Are Retail Players Toxic?

During DayZ mod, I found out more players were willing to work together when the game was new/harder to survive (partially because people hadn’t entirely utilized slow zombies in buildings).
When individuals found tools to grasp military weapons easily did I see less cooperation.

I think when the game is designed where most players need other individuals for content due to difficulty that there is more cooperation.
In many ways, Blizzard has provided those military weapons (overpowering and convenience) that players don’t need other players in a community.

However, people have been toxic on both. You would need to do a study to get a percentage of the difference

Tldr Blizzard has done a good job of fostering this mentality.

There are definitely toxic people in Classic. I have 5 people on my ignore list and about 20-30 on my friends list

I’d say most of retails community is just anti-social. Which, is unfortunate, as WoW use to be an aid to people like that.

But changes to the game over the years made the game a place to hide in, rather than open up in.

And that is another reason why. I’m not strictly saying that people on Classic are all jerks.

What I am saying is that even the jerks that are on Classic are encouraged to play nice for the sake of character progression or risk being left in the dust. Both communities have their jerks

I’m simply at a loss, Classic started out so well, everyone was nice and excited wanting to just help each other and have fun…but now, everyone seems so toxic and angry, booting people from groups left and right, only inviting certain classes to dungeon groups, this is NOT a “vanilla like” experience, not anymore.

The problem that I see is everyone decided to focus on min/max, LFG is now spellcleave only, people get kicked from groups left and right for not being amazing, and why is over half the population warriors/mages/priests? Oh, because they watched streamers tell them those are the best classes, again, more min/max.

Why can’t people enjoy the game, help each other out and just play? What’s the point of min/max in this version of WoW? Raiding in Classic is a joke, it’s crazy easy and the point of Classic is community and the world itself above all else. Classic currently has a more toxic community than retail, that’s bad and it seems to only be getting worse and if it continues, it will die.

Are retail players always this mean? Are classic players just nicer?

On Retail I am a toxic healer that always yells at my group for standing in the fire and is constantly berating people.

When I log on to Classic I am super nice and friendly and everybody loves me.

I won’t say there are more toxic players, I’ll say they’re held less accountable in the long haul

They can be toxic, leave, and que up again with no adverse effects. Retail is far more convenient so with that comes impatience knowing that you could easily find about group with a few simple clicks of a mouse

I think they still exist in classic, they’re just more hesitant. Forming groups takes longer so their toxic behavior may cost them a lot of time, and if they do it enough they will get excluded when their name gets around

You don’t need to group. If you tag it, it basically automatically gives everyone the loot. Granted, groups are better if you aren’t next to each other and need to kill X number of mobs.

I’ll always form a group if asked.
