Ban RestedXP

Try reading what you posted. They are not selling an add-on, they are selling data. You can create your own leveling path for the add-on if you want. IDK who ever bothers to do that but it was originally designed that way, what they’re selling is a custom leveling path(s), which can be loaded INTO the addon. It’s a clever workaround yes but it doesn’t violate the ToS.

They’re not selling a “service” (at least not a live one) because they aren’t getting online and leveling for you etc., it’s just pre-recorded data that the addon can use. If I downloaded some add-on, then went out of my way to pay it’s developer to build me a specific configuration of it, it’s basically me paying him for programming knowledge.

If what they were selling physically modified the .exe file version in some way you would actually have a case, but they are cleverly building it in such a way that gets around this issue. I don’t even know why you care, if this were causing some type of degenerate game or community experience destroying BS (SUCH AS GDKP) then I would be on Blizzard about improving their legalistic terminology here to include the data / guide portion of the addon.

You understand that if they ban guides then suddenly places like Skill Capped and probably PvE equivalents are under fire? Anybody who creates some form of written guide or tries to sell you coaching is entering bannable territory. I think those things are mostly stupid but I’m not trying to control people at that level, it doesn’t directly affect the game in a degenerate way, and for some people maybe it motivates them to play more. At some point you have to prioritize the things that actually affect the game in a negative way over anything that veers remotely close to the edge of the ToS just “because”.

It’s just Blizzard’s policy on add-ons. They have to be free. Nothing insane about it.

The addons have to be free, not inputs. This is why you can pay someone to make you a custom weak aura.

Weak auras are add-ons.

There is an addon called Weak Aura sure, but weak auras are just code. You pay someone to write a line of code to do something and you input that code into the addon weak aura. I dont understand why this is so difficult to understand. There is a difference between an interface and an input. Would you seriously call a house address part of the app google maps or an input of it?

The addon is free.

Oh FFS. Just give it a rest dim bulb. You drone on more than an air conditioner. You are as bad as that other dim bulb who whines incessently about wrath servers.

The FIRST word of that entire sentence is what? “DEVELOPERS”. It’s not the developers of the addon doing it! Its a third party company doing it, who made a website with the same name as the addon. The ToS says the Developer can’t. It doesn’t say a thing about anyone else selling things for someone else’s addon. Weakaura does the same exact thing with their paid weakauras like Foji’s. The Developer of Weakaura isn’t selling anything, it’s a third party who created an import script for weakaura and sell it.

That seems like a technicality to get around it’s intended goal. I mean the first sentence is “All add-ons must be distributed free of charge” and doesn’t specify by whom. So even third party sellers shouldn’t be distributing an addon for a fee is how I read that.

addons are just code…

You understand that anyone who makes any kind of code is a developer, right? It’s a pretty broad term.

You are mistaking an interface with an input. See my Google Maps and address comparison.

Imagine a 332 topic thread about nothing.

If blizzard wanted it banned it would be banned.

Do you think blizzard needs you to link it’s TOS 200 times?

WAs are addons. You seem to be confused on what addons are defined as within the game. No, it is not just inputs…

It’s wild how people just keep ignoring the actual ToS straight from Blizzard themselves. What do you think “charge for services related to the addon” means?

The interface “weakaura” is an addon, the input strings of code are not. Without the interface the strings of code are useless. Is your personal address owned by google because someone puts it into google maps? At this point you are arguing to argue and have no real defined points.

Except they are using it in the context as the Creator of the add-on. You are grasping at straws at this point. Even if they were using it as a blanket statement, punishing the add-on and the creator of the add-on for something someone else is doing with said add-on wouldn’t be just. It would be the same concept as putting and entire gun company in prison because someone bought their firearm and committed a crime with it, or putting a car manufacturer in prison because someone bought their vehicle and killed someone while drunk driving.

Why do some of you complain about everything? it’s a 20 year old game lol

exploiting is fine
using an addon isn’t
ok

Different angle on similar reply to this: using this logic, simple macros are addons. The WoW client interprets the “code” the same way the WeakAuras addon interprets the parameters for a WA, which can be represented by an export/import string.

It’s wild that you still can’t get it through your thick skull that this is Blizzard’s game and they can approve or deny whatever they choose.

You just keep ignoring the part, straight from Blizzard, that says “charge for services related to the addon”…

You know addons are also just strings of code…

Someone is mad :skull:

I like how people just ignore the ToS and try to argue it like it doesn’t exist, even though it’s been linked numerous times in the thread…and directly states the service that RestedXP provides is against ToS :skull:
