Azure Waterstrider and my anger

They broke striders for the same reason they time-gate flying every expansion: they’re too cheap, lazy and/or stupid, to create zones that account for these abilities in their design.

"It’ll be so much easier if we put water and (ha) slippery slopes in the way of where they want to go, so that they have to go through more trash mobs which will slow them down and make all the work we did on quests last a few hours longer.

Because we know most of them will blindly plow through it all as fast as possible to get to max level anyway, and then complain about not having anything to do."

Hi Jops,

I would LIKE to believe that this is the case, yet I am hearing, from numerous people, that this has not been their experience. A few, that I have spoken to, say they are regularly being dismounted and cannot even figure out why.

I guess time will tell as more and more people have the chance to see how this new version of water walking works out.

I d like to know one thing: why did sky golems keep their ability but water striders could not? Seems this is done purposefuly because the sky golems are used to farm herbs and that affects the economy but blizzard doesn t care, the water striders now will mean time spent in game will be increased AND people will have to fork gold to buy for new alts.

This is calculated design but it creates a precedent that now nothing can be trusted as a gain when grinding something. Scarab lord title may be removed, atiesh may lose its portal etc…

Blizzard is creating a precedent because unwillingness to keep earned rewards because would require one person to spend a week coding something like: { if mount is water strider then no equipment options available}

How hard is this?

/me pets Bessie the Brutosaur reassuringly.

“Don’t you listen to the mean elf, he just jealous, you pay him no mind. You’re a beauty and you know it.”

Honestly though, if they bring down the price of the MCB or let people get a different kind of auctioneer mount, I wouldn’t mind. Sure I put in 2 hard months of gold-focused playing to save up for one, but I had my 10 months of ‘exclusive bragging rights’ out of it.

It’s not like it has resale value to spoil.

But if they take away the auctioneer NPC on the mount at any point in the future? There will be rage, not from me, once my sub expires, I’m gone. But people who bought wowtokens to help them get enough to buy one? They will be out for blood.

It took me 5 minutes to get exalted during MoP timewalking a while ago. :sunglasses:

Probably one of those ‘undocumented changes’ added things like Salty Squirrel(1) and Mecha Mole(1) battle pets who like to bite passing riders.

People buying sky golems so they can herb more easily probably drives more than a few to buy a wowtoken to sell for gold. Which makes blizzard money, and is probably why that mount was left alone.

Wasted Timewarped badges honestly, considering as a Warlock you’ll almost certainly want [Light-Step Hoofplates] for your mount equpment instead of water walking.

But hey, congrats anyway.

Before patch my waterstrider had water walking. After patch it still has water walking. So nothing changed. Demon skin does a good good of preventing daze.

I know I’m scared to use my Spectral Tiger. Someone might get jealous and Blizz will take it away from me.

Something I have experienced the last couple of years that might explain this:

I have mousewheel up, down, with all modifiers on my action bar. I have stealth and quicksap on that keybind to get those very fast restealth-saps in pvp and easy to spam when wandering looking for other stealthies. So when they’re used, I autodismount. I often noticed that when mounted, and not even touching the mouse or keyboard, I will dismount and stealth. It happened in WoD, throughout legion when flying. Luckily I had gliders. This persisted on 3 separate mouses and 2 computers(with separate installations multiple times).

My point: See if they may the same type of bindings or if those are bound to something that may cause dismount. I don’t know why this game, and only this game, does this from time to time.

Just throwing that out there.

But it’s not like you lost access to any of that. So you can use the water walking on all of your mounts, then keep the rest in your bags like you did before.

I am still not seeing what you lost.

I guess I’m going to be contoversial here, but if they didn’t like the water strider being used so much, why didn’t they add the ability to other flying/hovering mounts?
/tinfoil hat/
I think they did this specifically so they could phase out water walking next expansion in an attempt to get rid of it without receiving such a negative backlash. And if it works for water walking, who’s to say flying doesn’t become a mount equipment at some point that then gets removed.
Stripping abilities off of items that was built in, just feels like a crappy thing to do and could lead to a slippery slope of all mounts just becoming a skin instead of having unique things like vendors or transmogs or AHs on them too.

Hi.

I bought them for my low level alts at the Anglers Warf in Krasarang, Pandaria.

My main is exalted with Anglers and best friends with Nat Pagle there, and the item cost 10 gold.

A lot of people posted here on the forums for a long time hating the water strider, and resenting that it was the only water walking option.

I think the change probably had to do with a lot of things.

We’ll just have to see and hopefully my tinfoil hat conspiracy theory isn’t correct.

Not sure how it took you just 5 minutes to get exalted with Anglers. Even if you had the points already to go for buying the rep tokens, you had to have taken the time required to run enough dungeons to get the amount of points you needed for said tokens. You may have been able to do it in much less of a time than those of us that actually ground for the rep during MoP, but you still spent time on it.

You received a mount and you are still keeping the mount. That wasn’t taken away from you. Needless to say, Blizzard over the years changed talents and abilities constantly- why should a mount ability be immune to changes? Its not acceptable that only 2 mounts out of almost 800 were able to walk on water- players wants OPTIONS, not be forced to grind outdated content for a chance to have a traveling advantage. Equip your FREE water boots, and voila- you still have a strider that walks on water.
