its not fear , its time
While it sucks wasting hours running back to your corpse I canāt imagine myself enjoying a PvE server. It keeps me on my toes spending 20 minutes walking from Westlands to South Shore and feeling that panic when a group of Horde are heading towards me. Yesterday it took me god knows how long to get through Thousand Needles to reach shimmering flats. When I see other Alliance players out there I try to join party or at least stick close because it lowers your odds of being attacked. If I were playing on a PvE server I could have set auto-walk through Thousand Needles and went to the bathroom to reach the flats without worry.
Questing takes much longer on a PvP server but when youāre not worried about how long itāll take to make progress that extra time spent doesnāt matter, itās the experience. Thereās times when my side is outnumbered and I canāt finish a quest, then thereās times when we have the numbers and completely halt Horde players from making progress on their quests. PvP servers really shine when you ask for backup in /1 and people join the battle. But then thereās times Iāll be in Kalimdor at 4am and a /who only shows 4 other Alliance players in the zone while I pass by a blood thirsty Horde player at every turn. Thatās when I go somewhere else or mindlessly farm crafting mats
You set it to auto-run on Thousand Needles, you come back to a dead body because you auto ran into a hill or a wall and are now a corpse.
Itās not the fear of getting ganked though. Itās the sheer annoyance of it. If Iām trying to kill X mobs to complete my quest or gathering mats to level my professions, the last thing I want is some random player out of the blue hindering my progress by killing me and forcing a corpse run even once, much less multiple times.
Thatās why I never play on PVP servers. I prefer for my time playing on any given day to be productive, not wasted by other people. But to those of you who enjoy WPVP on PVP servers, more power to you.
Iāve played on PVP servers in the past, and frankly itās just not fun when youāre minding your own business and some jerk 20 levels higher than you kills you for no reason. On a PVE server if I want to PVP I can do battlegrounds. And thereās nothing saying you canāt get a group together and attack enemy towns/cities on PVE server as well, youāll no doubt attract people from the other side who will fight back. Iām just not big into PVP anyway, instances and raids are the reason I play, not PVP.
Iām on a pve server and itās great fun. I can only play every couple of weeks, due to work so being able to level up and farm without being hassled works well for me. I did the pvp server thing in retail, I have nothing to gain doing it all again.
Bad for me since Iām not a carebear but Iām sure itās good for people that donāt like vsing something that can think for itself.
Some people log on with a checklist of things to do and any inconvenience or spontaneous event is seen as a waste of time. Iām more of the camp of navigating the world as dangerous as it can be. And yes that means being ganked too. The unexpected aspect of it is fun to me, but I understand why itās irksome to others.
No they arenāt, we just donāt wanna deal with PVP and ganking.
I had my fill of getting killed by people way higher than me, on private servers. I knew there would be plenty of people rushing to 60 so they can get their āthrillā off ganking lowbies all day so I happily rolled PVE on classic and donāt regret it one bit.
And if history were to repeat itselfā¦ All of the PvP servers that are currently with a side that has more players, will become just glorified PvE servers, as people flee to the more balanced PvP servers, turning them into lopsided population servers, repeating the process.
The moment a server gets the āWe have the BEST WPVP!ā street cred, thatās the moment that serverās WPVP will become the worst, Haorumash hadā¦ (correct me if Iām wrong) hadā¦ okay WPVP, then total war started recruiting enmasse, annnd the whole scene there just crumbled due to everyone rolling horde to go join total war.
ā¦After that it was the RP-PVP realms, and then just look at Emerald Dream for that.
Because theyāre autistic.
Pve servers are actually not bad. People tend to believe pvp does not happen on them, which is not true. The big difference is the pvp is more planned events or people just wanted to pvp. On pvp servers you get the pvp whether you want it or not. Many quests are just about impossible on a pvp server without the opposite faction ganking you. Back in vanilla I enjoyed pve better, but this time I am going pvp and its been both fun and frustrating. I guess its all about what you want out of the game. If you enjoy questing go pve, if you enjoy pissing people off as they quest go pvp. Keep in mind you will pvp on all servers at times, but there is nothing like the pvp you get on a pvp server. I would suggest try both out and see what you like.
because they are carebear servers
I play both. In retail I have played on Dalaran, Lightbringer and Ravencrest for PvE. For PvP, I played on Darkspear, KT, Tich and Blackrock.
Generally, I have found people on PvE realms a lot nicer to play with. When I have been scammed in game, my worst experiences have been on PvP realms. PvP is fun, but the community tends to attract more toxic behavior in game. It happens in PvE, tooā¦ but I find it happens less often.
If I just want to quest and chillā¦ PvE all the way. You can always PvP in BGs and world PvP still happens on PvE realmsā¦ but only occasionally.
Not surprised to see this thread.
I simply prefer my PVP in another MMO, one that allows FFA.
I have played on a PvP server in the past but I definitely didnāt want to level at my own pace (slowly) on a hugely populated Classic server. I feel like the ganking is pretty constant.
PvE servers really are carebear servers, not even ripping on people who play there
Theres nothing wrong with it, but just be honest about it. Its a safer and less dynamic world. The other faction might as well not exist, while on a PvP server Iāve already got tons of Alliance on my hit list and i recognize tons of people because weāve fought. It adds more excitement to the grind and like yeah you can flag, but people rarely do for significant periods of time in my experience and back in the day when I was on a pve server, keeping your pvp flag on was a ādont fck with that guyā indicator to the other players more than anything
I played mostly pvp servers. I donāt enjoy killing other players just for fun. Iād rather be out running quests and working on my toon. So I end up feeling like a target for people who like that kind of gameplay. So, now Iām on a pve server.
It isnāt harder or easier. pvp, just means other people delay you on occasion.
I donāt understand why some ppl care so much about what server other ppl play on lol.
