Azure Waterstrider and my anger

It has nothing to do with the mount equipment. It’s has every thing to do with taking away a reward for grinding rep. And no I still don’t have my reward. I farmed for a mount that had innate water walking, not just a ground mount. which is all it is.

The biggest problem is, what reputation reward is next. Drakes form BC? Every expansion and every patch Blizzard rams reputation grinding down our throats, we grind reputation and earn the reward at the end and they take it away. What mount will be deemed to ugly, used too much, or used wrong and be taken away? What Reputation reward is next? Why should I ever buy any rep item again, if it’s just going to be yanked at any time. Riddler’s Mind-worm is about as ugly as a mount can get, is it going to be taken next becsue it’s too ugly?

People that have actual, physical or psychological anger over the change (not removal) of a perk they spent, say, 30 hours grinding out five or six years ago, have psychological and/or anger issues that should be dealt with more appropriately than going volcanic on the WoW forums.

You’re assigning too much weight or substance to those hours you spent back in 2012 or whatever. People spend time doing things in life, and rewards aren’t always permanent.

I’ve spent real life money and time on projects that just don’t apply to life anymore. They’re useless. Do I sit there and find a forum for these hobbies so I can “vent my anger?”

Erm, no. I realize that while working on the hobbies however many years ago, I had fun. I enjoyed myself and the time I spent on these hobbies. It doesn’t matter that the product of these hobbies serves no purpose in the real world anymore, though it may have ten, twenty, thirty years ago.

It’s a glaring thorn in the side of the community; too many people focus on the ends rather than the means. You should have fun earning things in this game - if you don’t, perhaps you are playing the wrong game. Getting a shiny such-and-such as a reward doesn’t mean much if you have to go through mental torture to get it. Torture so bad you demand it not be forgotten nearly ten years down the road.

Needlessly worrying about the future is another psychological issue. Most people refer to this as “anxiety.” If you’re just shooting the breeze, then yeah I hear ya. But if you are really spending time brooding over these things, and worrying about them, then my original sentiments on this topic completely apply. It’s an inappropriate behavior for a healthy mind.

I get where you’re coming from, and to a certain extent, I agree with you.

However, when we look at it from the perspective of what we might call “customer relations,” it’s a really poor move on Blizzard’s part. They designed a
mount to have innate water walking, delineated a path to acquiring that mount, then granted it once we did those things. And now? They’ve decided that’s “too OP” or whatever, so they take it away.

From this point forward, if there are any “special ability” items that require a grind? I’m not going to do them. They’ve lost my trust.

The smart thing, from a business perspective, would have been to leave the innate water walking alone, and exempt the mount from equipment – similar to what they did with the herbing golem, the brutosaur, the transmog yak, all the underwater mounts, etc.

A little good will on Blizzard’s part would have gone a long way here.

Did the company that made the item just come in at take it or did the usefulness just fade because of, well, life moves on. Water strider was not useless, if it was and it had no use what so ever I would not be upset at all, why, because life moves on.

If I bought something or made something and it usefulness fades over time, I expect that to happen, but it was my choice for that to happen, not the company that made the product. If i go out and buy a product and the company comes along and says, the doors on it are not needed so we are taking them back, Sure I bought something with doors but I really don’t need them to make the product work. company then decides they will mail you one door, but you can buy the other 40 for $50 dollars each. It’s not like I worked and paid for it once, it was taken away, and sold back to me. I still have what the doors came on, just put that one door you got back on it and be happy.

Actually, there is a mount that can be used at level 1.

Also, I wasn’t saying that it was an issue, I was stating how the system works.

I think the biggest gain here was you can chose to use water walking on all your mounts if you wish, allowing for a wider variety of looks, instead of having the one mount out at all times.

I thought vendor mounts did benefit from water walking, the list of mounts, which I can’t seem to find now, was rather small to my recollection, but everything indicates that vendor mounts could benefit from equipment. I’ll have to test that later I guess.

the only thing I hate about this is I had the option of water walking and flower picking. Now I do not…If I could customize what actually got what benefit this would be fine. Otherwise its actually a pretty massive downgrade but meh. I dont play enough anymore to really get upset over it.

You’re correct – I shouldn’t post when I haven’t had my second cup of coffee.

So, yeah, take the vendor mounts out of my post. I still feel the same way, though.

I never had one mount out at all times, though. When I had to cross water, I got my strider out, crossed the water, then swapped back.

Now, though? I use the strider at all times, out of protest.

First: not free. Cheap.
Second: I’d rather pay more than have to haul my little green backside TO and ACROSS Pandaria to get another.
Third: we can only carry ‘ONE’ at a time, they’re unique.
Fourth: “ANY MOUNT”? Sounds like you think this is a ‘per mount’ feature. It is not. Your choice affects ALL regular ground mounts.

It’s not something you swap out for convenience, you set it and you leave it alone, or pay 5k-50k or a 10 minute trip to southern Pandiaria any time you want to switch it.

It’s either “All Water Walking ALL the time on All regular mounts” or “No water walking any of the time on any mounts”.

And because mounts are for speed, and speed equipment is available… unless you’re spending more than 10% of all your mounted time ON WATER there’s no point using water walking equipment.

For now, however, since it is now a consumable and a BFA consumable at that, at any point it can easily be removed, and most people will not notice until they can’t walk on water.

Consumables come and go as the developers see fit. I wanted the strider to retain it’s special passive because I know that at some point, that specific piece of mount equipment will be removed.

I am also sure that the majority of players will put on one piece of mount equipment and forget about the system. So the system may be completely eliminated in the future due to lack of use.

Every xpac I enjoy exploring the world from the oceans via my strider. It is how I relax because it is interesting, peaceful, and what I find fun. I will be disappointed when that goes away, because one day it will.

Same!

So you’d be fine if blizzard reset all your alts to level 1, let you keep your stuff (not that you can use anything with level requirements for a while), and gave you a couple of wow-tokens that you can use for a boost or two, other services or sell for gold?

Because, in a way, that’s what this feels like. Like something was taken without our permission and replaced with something sorta nice, but spoiled because of the crappy way Blizzard implemented this change.

This still makes no sense. You didn’t have to have it out at all times. Just like you don’t need to have the tundra mammoth out all of the time. Or the Yak. Or the Sky Golem. Or the 5 million gold mount.

Exactly. With a little no-daze protection from tank/gear/talents, you end up losing the water walking buff pretty often anyway… and often have to remount to cross water.

[Summon Random Favorite Mount] worked great. Simply stand in water, remount and it’d prioritize picking a water strider if you had one favorited.

Once across I’d stay on the strider ONLY as long as it took to find the next ore node, plant, chest, or WQ, which was usually not long at all.

Right. Because a horse, a motorcycle, a corehound, a saber all make sense walking on water. Way more sense than the water strider, whose inherent ability is to walk on water. Someone else’s desire to use/see a different mount walking on the water overrides my ability to keep, for free and without use of some piece of equipment to give back the trait that the mount was actually made for, my water strider as it was prior to Tuesday when it was working as intended. The Sky Golem kept its ability to let you gather while mounted. The transmog mount kept its ability to transmog your gear. The vendor mount still allows you to sell items and repair your gear. The two and three-seater mounts still carry two and three people. The autioneer mount still allows you access to the aution house. All things that make ZERO SENSE but still exist when the one mount that actually MADE SENSE in its utility is “evolved” to no longer have that ability because people didn’t want to use the mount that was made to water walk to walk on water? Ridiculous.

It’s a stupid change. A stupid and petty change. The equipment does NOT function the same way and they know it. If people want cloud serpent mounts, they should go farm for them. If they want the sky golem, go make one or buy one.

Same with the water strider. Same with old titles and Glory mounts.

What a stupid idiotic change.

Maybe there is another point pushing OP’s button…and others.

People say, ‘just slot in the water walking ability and it’s all back to normal’.

But the fact is, by using the water walking item on the strider…you lose the option to place a different item on the strider. (thus the people who had a water strider pre 8.2 are in fact losing a functionality that others are gaining for their land mounts)

there is a portal that leads you to CoT now…

But hey keep spreading lies.

what is that odd thunderbluff portal in dazara’lor? Also silvermoon leads to UC… that portal is in dazara’lor also

one day blizzard will ban people who spread lies to fit their narrative.

Just going to add one final note about the whole every mount is special now thing Blizz is doing.

Remember when Blizzard listened to the players and made every hunter pet do every roll?

How many expansions did that last before Blizzard decided it was breaking ‘class fantasy’ and stripped hunters of their favorite pets doing what they wanted?

Oh can I port to Dazara’lor from org with my alts? Or do they have to be 110+?
