Your titles and mounts are still locked behind percentages, not rating. PvP participation has been at it’s highest when gear doesn’t have rating requirements. It’s an absurd hill for Blizz to die on.
You can’t justify keeping your job if you leave the game alone and sit around all day doing nothing.
Did they nerf melee? Or did they give an opportunity for sick players to stand out amongst the rest for accomplishing something in a MMO?
Can you justify it if all the changes are negative, though?
I’m trying to find any change that benefited Enhancement and uh… there aren’t any. They’re all bad.
A lot of people, myself included to an extent, were excited for TBC just for that TBC arena experience as it were, because it was unique and completely unlike retail. So this is a pretty big yikes if you’re in that crowd of people.
idk what you mean, the stat difference between each piece of gear is INCREDIBLY small.

being behind one or two pieces of gear when the gap is that small definitely wont have an impact on your games.
theyre not as prestigious as they were back in vanilla because theres so many more people with them. im not sure how many scarab lords there were back in vanilla, but theres thousands of them now. and tens of thousands of HWL’s because of bracket stacking.
That sort of philosophy doesnt belong in TBC though. This design belongs in Retail. TBC is meant to be a fun game, and getting gear, even at a much slower rate than good players is part of the fun. Most the R14 players in Classic were dogsh!t pvpers. It doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed to wear the gear and have fun.
Yeah once again catering to ultra pvp sweaties that make up like 5% of the game’s population
Look at the game for the last 10 years.
Maybe they are doing this and adding a pvp token to the cash shop that boosts your rating by 100 for every $20 spent.
I’m talking about L70 → S1. This is the biggest jump. The S1 chest for Warriors has 46% more resilience than the L70 chest. It’s only 6, but that’s one piece, and it also has other stats as well.
It’s just a stupid change that doesn’t really benefit anyone.
I agree with everything you say. However I think they have taken notice that shadowlands has had the greatest influx in pvp boosting for gear. And at the moment, there is no WoW token for people to buy to get their arena rating…
how is that not TBC philosophy when the original arena system had rating requirements on gear? its literally the opposite of what you said. my philosophy is that gear should still have requirements on it, and the inflation we would get from the new system would make it easier to acquire.
the vanilla honor system was based on time played, not on a ladder system where the better player gets rewarded. literally anyone could get r14 just by putting in time. you cant get r1 by just sitting around all day. you have to actually be good to get it.
yeah itll be a bigger jump between honor gear and arena gear, but thats the same for every other expansion where they had a similar system like in wrath/cata/mop where you went from honor gear to arena gear. im not as concerned about the gap between that because its a one time thing, not something that repeats every season.
“Purchase and equip”.
This is absolutely ridiculous. You should be able to wear EVERY piece of gear you acquire. I can understand the profession specific stuff, but you earned your pvp gear. If you take a break for a few weeks you should not lose the ability to put it back on.
Here’s a hot take: Since these changes promote goldbuying, this is the killswitch Blizzard finally needed to sell us wow tokens
The comical part about the rating increase is dumb crap like stunherald will still be super easy to get farming vortexes from trash in ssc/tk. Not to mention 2050 rating requirement, while something I can still easily get, will be much harder than any PVE accomplishment up till Sunwell you know where they changed ratings in S4.
To stay faithful to the TBC they need to revert the rating changes or you’re going to have arena die in Season 1 instead of dying in Season 4.
If you have to maintain the rating to use that would be bad but the principle of adding rating to purchase items is good
does “purchase and equip” mean it gets disabled as if it were broken if you fall below that rating? or just that you wont be able to reequip it if you take it off? their wording on it is really bad. they need to clarify that. im leaning more towards the second option.
Such a stupid decision. Get to 2200, buy shoulders, lose next game. Can’t wear them. LOL what the actual f
also for people wondering, when they added ratings in season 3. your gear turns red and unusable when you dropped under the rating.
so you wont even be able to just get them and never unequip them, they just straight up became unusable.
