I’m sure there are lots of reasons why people prefer the PVE side.
As I said… from a lore perspective, that’s about it.

IMO pve players never really learn to play their class properly. Fighting scripted mobs only when you are ready is a very lazy way of playing. I get that’s what some people want, to just chill out and unwind and that’s fine, but IMO it leaves a lot on the table.
You are really dense. Lots of quests are related to war and BGs also are pretty much wars. Are those just “lore” too?
Anyone who is horde and calls PvE players carebears or noobs have their opinion void and irrelevant.
You can’t speak when you’re the dominant faction and outnumber the other 5:1. These players couldn’t survive if it were reversed.
Ok, forget I said anything.
Talk about peering through a keyhole.
That is just a misconception. I’m on PvP now, but I played a PvE server back in Vanilla. People flagged often. We still had large battles at South Shore. We still had lots of world PvP, including city raids. When batllegroups became a thing in BGs, we had 2 PvP servers on our group. I had no problems completely wrecking PvP players.
Lol
Okay dude, warcraft isn’t about war, whatever you say.
It is a misconception. I’ve known PVP players who are so focused on that aspect that they (for a lack of a better word) blow at PVE. Not all tools in your toolbox are as useful for one aspect as they are the other.
Define “properly.” I’m guessing you mean “PVE players never really learn the PVP aspects of their class.” I’m not trying to build a strawman here, just my interpretation of what you must mean so please correct me if I’m wrong.
So:
Yes. If they don’t PVP there’s no need to learn how to PVP.
Why is it important that they do so?
Don’t listen to those idiots. I play on a PVE server. There is still a lot of larger scale world PVP going on in places like Hillsbrad. The only difference is you can quest in places like Redridge and Stranglethorn without getting ganked.
5v1 fights, level 60 versus level 25, corpse camping, things like that are the difference between PVP and PVE servers. That is not real PVP, it is ganking.
PVE servers are for those who want to play the game in peace, and PVP is still an option when they feel like it.
I’ve played on both. For RP, pve is fine. And you do develop pvp rivalries on rp-pve servers which is funtimes. But regular pve servers the game just breaks down. The economies are always worse, the raiding is worse, the organized pvp is just awful. The top guilds for both factions are usually players who have alts on other faction.
If you absolutely don’t like rp, then I guess pve would be okay to play on. But really the pve servers just lack a lot of experiences you’ll find on other types.
And also, don’t worry about having skill and playing on pvp servers. I know people who are clickers from vanilla to bfa who only play pvp servers. They wouldn’t want to touch pve ones too.

It’s still not the same when you can choose when to flag.
Why not? Some people only do PVP via BGs. You can choose when to do those.
Because if you don’t pvp you never learn the full extent of what your class is capable of. You have to be way more adaptable versus a human than the game’s AI. Also even if you do flag, you still chose to flag so you lose the unprepared element of pvp servers.
Opt in pvp is really not the same as open world
True. Man, on Silvermoon we had so many epic battles. The Classic SS vs TM, attacks at the BG portals, city raids. My guild hijacked the zeppelin a few times. Even though it was PvE it seemed like most people were flagged in STV… because… STV…
Plenty of PvP to be had on PvE servers. I think it’s just that people sometimes want to be able to just quest or fish, or whatever if they have limited game time.
I might switch back to PvE if my slow leveling pace becomes a problem. I just don’t have time to zerg my way to 60.
Oh wait. I still get lunches packed by my mother
I didn’t say it was “the same.” That’s kind of the point though. You tried to make a point that you don’t learn to properly play your class on a PvE server. That’s a ridiculous and false statement. Back in Vanilla I was on a PvE server that had world PvP daily. The only real difference is leveling, and you can farm in peace on PvE.
I don’t get it. If you’re not PVPing why is that important?
