You get to do it for you, I get to do it for me, but if you try to say I am wrong because I don’t take the same things into account the you do, tha tis when issues rise.
That is the crux of the matter:
Some only go by what is in game
Some Only go by what is in the supplemental material (novels, short stories, etc)
Some acknowledge one when wishing they would take notes from the other (I.E> I acknowledge the in game as official, but often wish they would take notes from the supplemental material)
Etc.
As such, I am a bit reluctant to say weather he is a good or bad character as much as he is a complicated one that no one really knows how to write in the best way possible.
I’d even add: Backbone + defending yourself from own side=divider and backbone+standing for what is right, when it is against your own side=traitor
Baine may not have stood up to Sylvanas, but who is to say he was not trying to keep the Horde united?
If any and all of Baine’s pro horde moments come from outside sorces (books) in my opinion that horrible.
If i need to buy something to see how he can and does stand up for the horde, i want to see it in game, whats the point of having him around?
Kill him off and pull a new guy or girl out of thin air and have them be leader. Let them have opinions and speak on them, and when we get Garrosh v3 have the tauren flip him the bird and dig in for a protracted siege.
Exactly!! Thank you, I’ve been saying this for YEARS. How are the Tauren cool with the Orcs when they are burning up and destroying forest’s too? If anything I would’ve thought the Tauren have a better relationship with the NE’s because both revere nature
I wouldn’t argue that any of those characters aren’t boring though.
Baine and Jaina actually mirror each other in many ways. Sympathetic to the enemy and weak.
While Thrall and Anduin mirror each other in many ways. Easy to wound and weak.
The only exception in this list being that Thrall wasn’t always a soft and weak person that would sell his people out on top of betraying his principles. Now he is. The rest have always been weak.
Yes but I also explained it seemed Baines character was to be the new “soul” of the Horde when Voljin passed but the Horde became a council & Thrall didn’t take back up the mantle of leadership, so what do they do with him now? Unless all this adversity Baine & Anduin are going thru is to somehow set them up to be the new leaders of their perspective factions
Right that’s why Tauren make up a large part of Cenarion Circle and other Druid groups that occupy forrests in Azeroth - Feralas? . Not to mention Tauren at first were the only race on the Horde side that could be Druids, like the NE was for the Alliance. But yeah what was I thinking, the Tauren don’t revere nature at all…the HM are even worse especially with their history and lore… Troll someone else weirdo
The only things I am willing to “delete” are anything that
Blizzard says is not official
are things like stories on fanfiction sites, that I know are not official
Maybe the better answer to your question of
Is Blizzard gets to decide over all, but we both get to determine how much weight each has for our views or if we determine if such makes him a “good” or “bad” character. For me, Baine is likely never going to be a “good” or “bad” character unless the writing for him improvers to be:
A) consistent
B) able to handle the nuance ones like him require
And even then, he might not ever be such, I really just want to see some consistence, like if something is only in a book or short story, call back to it in game if it is something that takes place in-between patches/expansions/etc.
I will note however, that my views are coming from one that is autistic, I don’t often, if ever, see 100% eye to eye with others, even other autistics.
Yet any time Baine does something contrary to your personal perception of him…we shouldnt hold it against him.
Thats just bad writers.
“yes, baine could have not done this horrible thing. but thats just bad writers. he did do it, canonically. but i wont hold it against him in me saying he cares about his people because thats just what a bad writer made him do”
Ever think that could be because my personal perception of him is one that can see beyond the way he was written and into the overall arc that might have made the wirters write themselves into a corner with him?
Let me put it this way, if someone was arguing he was a GOOD character, I could just be as likely to say “a Character can’t be good or bad, just well or poorly written”
My perception of Baine is nothing more then he has good and bad traits, it is just that different writers bring out one or the other more.
I feel like I have to ask this though, do you want me to hold the bad things he has done against him, and if so, why?
