If the timer in Torghast is tuned so that it takes the average player’s time to complete a floor, then multiplies it by 30, then that (I’m sure) would be fine.
This isn’t applying soft pressure though, it’s applying no pressure. So it’s irrelevant.
So why do we need all these convoluted mechanics if clearing a floor is so easy, but they say people will camp in it for hours?
Statements during BfA beta made by developers stating that Azerite Armor would be fine on release, they weren’t. Also they absolutely have gone back on what they said, they said “not a timed mode” torments are soft enrages, soft enrages are timers.

I’m just trying to find a middle ground here. Earlier in this thread I’ve made some other suggestion; example
If they want a timer for people to push, how about a bonus loot timer. If you beat the timer you get bonus loot

There is no scenario where you absolutely have to go to the toilet within a matter of a minute or two.
If that’s a common occurrence for you then I’d suggest wearing adult diapers. 
It IS a timer, it’s not a HARD timer but it is still a timer nonetheless.

As you’re not measured based on your time.
Call it what you want but when there is a torment affix that slowly takes your life away and/or summons more monsters to attack you, that is a timer.

Is there a benefit to completing it quickly? If yes, it is a timer.
If people are trying to manipulate the word ‘timer’ so it doesn’t apply to Torghast that’s a pretty interesting exercise.

Everything in life is on a timer.
It’s a natural difficulty curve to help scale the Torghast tower.
Ask yourself why blizzard introduced this system? It’s because the tower is boring once you get going.
