Mine was updating all 3 games (live, classic, TBC) before. Now it just updates classic.
I’ve been totally unable to access any WoW games since Monday as the Update button has replaced the Launch button permanently. This issue has been going on for over a week! I am still paying for this game Blizzard, is there seriously nobody there who can fix this?
Anyone who wants a fix for this BT friend me at Kaldara#11970.
I’m not going to discuss it here, but I have pretty good idea what’s going on and there’s a relatively simple fix.
It’s not secret or anything - just the last time I brought it up a raft of naysayers down’d it.
I’ve not had a problem with this at all and I’m pretty sure I know why it’s happening and how to fix it.
Go to /World of Warcraft/_classic/interface/Addons
If you see a bunch of files starting with “RotationMaster” in there, delete them.
This fixed the update loop and Admin access issue for me, at least for Classic TBC. Retail didn’t have an issue.
A post was split to a new topic: Incompatible / Red Realms
Well, today I was forced into loading bnet and it updated normally and I’m able to login to the game, yay. But that doesn’t account for Blizzard’s lack of response here, this is trying times for Bliz and if you don’t support the people that ARE staying, who are you going to support?
Grrrrrrrr it came back I am not in loop again …Fix this mess Blizzard…
been going on too long. Think I will end my subscription . It’s been fun till now.
I haven’t been able to log in for a day now. Starting to think unsubbing might be the move.
They have read this and chose not to respond again I guess they removed my post mentioning all the free wow advertisements on YouTube about trying private wow…
I’ve also been having this issue since monday. It’s important to note that not only does wow constantly update every time I launch the launcher, but hearthstone as well. It may be anecdotal, but I noticed it only started happening to me after a windows update I installed sunday or monday night. Edit: running win10 and thankfully unlike some people in this thread I can get into the game after the minute it takes both games to update. just a minor inconvenience for me.
still happening to me on beta client, not sure why people are saying beta client fixes it, IT DOES NOT!
I uninstalled everything, and now cannot get it to re-install. It just “loops” forever! That’s as far as I am willing to go. Anything else is way above my head. I shouldn’t have to have a degree in computer science just to play a stupid game!!!
UPDATE: I FINALLY GOT IN!!!
Following the instructions posted for error code BLZBNTAGT000008FC.
BUT…I inadvertently re-installed WoW CLASSIC, which I apparently have NEVER played before! I started out with whatever was before Legion, which I thought was BCC. Told you, I’m NOT knowledgeable about this stuff at all! I had to create a brand new character, starting over at Level 1, which is fine, as long as I can find a way to get back into Shadowlands (totally different expansion, I know!) eventually, where my MAIN character is, along with several others.
Edit to add the instructions followed for Resetting the WMI Repository

The Blizzard Battle.net Desktop Application requires access to Windows Management Instrumentation to work correctly. If this has become corrupted or disabled, you can follow the steps below to reset it:
- Press Windows+Q and type this into the search bar that pops up:
- cmd
- Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
- Enter the following commands into the command prompt window one at a time. Press Enter after each command. Any time you get a confirmation prompt, confirm the prompt. One of the commands may also tell you the WMI service is already started. This is okay.
- net stop winmgmt
- winmgmt /resetrepository
- net start winmgmt
- Now, exit the command prompt and restart your computer, then retest running the Battle.net application
This worked for me, so far! Now off to see if Shadowlands has finished downloading/installing.
Edited one(?) last(?) time to add: Yes, I was also able to get Shadowlands to download/install and all is seemingly fine, although it seems to be “jumpy”, not as smooth as it was before. Hopefully that will resolve eventually.
This is still happening to me aswell… havent been able to get in to classic at all just recycles updates. Am on a mac.
Currently unable to play ANY WoW games, any version. I am stuck in a never ending loop of “all 900 versions of WoW need to be updated, but ALL of them must be updated before you can play any single one of them. Also, you can’t update a different game until the others are updated, but you can’t even initiate the first download because you need the others downloaded first. Also good luck uninstalling anything!”
It installed versions of the game I never even had before. I haven’t had PTR since Legion, but it installed it without my permission and now it won’t uninstall it. Also somehow reinstalled SL beta (which I did have and use before launch), and it wants to update even that.
I am trapped.
It keeps asking me to update the game everytime open launcher or am afk for a while after playing the game. I saw a message about this a few days ago and its not there anymore so I assumed it was fixed, but its not fixed. AT ALL.
I have fallen victim of the perpetual updating. Tried to use the repair tool because of huge fps drops that started last week, now its stuck in repairing. Tried to uninstall and also wont let me uptade the game before done with the repairs…
Am currently on day 6 of my endless loop voyage, here at big buy warcraft. I pass endless choices of other games, but hoping to get back to the one I like. But alas the repair keeps scanning and the updates keep updating. I fear it is too late for me now, tell my warcraft I love her.
I just solved the problem on my Mac using the following steps:
#1. Download & Install Battlenet.app over existing installation
#2. Download & Install WoW over existing installation
#3. Locate the Agent application in /Users/Shared/Battle.net folder and give it Full Disk Access in the security center
#4. Using GetInfo, reset the Everyone read-write settings on:
/Users/Shared/Battle.net
/Users/Shared/Blizzard
/Applications/World of Warcraft
toggle read-write off and then on and then apply to all enclosed items
#5 Start Battlenet app and let it update Wow & Launch it
The same process to reset the read-write permissions and elevate the level of the battlenet agent will work on Windows too
