Auction house changes, yay or nah?

Thank you for listening to our feedback! It does feel much better already. I can live with restrictions on cancelling auctions, but I couldn’t handle the throttling we had yesterday. I hope this satisfies the concerns you had on your end; feels like a good compromise if it does.

The behavior IS the problem, though.

Maybe the issue is that there are more people doing it now, but that’s probably due to impending Longboi scarcity.

Personally, I don’t believe that the issue is exactly what they say it is. “Server load” is generic and unchallengeable devspeak, which is probably why it’s the stated justification for the change.

What “bug” did they introduce that you think they are trying to fix?

Under cutting twice per day for 300-500 times (only higher tier transmog) is still bloody rough. There are work arounds with making smaller tsm groups but it’s super stupid that it is needed to be done that way in the first place. If blizz is really worried about constant undercutting limit it to like 5 times per item per day

It is unacceptable that you sprung this on everyone. Your significantly relaxed throttle is still a throttle.
I’m still upset you wasted so many people’s time. Do you care about the average player?

It clearly isn’t. It was fine for 10+ years.

Then driving this behavior by time gating mounts is again a mistake of their own creation.

The one that somehow caused inordinate lag due to cancel/reposting which again WAS FINE for > 10 years.

If anyone complains at this point that their AH game has been diminished, they are part of the problem.

Throttled cancel scan fixes a lot.

Yeah, that’s why I quit using the AH several expansions ago in the first place.

I thought with TSM, maybe I could keep up. It doesn’t seem like that’ll be the case, though - even with the change they made, it doesn’t seem to be slowing the 24/7 cancelbot down much.

Looks like they made a change that made a lot of people mad and didn’t fix the underlying issue. shrug

I just want to say thank you. I feel as this is a much better balance than the original hotfix and will help curb some of the AH camping that has gotten rampant in the last couple of weeks.

Thank you for listening to player feedback and acting on it!

If the person is botting, then it’s a whole different issue. Throttling isn’t the solution, Detecting the bot that the person is using is.

I don’t think it actually caused any lag; nobody noticed the AH being more or less laggy than it ever was.

I think they’re trying to modify behavior and justifying it poorly, instead of just stating that they want to modify behavior and address the root cause of it.

Maybe I’m off base here, but I doubt it.

Yeah, sounds about right. I hear being honest makes things go over a lot better.

Or not seeming they are just forcing us to change how we have played for 15 years

I’ll certainly agree that making a change of this magnitude, impacting behavior (however much I may dislike that behavior) as a hotfix with no advance warning or patch notes is probably the absolute worst way they could have handled it.

Policy changes should be transparent, and they should be stated well in advance. If people want to hate it, that’s fine, but they’re gonna EXTRA hate it if it comes about as a massive surprise.

Much agree.

For the record, I used “bot” in the colloquial term; I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an actual human being at the keyboard for most of the day doing it.

The point is, cancelling and reposting is still the best way to maximize profit, and as a casual AH user there is almost no point in my using the AH to sell enchants because I will never have more than a 120s window where my item is the one that gets bought.

out of interest, are you on a higher or lower pop server? I know on frostmourne, you normally can get sales even with constant undercutting as demand is still so high.

So this change is because after 15 years … blizzard arbitrarily got tired of the behavior?

I doubt it.

That would be a great job! May I put you down as a reference?

Decent compromise between not punishing people who go out and farm and cutting down on cancel scanning.

Turalyon (Horde) currently, which I think is classified as medium-pop. When I was playing the AH heavily in WoD, I want to say I was on Mal’Ganis (Horde), but it’s been awhile so that might be incorrect.

I do know that both then and now, I definitely didn’t get any sort of sales volume at all unless I was attempting to compete in the undercutting game (which I was still slow at, since I was doing it manually with Auctionator).

Granted, I was mostly playing in Enchanting, which has comically low deposit costs, so it’s possible I’m unwittingly playing the AH undercut game on the hardest difficulty possible :stuck_out_tongue:
