right? that’s why this:
is honestly pretty concerning. I don’t care about the 24th typo, typos happen. What’s alarming is that it sounds like they think the issue with A52 is much smaller and more recent than it is.

That isn’t true, they did one 4 or so years ago but people keep making characters on those servers so it serves no purpose anyway.
A job is to execute tasks correctly, measure twice cut once y’know?
Honestly it seems Area 52 needs to get players off the realm and move them to another realm…this down time isn’t new to this realm at all…its been happening for years now…problem is getting players to move only way I see many of them will move is if Blizzard offers up free transfer of a person complete account of all their toons they might have on Area 52 to a realm of their choice…
They allowed free transfers off in 2020 - people transfer off and other people make characters and you have the same problem.
Anyone complaining today probably was playing on that server in 2020 and didn’t move or they made characters on that server knowing there was an issue.
They offered free transfers off Area 52 sometime in 2012 or 2013 too. Since it’s an older server (opened at the start of TBC), it’s had several occasions where it’s been overpopulated. From what I know from people who are still there (including a friend who just came back after leaving in 2011), it definitely is. So it’s possible that free transfers will happen again.
Free transfers don’t happen often, but server overpopulation is definitely one reason where it would. I started on Stormrage in vanilla, took the free transfers to Area 52 when it opened in TBC (because Stormrage was also overpopulated), and then during MOP in 2012 or 2013, took the free transfers off to Turalyon where I still am today.
IMO the game is at its best on medium pop servers. Full servers are usually (nearly) unplayable. But this means that if they do open free transfers, people have to actually take them for the problem to go away. Rather than expecting that they will stay and “everyone else” is supposed to leave.
2020 didnt have cross realm almost everything. If you were on a low pop realm in 2020 you might as well have been playing a solo game in a lot of aspects. No part of the AH was merged between realms, there was also no cross faction to help within the realm. I personally went from a completely dead realm to a52 around that time (probably a year later), knowing that long queue times and lag could be an issue, but since i wasnt on the forums and wasnt constantly looking at a realm list i didnt know that a52 would be getting shut down every other day in a few years.
Free transfers don’t fix the problem - a lot of these people in this thread were playing in 2020 and they didn’t transfer off or they made characters on that server even after knowing there is problems.
The only way they would fix the problem is locking the server down, i.e. not allowing people to make characters on there and offering transfers off but they won’t do the former.
You might want to reread my first reply to you. There is a reason people didnt take the free transfers off or still made characters on this server, and it’s because what server you were on was MASSIVELY more important in 2020 than it is today. Entire guilds moved to a52 because it is the more popular server and so was easier to get raiders. Now you can do cross-realm, cross-faction guilds with cross-realm mythic week 1. If you wanted to make gold you absolutely could not be on a low pop realm because nothing would ever sell. If you wanted to be horde, you couldnt be on any server that is mainly alliance or vice versa. If all of your characters are on one server and they only offered a limited number of transfers (idk if they did), then you would be cutting your alts off from each other. None of those things are issues now.
Also, the server wasn’t being randomly shut down extra for most of dragonflight. It still had the usual high pop issues, but i would say that the free transfers in 2020 probably did buy some relief for the server for some time.
Yes: come back to Staghelm. Some of y’all should have never left.
As Area 52 players know, it took wowhead to post about it before you acknowledged it.
Area 52 players know the server has crashed four times in 8 days.
I would seriously suggest in not being ding dongs and solve problems before they get to wowhead.
Suffering from 1500 ms world ping rn in A52.
Nah you’re dumb, blizzard says you’re dumb, don’t be dumb.
You mean before they sold their souls to Kotick, yeah that was a black day in WoW’s history.
Wow did not know so many issues with this realm. I used to play on 52 a lot for years - I removed my final toon from there before DF though glad I did.
Someone on the maintenance team who is tasked with Area 52 kept forgetting to defrag and optimize the blade, leading to further complications due to age.
what time will it be down thursday and friday?
I’m obviously sorry for anyone affected by this…
But honestly, it really is a bit fascinating! How could it be just ONE server??! lol
Are all the other servers in clusters in official industrial buildings, with proper HVAC and maintenance … and A52 is in a broom closet in the basement of a Dollar General???
Like … seriously … how could just ONE SEVER be down?
Or is it just as simple as: that one server is prone to failure like any other mechanical device and … it’s just broken?
I’m honestly curious.
Just wanted to say it wasn’t a “new” issue. Since the season started, Area 52 been going down every night around 9pm EST on Tues/Wed - I raid on Wednesdays with a guild off server and I am only person who often can’t login to raid, and I am one of their healers.
It usually it fine for my Sun/Mon raids, but Tues/Wed Area 52 seems so popular it goes down every week
Any offers of free server transfers to less populated realms? Please?
