Banned again for chat toxicity? Question

In November, I was suspended for the third time for ‘chat toxicity.’ The reason for the suspension was because I called my team ‘Weak bots’ during a PvP match. At this point, I feel uncomfortable using chat for any reason.

I would like to ask a GM what exactly qualifies as ‘chat toxicity,’ because technically, if someone speaks to me and I ignore them, would that also be considered toxic?

It feels like I’m in a lose-lose situation: if I use chat, I risk being penalized, but if I don’t use it, that might also be seen as toxic.

Masked language insulting intelligence calling people bots using f bombs are usualy what gets people.

Look If u cant say something without insulting someone maybe its time to rethink ur interactions.

So, in your opinion calling someone a bot should result in a 10-day suspension?

I’m competitive and a little trash talk should be allowed, or not?

Calling them a bot got you an account sanction. Insulting other players has never been okay to do.

The sanctions you’ve had before this one determined the 10-day suspension instead of a silence.

Penalties stack if its a 10 day suspension not ur first one and it doubles.

Trash talk is fine but depends on what ur saying.

I don’t understand. So, according to you, I can trash talk, but I’m not allowed to call anyone a ‘bot’?

If that’s the case, what am I supposed to call teammates who aren’t putting any effort into winning the battleground match?

No, ignoring is not considered a chat violation in any way. It is a great thing to do if you don’t want to hear from someone, or don’t have something constructive (and kind) to say.

You never have to type in game if you don’t want to. Ever.

What you can’t do is use profanity, masked profanity, slurs, hateful speech, name calling/insults and trolling, spam, advertising, discussing illegal things, intentionally picking fights/being disruptive (religion, politics, etc tend to do that).

The DURATION of your penalty is not based on the severity most of the time. It is based on how many past infractions are on your license. In this case, you are on your third penalty hence it is 10 days Suspension.

It CAN jump to straight perma closure if something is bad enough, but normally they don’t start that way.

You call them nothing. You bite your tongue and sit on your hands before you type something that can be reported. Scream it to your monitor if you must say something, but don’t give it a digital trail.

Too late this time, but your next account action will be roughly one month’s suspension or even account closure.

It takes more effort to be a bad person than to be a good person.

Or maybe instead of name calling just ignore them.

Literally just do not insult people.

How about not saying anything, it’s a game. I disagree with Darth’s assessment, Trash Talk is never fine, it’s a sign of poor sportsmanship.

No. You can’t talk trash. If you get reported for talking trash, you can get a ding against your account and those dings pile up.

What exactly is accomplished by that? Do you think they’re suddenly going to be inspired to magically become much better players? If you genuinely think someone is AFK or purposely losing/throwing the match/wintrading, there are report options for those things and then Blizzard can sort it out.

But zero percent of games have been won by people going “hey, I’m not a weak bot and I’m going to PROVE IT!” and turning things around, set to stirring music and a Horde flag waving in the background. You know that your comments aren’t going to help too, you’re just mad and you want to lash out at someone and make them feel bad.

Which they won’t, they’ll just report you. And then you get the penalty.

If you have to complain about your team to someone, do it verbally, to your cat (or dog). They won’t put you in a situation where you risk your account.

In my games there were 2 players, one kept insulting the team over and over and the other actually proposed plans that we listened to and worked out pretty well.

Near the end the first one who kept insulting the team said because they insulted us we started playing better paying absolutely no mind to the actual leader, not learning a thing from the experience.

It’s kinda a “the beating will continue until morale improves” mindset.

Thank you all for your comments. To my surprise, it seems I’m the only one who feels the rules are too strict. I’m starting to think it might be better for me to find a different game that lets me speak freely, or maybe just stick to solo content.

Almost every multiplayer game with a (free) chat portion has the same expectations and/or harsher rules.

Could work out to take a volunteer break in it. I see the last few years some very good indie games came out like Rimworld or Factorio.

Most won’t. There are plenty of other game companies that are even more strict too. Many game companies are taking a collective stance against toxicity.

If abusive speech is what you want, you might find yourself without a game to play.
There is a difference between wanting to speak freely, which you can in game, and wanting to be given a pass to insult others at will.

Your lack of desire to understand that being insulting is never acceptable is not a failing in the rules or them being too strict.

I wouldn’t say you’re the only one, but quite frankly, you’re on the wrong side here. Toxicity is not allowed. You can’t call them anything, no matter how justified you feel in doing so.

If you lose a BG, you lose a BG. Move on and try again in the next queue.

You’re not really going to find another game that allows you to abuse others. Many other companies were faster to start combating toxicity than Blizzard, and most of them are much harsher on it than Blizzard.

In this forum, you will not find opinions, only the official position of Blizzard. Because even the players helping here are functionally obligated to stick to Blizzard’s position on matters, including the rules.

If Blizzard thought their own rules were too strict, they would change them. They do not change them, so they do not think they are too strict. Q.E.D.

If you disagree, you want to submit feedback someplace where Blizzard’s opinion doesn’t control everything, like the General Discussion forum or the in-game feedback tool.

Because voicing your opinion here will never change anything. This is not a place for opinions.
