Battle.net App Update Loop

add me to the list also. its been happening over the last week

Sadly still having this issue too, thankful it only takes a moment but pretty odd to say the least!

After reading all comments, I looked at which games were looping. I found Wow retail, wow ptr and wow burning crusade classic were all update looping. Basically after one updated the others would after running one of the others would do an update. After pausing ptr and classic, retail version stopped trying to update.

3rd day of looping

I have been having the same issue with Retail, Classic & BC. I can play once it ‘updates’ but it seems the second I close the game it tries to update again. This has been going on a few days now.

So this situation is happening for me, but not so intensely, but it was happening to a guild member to where he couldn’t log in.

I remoted into his PC and this was a workaround that I found after trying absolutely everything else:

I made a new folder on the desktop. I reinstalled WoW TBC into this folder - without uninstalling the original location again, just figured I would try this first. The game launched from this new folder no problem at all. Something about the default folder (Program Files(x86)) seems to be corrupted in some way. I then cautiously copied his addons over and we are waiting to see if maybe an addon update caused the corruption.

Hope this hopes someone else.

Since yesterday: WoW, WoW PTR, Classic and Classic PTR, have all been in a constant loop of updates to these 4 modes with no end in sight. Why the need for these continuous updates?

It is to drain your bandwidth.

They broke the wheel and the hamster ran away.

I came here to ask exactly about this.

They haven’t commented on the post in tech support (shock I know)

But a bunch of us have been having this issue recently.

It spends more time fetching indexes than the update itself.

To keep the game working? I mean, I like to complain too, but c’mon.

It’s not updating anything.

It just continuously loops update attempts for retail, PTR, and classic over and over at random times.

For me it’s every version of WoW that exists update every time I open Battlenet Starts and stops without really doing anything but fetching indices.

I have windows 10. Today it tried to update to windows 11. I never set this up, appears to have done this automatically and had to ask for a restart.

Idk much about computers but this seems weird to me.

Have got the same problem!

It is a shame that this is happening to multiple people including myself and Blizzard completely ignores the issue.

Getting tired of this crap. game does NOT need to update 10x a day or more this is just piss poor game management from Activision.
