extra slot is 10 silver, the second one is 1 gold IIRC.
If you want a new pet type at any point, you need to raise it all over again before you can start training it’s skills as well. Even if it is the same level as you, you only get a training point per loyalty level per level.
Rebellious - 0
Unruly - 1
Submissive - 2
Dependable - 3
Faithful - 4
Best Friend - 5
So at level 60, you have 300 training points to work with.
Much easier to just keep a main pet in Stable 1, tame whatever you need to learn skills from, send it out to hit something a few times (until you learn the new ability) and abandon them before going back to your main pet.
It’s the turtle
That’s pretty much what I did. I leveled with my pve pet (boar).
Then at 60 I tamed a tiger in winter spring and that was my pvp pet.
With a 3rd slot one could have a dungeon/raid pet like wolf for the howl buff.
If you tame more than one pet early on you will be spending too much time trying to keep them both up to level.
There’s limited pets one can get at level 10 though.
I’ll post this here as reference for any new hunters.
This tells you which pet has which skill, which level pet has which level skill and where to go to tame it.
covers both alliance and horde
Very nice, much easier to read than the old TenTonHammer article:
http://www.tentonhammer.com/guides/wow-hunter-guide-pet-skill-list-page-1
Oh yeah…I re-found that hunter guide page and bookmarked it.
That is an original vanilla guide
No, they fixed the +2 level pet thing, now you can only train pets your level or below. Shame, you could rock stuff with a 62 pet
