Are vet accounts supposed to bank XP now?

I logged onto a character after the free weekend wrapped up, only to find that my character was banking XP and would level up if I resubbed. I’m just wondering if this is a deliberate change to the game before I check to see if there’s some way to have the excess XP removed.

If you look carefully everything that a veteran account( accoutn with inactive subscription had acess to), guilds, communities , battlenet friends ingame whispers etc is disabled.

I cant tell if its a bug or if Blizzard converted all non active subscription accounts into Free Starter Edition accounts on purpose.

I would hope that its a actual bug.And no theres no way to remove the excess XP, the moment u ressub u gonna lvl up, unless blizzard gives u back the “veteran status”.

Banking experience when you hit cap to my knowledge , is working as expected.

That only applies to Starter edition accounts aka accounts that never subscribed as a bonus for when new people subscribe.

The veteran accounts arent supposed to bank xp since they were previously subscribed.
Usually people subscribe on accounts to gear up characters then let the subscription run out so they can use those characters for pvp without the problem of going above the battleground/arena bracket level limit.

I don’t think that baking XP is dependant an account type.

Up until the the Free Weekend it was indeed, that much i can guarantee you.

Theres even lvl 20 “veteran” communities in the game exactly because banking xp isnt/wasnt a thing for them (since they were subscribed and let the subscription ran out).

We were warned in a forum post.
Not to play remix toons while free weekend, so not to go above 20.
Since they had no way to stop ex.
I have turned off ex gain on all my Retail toons, so not to go over 20.
If you do not … When you sub. That toon can jump to 30 with the banked ex.

People are still confusing Starter Editions with Inactive Subscription accounts.

If you had a actual Starter Edition account you will bank xp and ofc the free weekend would lvl you up.

But if u had a Inactive Subscription account, nothing is supposed to happen.

The biggest diference is that a veteran account(account without a current active subcription) is supposed to be able to talk in the guild/communities they were in before the subscription ran out, unlike Starter edition accounts that cant do that.

Would like an official repose. is it bug or intended?
Do i have to go back to throw away twinks?

Implement a character roll back system btw. People loosing decade old characters because of your random free no warning gametime is borderline criminal.

I will post this here as well to make sure people understand what a veteran account is:

A “veteran account” was instituted in 6.1. It’s the “version” of starter accounts given to lapsed subscriptions rather than new players trying the game out. The differences include being able to join guilds, talk in communities, not banking xp, able to acess chromie time, etc.

I lost one two free weekends ago…
That is all it took for me to spend the 10 gold on the rest of my toons.

Being self aware is human…

anyone who tell you Veteran accounts do not exist is just wrong.
This whole free trial was only available to veteran accounts.
Real free to play accounts who never paid did not get it.

Term veteran account was instituted by blizzard themselves.
Clear difference is available RealID ingame chat, guild joining if you had character in that guild already. There was article about it but they might have nuked it.

Solution to this current issue might be to reactivate account properly and let it lapse as someone somewhere messed this up.

As described by Bashiok at the time:

We’ve always had this kind of weird limitation where if you’ve never played WoW we let you play as much as you want, albeit in a very restricted Starter Edition account. However, if you have ever had a subscription–but don’t currently have one–we don’t even let you log in. In 6.1 we’ll effectively revert lapsed accounts into a Starter Edition “mode”, with all of the same restrictions. The one difference being that your sub-level 20 characters will be able to join a guild if any of your other characters are still in that guild.

The label for this mode internally is “Veteran”, and those are the strings that were datamined, but it’s unlikely to be a term we use to any great degree externally. It will simply be the default state for accounts that don’t currently have an active subscription.

The last time I asked Vrakthris about it he said it was intended for true Starter accounts, not unsubbed ones, to bank XP.

Not sure if that is changed now or not.

To be clear, any account that no longer has game time, is limited by the same restrictions as starter accounts. I’m not aware of any additional or “veteran” status that provided an account with zero game time left, to have different restrictions.

These are the restrictions:

I wonder if this is what’s happening:

Like Meowder said veteran accounts is a actual thing theres even a ingame realID that can tell u if ur account is veteran , subscribed , or pure Starter so clearly the term was instituted by blizzard themselves even if the official article got nuked.

Wont post the ingame command coz idk if its even allowed though.

Every Blizzard article and post I’ve seen related to “veteran” account status says that they have all of the same restrictions as a starter account, the only difference being a “veteran” account can have it’s sub-level 20 characters join a guild that they already have a higher level character in.

All the other restrictions, including chat restrictions, should be in place for veteran accounts.

If anything besides joining a guild was working differently between veteran and starter accounts prior to the free weekend; that would be the bug; not how it’s behaving now.

There was a actual blue post in this here forum showing all diferences beetween the 2 types of accounts.(It was around 6.1 release that blizzard decided to give lapsed accounts some amenmities)
And due to that post people decided it was fun to create veteran accounts since u could use them to create lvl 20 pvp brackets without the risk of gaining/banking xp, being able to join guild that they already have a higher level character in and even join ingame communities (all in the J tab), being able to see our battlenet friends from the ingame friendlist, and none of that was bugs.

And while Blizzard doesnt want to recognize anymore that said accounts exist it doesnt change the fact that a ingame realID command to know if a account is specifically veteran or not exists.

And for that matter u literally cant acess the guild tab (J) even if ur character was there alongside a higher lvl before the free weekend , so its bugged regardless.

What post?

You keep claiming there is a post that says otherwise, but can’t provide anything. Meanwhile, there’s been quotes found and linked that say starter accounts and veteran accounts work the same other than guilds. If one can be found, so can the other.

Overall though, if you think it’s bugged, make a post in the Bug forum. Posting here will not change it’s current functionality, nor will you likely get a response as to it’s intended function beyond the related support articles already linked.
