I think there is room for nuance but I haven’t seen a single person even attempt to make any argument for balance; you just want to be angry.

It’s always about someone. In this case the someones asking for benthic gear to be nerfed are asking for a change to be made to gear I have a direct path to, so how is it not about me again?

The Benethic items that are so good they’re replacing Mythic raiding pieces are going to be nerfed. Benethic items were designed to be a catch-up mechanic for players with alts or who join the expansion late. You aren’t intended to net BiS items from them and the 5 ilvl penalty on them indicates that. You can moan or whine about the unfairness of Mythic raiders “dictating content”, but it’s not going to change the fact that the developers obviously never intended 1 week of WQs to net items superior to the hardest content in the game.

When catch up mechanics work at their best is when they are a bridge between tiers while not making the previous tier obsolete.

BoJ gear when introduced was a great step up but people would still need some Kara/Gruul pieces, hell even rogues in Sunwell gear still farmed Gruul hoping for a DST.

For whatever reason Blizzard has been following the negation path for a long time. As soon as a new content patch is released the lowest tier gear obtainable in the new content needs to be as good as the highest tier(more or less) than the previous content.

With Benthic gear it seems they’ve really doubled down on it. Like I was saying earlier, at what point do they just move to a Diablo type loot system and let all the loot drop from every activity all the time.

When I clear heroic/mythic this tier, I want loot to actually feel like a reward and a part of character progression.

I want gear progression too. My experience with raiding has shown me not all gear that drops from the current raid is the BIS for my spec. Sometimes it’s Mythic+ gear, sometimes it’s crafted gear, gear obtained from a quest or even a past raid. Benthic gear is just an additional method.

I love raiding, part of it is getting better gear, I also enjoying spending time with my friends and exploring new content and challenging fights.

I also love to min-max. If it means I need to find some gear outside of the current raid, that is fine with me.

Your statement was towards people looking at your gear and getting mad. When the real issue is why is a Benthic piece of gear better than a Mythic piece? One requires you to do World Quests and the other requires you to wipe on a boss +100 times. They shouldn’t even be in the same ballpark
