Are PVE servers bad?

That is just your faulty opinion because you have no way at all to make any of that actually believable. The only missing ‘experience’ on PvE is dealing with the trolls who think one shotting greys is ‘PvP’

It’s always been this way. I myself have been on both sides of the fence.
Back in EQ, I played on Rallos Zek, which was absolutely brutal, then came to WoW and played PVP, and they are 2 totally different animals. EQ, for as old as it is, is probably STILL better balanced in terms of PVP than WoW ever will be.
Plus, now, with extremely limited time, I just get more enjoyment out of playing the game as it was meant to be played. Blizzard tossed PVP in as an afterthought, so it was never really properly rounded out.
Also, with PVP, you get to come across some of the very worst types of people that the internet has to offer. Not all mind you, but a very large portion.

That doesn’t really make it a war game (which to be honest is a term for stuff like The Operational Art of War or Steel Panthers or something similar)

Source? I’m curious.

I started Vanilla wow playing on a PvE server and there was PLENTY of world PvP, the only difference was, the PvP was between players that BOTH wanted to PvP. Not a group of 4 or 5 Horde running around killing single Alliance players. That’s not fun or sporting.

On a PvE server, the people who like to PvP would go mess with a city or quest hub to lure out the other faction’s PvPers and then the fun would start but would leave out the players who just wanted to focus on leveling or farming. It gave you the freedom to choose if you wanted to get killed over and over by someone or if you just wanted to relax and play for a bit.

For sure the stigma of a PvE server is there and some would say for good reason. Its a more casual experience for leveling. But it also allows you to have some EPIC PvP battles between players who want to battle it out.

So many people on PvP server find it fun to ruin other people’s gameplay experience by engaging in unfair/one sided PvP and hide behind the guise of “if its red its dead”.

I will pvp when I feel like it, not when someone else decides I should.

Because it will make you better in pve also

Same kind people who called African-Americans a bad word.

You acknowledge it’s not the same but then imply you get the same thing out of it

I’ve been on both sides as well and I picked PvE this time mostly because I have so little time to play than having to compete for quest objectives and resources with my own faction is enough of a hindrance. I always loved organic WPvP but having to corpse walk every few mins because a skull level dude is having his fun plus the queue times would render me unable to enjoy the few hours I have per day.

I’ll pvp when i want (when BG’s eventually come out) and level when i want, not when some skull level gnome warlock camping outside of lv level zones allows me to.

PvE is for manbabys

Yes they are bad, my opinion is the only one that matters, please lock the thread now.

Its true, when I was playing retail they told me i was the HERO CHAMPION, and i single handedly save/(d??) azeroth in the future, so i must be the best at Warcraft.

There are PVE and PVP (Dont forget RP, and my favorite, RPPVP) servers for a reason.

Play what you like.

Basically the difference is you can be ganked unwillingly on a PvP server. That doesn’t build skill. A 60 runs up and beats up on a level 40, nothing was learned except watch your back and plan an escape. You don’t actually get any skill from being one shot owned.

You’re implying that somehow people are more skilled on PvP servers. I’ve played both multiple times. I can tell you with absolute certainty that it’s not true. Some of the most skilled PvPers I’ve ever seen were PvE players.

As a long time player I feel that I have an educated statement on why people may or may not choose PVP servers.

If you are the type of player who always plays with others, and views your daily WoW as your social life, you will play on a PVP server and a lot of fun things can occur. Because you are in a group you prey on others, think you’re tough, and in your group it’s all fun and games.

If you are the type of player who often plays alone, PVP servers can be a tough pill to swallow. Because it really encourages more group play.

Those are the types of people who may choose to play on that server…

…then you have this type:

This is the type of player who most often defines how horrible the community is. He’s a younger player…over the age of 18, but he thinks he’s an actual adult. Like…he’s trying to talk down to people younger than him, not realizing that to many on here…he’s still a kid in our eyes.

There are other players, who when a lot higher level above you, run right by you. These are the good players. Because they know they can beat you, there isn’t a fight when a person who is 5+ levels higher than you are decides to fight you.

^^^ This type of player used to be who frequented PVP servers in Vanilla. They wouldn’t gank or camp, and if they did square off and beat you they would leave you alone. Often with a /salute or a /wave when done.

Sadly those players aren’t around much anymore, replaced by the younger d-bag type that I quoted above.
This is the type of a person who plays on PVP servers.

It absolutely does. It builds awareness and reaction. Planning out how to approach things and avoid being one shotted.

What in the world are you accomplishing in 15 minutes of game play in wow?

You are tired of pvp and took up hockey???

Why not just do mma for some nice quiet downtime.

Avoidance isn’t a skill. Anyone can learn to hide or run away. Situational awareness is something that’s often learned from just a single event.

If you’re level 40 and I show up in a tier 2 geared level 60 and just crit you to death, you have gained zero playing skill from that event.

This isn’t “learning to properly play your class” dude. It’s just more exciting.

Running halfway to tb from xroads.

The “Good” Players are still there, I experience mounted high level Horde run past me, even groups all the time.

Even in STV its been a pleasant leveling experience, with just the right amount of w-pvp clashes.

Depends on the server, and who is on at that time, it only takes one nasty rouge to ruin a whole zone.

Tips to not get ganked.

  1. zoom Waaaay out, set different camera settings you can click thru.

  2. the bottom keybind of camera settings is a “look behind”, bind it and use it.

  3. use your ears, when you hear a Whoosh, use your defenses
