I’ve been playing classic and leveled to 32, I’ve met players, chatted in the world, in /s and in general chat /1.
I got a little burnt out from classic exp grind after going hard for 12 hours a day for the last couple days because work scheduled me off due to overstaffing
I decided to fire up retail and create a new troll mage and one thing I’ve noticed about retail v classic is I played classic from level 1-32 and only had one situation where a rude player took my quest item while I was killing a mob, everyone was friendly in chat saying Thank you and emoting /salute and stuff
Then I started my mage and since I’ve quested from 1-40 in two days I’ve run into SO MANY RUDE players. I would ask for group and they would decline and say “you don’t need to group this is ez” or in one case where I needed an item from RFC and the priest I was with called me a slur for asking if I can roll need. Also I find that people just flat out ignore you when asking for help in a whisper or fail to say anything when you trade them water or cast my arcane intellect.
Are retail players always this mean? Are classic players just nicer?
Mod Edit: Removed inappropriate language.

I’ve encountered rude people and nice people on both sides. I’ve been working on my classic toon but … omg the running is killing me.

No. Not really. Classic players are forced to be nicer due to the very real threat of being blacklisted by the server when the reputation gets out that they are jerks. They arent nicer because they just are they wat, they are nicer because its simply a means to an end.
Retail players dont have to worry about a server wide blacklisting in PvE and PvP because they can join groups from people all around.

Aren’t there assassin rogues in classic too?

In retail there is no open world content that requires a group.
You may have better luck finding a social or leveling guild in retail.

Hey, if someone treats me nice because they’re hoping I don’t tell everyone in /2 that they’re butts, or because they’re just generally nice it’s all the same to me.
I’m still treated kindly by my fellow player either way.
Nothing but smiles.
I actually think Retail would benefit from having an open world and consequences/reputation. People would think twice before screwing others.

You don’t roll anymore with personal loot, friend. Not calling your story BS, but it smells of something.

This is going to be a good thread.

During DayZ mod, I found out more players were willing to work together when the game was new/harder to survive (partially because people hadn’t entirely utilized slow zombies in buildings).
When individuals found tools to grasp military weapons easily did I see less cooperation.
I think when the game is designed where most players need other individuals for content due to difficulty that there is more cooperation.
In many ways, Blizzard has provided those military weapons (overpowering and convenience) that players don’t need other players in a community.
However, people have been toxic on both. You would need to do a study to get a percentage of the difference
Tldr Blizzard has done a good job of fostering this mentality.
Used to be that way until cross realms etc happened. Was nice.

Good point. You actually can’t roll need. Hmmmmmm
The plot thickens

And I dont disagree with you, in fact I would rather have this than CRZ but being realistic I know CRZ getting removed wont happen as it “saves” dead servers.
But as it is now people have free reign to be complete and utter jerkwads because theres no reputation they have to worry about. Meanwhile with Classic even the jerks are forced to play nice or risk server wide consequences.

I’ve run into just as many nice and toxic people in both games.
Why do people feel the need to justify ever changing environments like this? Just play what you want and stop trying to make it one vs the other.

That’s exactly what the priest said haha. I used atlas loot and I wanted to know if I could have the time before we went in.
They are the same people!

Yes…but not all. But someone somewhere is always going to be a hozenrump in either version of the game.
I tried to group for one elite when BFA was new and got some smart mouthed responses. So I just soloed the stupid thing in front of them. took some time with my BM monk, but doable.
Just put them on ignore and you’ll never have to deal with them again.
Not all are! In any game out there you will find a mix bag of potato chips as far as personalities go!
As i understand classic from above posters and previous posts in the past… if your nasty to others you can end up getting left out.
Again - logic. Gotta stop it with this stuff it confuses ppl!
