This is how I view it. In my experience, I paid for Joanna’s Guide well before he had an addon. The reason I paid for it and didn’t try to pirate it is because I knew there’s no way anyone has the amount of time to provide that level information and details for free. It’s a tremendous amount of work, and I know if no one funded it, there’s no way it could get updated.
Once Joanna created the addon, I got it for free. I never paid anything after my first payment to them (before the addon), and I got what I paid for - the online guide, and the addon came later and I didn’t pay anything for that.
My guess is that Blizzard allows the loophole because they already know what a cluster-mess leveling in pre-Cata 1-60 zones is, and I’m guessing there’s a decent numbers of players who would have given up and stopped playing without a guide.
They approve the use of rested xp. Your debate is pointless. It is up to blizzard how they want to interpret and enforce their own rules. If they say rxp does not fit this criteria, then it does not fit the criteria.
You seem to care a lot since you are always on the forums
The topic isn’t “I want to buy RestedXP”…it’s “RestedXP clearly violates ToS and specific addon content creators shouldn’t get preferential treatment to violate ToS while others are prevented from doing the same thing”. If Blizz wants to really open that can of worms they need to change their addon ToS. Otherwise RestedXP needs to be banned.
It Doesn’t violate the ToS for the millionth time you have been told. Your opinion does not mean one ounce of tauren crap to blizzard on this matter. They stated it’s not aginst ToS. It has been explained 30 different times in this topic on why it doesn’t violate ToS.
You sitting here trying to argue with people that it is a violation of ToS is like a 5 year old trying to argue with the math teacher telling them 2+1 = 4.
He doesn’t, and he also doesn’t care. It’s been explained to him 30 different times and once it is made so blindingly obvious that it isn’t breaking the ToS he stopped conversing in that discussion and starts up again trying to bait someone else into arguing about his completely irrelevant and ignorant points.
This post just needs to be locked already, seriously.
Since you didn’t read the whole thread, and I don’t blame you, It doesn’t violate the ToS.
TLDR of the 350+ posts; The addon and the creator of the addon don’t sell anything. A third party creates guides and sells guides that can be uploaded into the addon. Since the Developer of the addon and the addon itself don’t sell or charge for anything it doesn’t violate their ToS. The creator of the addon is not the same entity that created a website to profit off the addon. Since the developer of the addon and the addon itself didn’t break any rules it can’t be punished for something a third party is doing. Blizzard would have to go after the third party, not the addon and it’s developer. That is why it stays.
The creator of the addon isn’t selling the packs. Its an entirely different group not affiliated what so ever with the addon, or the person who made the addon. They created a website, discord, copied the name, and sell things that can be imported into the addon. The addon and the Creator of the addon have absolutely nothing to do with the selling of services.
Same example was used previously. If a drunk driver kills someone in a car crash, do you now go after the car manufacturer for making the car? No, of course you don’t. So if someone took the addon and does bad things with the addon, do you go after the creator of the addon and remove his addon from the game? No, of course you don’t.
LOL the add on has links to their discord which has direct links to their site that sells the guides.
Took me all of 10 seconds to download the add on and go from it to the website selling guides. So yeah don’t give me some BS about the add on creator not being fully involved, this isn’t like weak auras and foji pakc.
If you don’t want to pay for the addon but know someone who does and you want to use it.
Open Interface\AddOns\RXPGuides\GuideLoader.lua
ctrl+ F, Search for the line that starts with:
local base = select
Replace the whole line with
local base = “battletag#1234” < Battletag of a someone you know who pays for rxp
/reload in game
Import
The amount of effort that goes into gaslighting here is pretty hilarious.
It violates the addon ToS as per the millionth time I’ve linked Blizzard clearly outlining it. You people just keep ignoring it then saying, “nuh uh, it doesn’t violate tos. there is a super clever loophole”…no…no there isn’t, Blizzard just doesn’t uniformily enforce their ToS, in this situation likely because someone on staff has a working relationship with the people selling RestedXP.
Someone who isn’t the Dev makes additional “content” for that addon
Their additonal “content” requires you to pay to access it.
Addon is still free.
The developer isn’t creating a premium version, someone else is piggybacking off of their addon and asking players to pay if they want access to their “additional content”.
This is why Blizzard isn’t doing anything regarding these addons, people with the knowledge are creating custom version of things which range from TSM profiles, weakauras, guides and even UI profiles. This is what you’re stuck on, it’s not the developer of the addon that are charging others for this it’s a third party who has no influence over what happens in the addon.
Take Fojji for example, his class weakauras used to be free, now he’s decided to lock it behind a paywall with his patreon. How would Blizzard even enforce that? Weak Aura in of itself is just a big editing addon, it can do nearly anything you want it to and could likely be the only addon you’d ever need if not for the potential lag it’d likely cause. How can Blizzard stop someone like Fojji or BillisOnyxia from selling their Weak Auras/Profiles other than to just outright ban the addon.
If you’re suggesting that the addon is at fault and that yes it should get banned then you’d just be shooting the messenger and not even bothering to read the message.
You seem so stuck on the money that you don’t read the fine print, the addon is free and they’re not selling a premium version, just because someone else is doesn’t mean that they are and that they should be punished because of it.
You’re so obstinate about the fact that you’re wrong, and I know you’re wrong because Blizzard doesn’t do anything. Do you really think that the money that RestedXP makes is enough to entice Blizzard employees into not taking action? Do you also think that there’s similar actions with Zygors and others who sell WA’s etc? Or do you just think that if they act on them that RXP would have to go too?
