Squelches were always automatic after so many reports from players. Just like flagging a post here so many times gets it hidden.
After that, it goes to the GMs to decide further sanctions or if they just leave the squelch.
If people would just stop saying dumb stuff, this wouldn’t be an issue. Turn off trade chat, stop raging at people in pugs and PvP. Lives will greatly improve.

No I like the autobahn.
No speed limit, just open German road.

A lot of people are apparently incapable of basic self-moderation. Then they get stung and run to the forums to make threads like this.

Objection hearsay and speculation.

Who’s the arbiter(s) of what is and isn’t dumb?
If someone is dropping N-bombs or other racial or derogatory slurs, then yes, the very vast majority of people will report that person.
That doesn’t negate the fact there are malicious people in this game (and on this forum no less) who can and do coordinate mass reporting for people or topics they don’t like.
The system is easily abused and there is no denying that.

The GMs when they review what happened.
Then you get to petition it.
And people mass reporting just to mass report do get sanctioned when it’s discovered.

Blizzard. Was that a real question?

We’re not talking about the GM review part and nor is that the topic of OP’s thread and you know that.
You’re not going to convince anyone that the current system is fine when so many people for so long now keep bringing up its flaws and how easily it’s abused. You people keep arguing “you can just appeal it later when a GM reviews” while players have to wait unable to use functions in the game because they are squelched for it to takes days up to a week sometimes to get a real person to review.

You’re leaving out the next step in the process because you can’t form an argument against it?
You asked about the arbiters. I told you the information. The squelch isn’t the only thing that happens in the reporting process.
I’d like for you to point out to me where the words “the system is fine” were written by me.
This forum is roughly one percent of the playerbase. And we don’t see many threads about this.
Then perhaps they need to rethink their communication skills in game. If they’re getting reported enough to be squelched for days, it means they’ve had previous violations. So this isn’t something new to them. Which means they know what behavior is triggering others in some way. That can be fixed.
In the rare instance where someone is mad or crazy enough to mass report for no reason, there are ways to report it. And also figure out why said person is targeting the other.
No system is foolproof. But the good outweighs the bad.

“If people would stop saying dumb stuff this wouldn’t be an issue”.
Get out of your echo chamber and go to other social media platforms and talk to people in different circles to get a variety of other opinions and angles on the issue.
You’re just trolling at this point for the sake of it and being purposely disingenuous.
You know perfectly well that you could type in chat you prefer puppies over kittens and people could have you squelched for that…And I know you know of the people here that do that so please don’t even try to deny of the malicious people on this forum that participate in that behavior.
Ah yes, just like someone else here a while ago who argued that all men accused of rape should be automatically put in jail and it doesn’t matter if some innocent ones get locked up in the process because the guilty ones would get caught anyway.
Absolute crazy insane logic.

Nowhere in there did I say that the system was fine. I’m not even sure how you managed to assume such a thing from that sentence.
This isn’t an echo chamber and no thanks. Twitter and Reddit are cesspools of hostile and toxic people.
Nothing I said was trolling nor disingenuous. You disliking a viewpoint and logical reasoning doesn’t make what I said either of the things you mentioned.
The reality of this happening is extremely low and would be overturned. Let’s at least stick to arguments within the realm of possibility.
How would I know what anyone here does in game? This is a forum. Not in game trade chat, which has always been a cesspool.
This is probably the most nonsensical comparison I’ve seen all week and so utterly ridiculous I don’t even have words for it.
I think you need to take a step back and rethink your conversation here. Because thus far, you’ve simply tossed out insults, misinterpreted things, used illogical examples and now compared apples to shoes.
If you’re unhappy, then come up with a better system to present to Blizzard. Let’s see what you can create that’s foolproof, quick and efficient.

OP,
What were they banned for?
I think every one of these threads should be required to be moved to Customer Support, and CMs there post a run-down of what actually happened. And then have a link to that post stickied on GD.
Would cut down on these “I din do nuthin’!” posts drastically.

Actually, last I heard (back in the 80s) the speed limit was “Drive according to weather conditions.” Which is why they had a150 car pile-up due to fog with no injuries!
Every once in a while a “I was banned for NO REASON” person will wander onto the CS forums and kick around and make a big scene until the blues help them remember what it was exactly that they did wrong.
It’s pretty glorious, and never goes the way the OP thought it would.
