Auto ban needs to stop!

There aren’t even speed limits on the Autobahn (fixed that spelling for you) and you want stop signs or stop lights?

Do you realize what kind of chaos that would…

Oh. Wait.

Nevermind.

Squelch is automated based on many unique reports within a short period of time, pending GM review.

For the Americas the GM team is mostly at the Austin, TX office for Blizzard.

Yes, they are real people who have a crappy job handling tickets, reports, and appeals. Yes, they get paid, although if it is fair compensation is another question.

If someone gets a Silence, Suspension, or perma ban, a GM assigned it.

You can find tons of posts by Blizzard forum support agents on the CS forum if you want.

I’m not going to change my mind about this.

Ok, then don’t. You can think what you want. Blizzard has been pretty clear what is, and what is not, automated right now. See below - for CS forum link and discussion. It clarifies what is automated (squelch) and what is not (Silence, Suspension, etc.) Also yes, bot ban waves do use a detection algorithm.

False. The squelch system is not a ban. Bans are not automated.

False. Every suspension comes with a detailed explanation of why.

False. Although I can’t prove my assertion any more than you can, but human beings look at every suspension and they’re not easily swayed by “This use of pejorative language/swearing was all in fun, the ban is unwarranted.”

Agreed. And they have.

There is no Auto Ban policy or procedure to stop. Assuming something that doesn’t exist and then demanding it be stopped is specious.

Doesn’t happen outside of deep in to the Covid Crisis and reversed bans are (in my experience) very rare. Human beings have already looked at the case and deemed it ban-worthy. Bans only happen with repeat offenses. Any hope that “It was all in fun” or “It was an accident” or whatever are going to look pretty week if there is a long history of such speech and behavior.

And they had their bans reversed? Or this is just your opinion of the validity of their actions as bannable. Not asking for specifics (forbidden to discuss the specifics of disciplinary actions in the forums), but if Blizzard didn’t reverse the bans and apologize (they always do so in those very, very rare situations where they’ve banned someone improperly or taken any action that’s later reversed), this didn’t happen.

This is exactly how it works now. A GM has to impose a suspension. Bots don’t do it. Bots are limited to squelching based on community reports.

There are no auto suspensions happening now. Again, you’re assuming something that doesn’t exist and warning that it needs to be protested by the community. Specious.

There’s only one automated system, and it’s the Squelch. It has its problems, yes. However, I do see the “good” side to it which is to refrain gold spammers from spamming the public chat channels, when GMS can’t get to it, in a fast enough pace.

I do wish there was a better way to handle gold spammers 'cause we do have people being Squelched when (IMO) don’t really deserve it, but I don’t have any other solutions. The Squelch is the best deterrence, for now. Unless you have a better idea which a slow manual process is not really effective.

They are with the exception of the Squelch.

It’s not about “changing your mind”. Just handing out correct information.

That’s funny. This hasn’t happened with anyone in my guild/raid community. At all.

X to doubt.

Most ppl are narcissistic and lame as a whole.

Would you expect anything less?

Instead of spending your time being a jerk, why don’t you waddle over to the CS forums where someone with blue text will tell you that it isn’t, in fact, automated.

Or you can stay here and look dumb. Your call.

The squelch system really needs thrown out the window, OR at least modified so it ONLY affects public chat channels and nothing else.

Automatically nerfing someone’s mailbox and LFG experiences, along with private chatting, is a weeeeeee bit draconian and places way too much power in a mob’s hands.

Those wouldn’t be terrible changes.

It’s all so bad.

The auto crap - The GMs - some are cool, most are not.

the ppl on the forums who are lame but magically get so many likes.

It’s all lame.

How Not to Get Banned
a lesson, by Anna* the UnBanned
*see title for credentials

  1. Don’t argue in public chat channels
  2. Don’t be a jerk in public chat channels
  3. Don’t participate in stupid memery in public chat channels

let’s see have I left anything out

don’t talk politics
don’t talk religion
( goes back to: don’t be a jerk)

I mean honestly just keep your social type conversations out of public chat channels. those people aren’t your friends and don’t care about whatever edgy or cute bits of “wisdom” you have to drop on them.

ps. no such things as automated bans. if you actually get banned, a GM approved it.

I’m not being a jerk. You’re attacking me. You are the jerk in this equation.

You’re literally stomping your feet and getting angry people are telling you how the system works.

I am literally not stomping my feet or getting angry. I am not even near that close to being that invested in this topic.

I just don’t think other customers know as much about this as you think you do, but you speak as though you work for the company.

But we are not blues! So, when given a Blue statement quote, and info to go to the CS forum to confirm that if they want, they don’t.

It is easier I suppose to come to their own conclusion and just pretend that is the answer so they can keep claiming a level of automation that does not exist.

Because I’m regurgitating information the blues have given us dozens of times. These comments of yours about people offering information “don’t work for the company” and comments about “I’m not going to believe that” don’t lend you much credit to not being mad. I don’t need to work for McDonald’s to tell you how to make a Big Mac.
