Are Retail Players Toxic?

There are nice players and rude players in both Retail and Classic.

Mainly because a lot of the same players play both games.

Personally, it’s been a long time since I ran into a really rude player in the game at all.

Pitting Live vs. Classic yet again is just unnecessary. The internet is full of jerks and trolls. It happens everywhere. Some servers have better reputations than others, and different people flock to different areas in the game.

This thread feels kind of pointless.

Toxic people abound all over the internet.

WoW’s biggest problem (IMO) as far as toxicity is concerned is that I noticed wow players tend to be fairly impatient compared to some other mmos and games ive played. The only reason I would say it’s “less so” in classic is that it’s more inconvenient to be openly toxic while in retail it’s easier to do with no personal consequences. Though I’ve met plenty in classic as well.

That all being said. I’ve met really fun and cool people plenty. Sadly the rude ones tend to stand out more.

I’m not sure the answer you’re looking for but I can tell you the GO GO GO mentality in retail has somehow made it’s way to classic. Simply trying to do ZF the other night I ran into a priest that demanded we do AoE pulls.

Wiped twice because of it. Real shame people can’t just have a smooth/easy run, always has to be something more.

So toxic, I’m slipping under.

Well, some of the ones replying that caused you to say that could also be playing Classic and they aren’t rude there because they know better.

Granted the ability to blacklist someone did help control the jerks and the “welp they’ll never see me again” mentality does make it seem as though it’s all retail.

But if you read the forum back before Classic was approved when everyone was making threads wanting classic you’d know a lot of those posting were playing retail.

Which means…you can’t blame it entirely on retail and certainly not on Classic.

There is a difference because in Classic you need other players to progress.
It’s almost impossible to do some escort quests solo. Or that cave collecting mushrooms where if you sneeze you die. In retail you can solo just about anything.

That’s one of things missing in retail. There’s no need for grouping for most of the content, except for rares and world bosses.

You don’t like retail, stay on Classic. I play both. If I get tired of dying every 5 secs, I go play retail.

  1. people not wanting to group with you doesn’t make them rude.

  2. that item? dropped for the priest. it was his. There is no rolling on items anymore.

stereotypes are fun.

eating all those cookies is not really that much healthy for ya grumbles…

Hmm, true but I don’t eat all that many. How do they stack up against your chili fries calorie wise?

There is no need/greed in retail. It’s all personal loot. this didn’t happen. You just came in here and claimed someone called you a very ugly name over something that did not happen.

Retail is a different ballgame socially because leveling is much faster. No one randomly groups because there is no need. Most people leveling in retail will be bewildered by someone opening trade to give them things without asking first because it’s a different social culture than in Classic.

Retail players aren’t mean. Classic players aren’t nicer. Most Classic players ARE Retail players.

And you totally lied. So…I’m kinda done with your troll post.

You don’t roll need on retail dungeon items anymore. Even if you mean typing slash roll in chat, trust me when I say you definitely don’t need anything from RFC as it’ll be replaced in a couple levels.

they have protein and dont have tons of sugar…

plus i chug water!

No and No. Two different games, two different mindsets… two different stages in marriage… one is honeymoon, the other is old-stage had enough of eachother but not wanting to leave each other.

The same people in different environments can behave in very different manners. That said, there is a large portion of the Classic player base who rolled because they wanted better interactions between players- and cooperation is more common in more difficult environments.

It’s dangerous to believe that either group is much different from the other, the environment is so different- and mostly made up of the same people.

As much as people might dislike it - Naz has WQs and rares that are…AN INSANE PAIN IN THE BUTT to solo if not outright impossible to do so, not just the world bosses.

I haven’t played Classic enough to meet the toxic people yet. But there are definitely nice people. Actually: so far in BFA I had 1 M+ run with the most toxic bananasboi ( a DH) who quit on us, once it was obvious we were not going to meet the timer (it was a +5, not worth their time I guess) but we were all so positive and nice to each other, we just persevered and finished the run.

I think the reason we see nicer players in Classic is because there’s more conversation in classic thats not in general or trade chat, sharding isnt a thing so if you build a bad rep with your server youre kinda screwed, communication in dungeons, raids, pvp is more of a thing. So i don’t think (or at least I would like to hope) it isn’t so much that the playerbase is toxic so much as you don’t have as much oppertunity to meet and chat with the nice people. The toxic ones will actively seek you out.

Lol. No they’re not.

Sure there are some that are doing both so don’t go all hyperbolic

Or maybe they are just generally nicer and don’t play retail because it’s not sociable
