Are Joke threads not allowed anymore on forums?

I mean, it was sort of funny but not really enough for me to care about it. But at least you weren’t banned for a month, so that’s a win.

can someone make one of those detective style charts that links together alts or something

why is wow forum lore so complicated

You can make joke threads if they’re about WoW.

We badly need btag on here.

Funny enough, the base of the joke was switching servers and messing with my key inputs, so it kinda was WoW related

All I’m hearing is, “I got called out on defending a known phobic person who uses LGBTQ+ to troll and create hostility, so I’ll act like I’m cool and nothing happened!”

Sorry, need to pull this in here in order to answer it.

As Pyri mentioned, they never really were permitted to begin with, but Moderation and Community Management in general would allow some through as they can be community building.

When all you have is joke or trolling threads, it defeats the purpose of the forums, which is discussion of the game.

Your thread specifically was worded like a technical issue that you were having playing the game. While I get it, this is probably not the best platform for it.

Reading many of your posts recently, a lot of your assumptions haven’t been entirely accurate.

We do work to address situations in which posters may be abusing the reporting system. However, there is a difference between folks reporting a thread that they feel doesn’t belong, and actually abusing the reporting system.

Using multiple characters or accounts to report a post? That is abuse and when it is found is dealt with. Collusion to report a post? That is also abuse, though harder to verify. Still, we do what we can to address those patterns.

Just because we don’t advertise what we do, doesn’t mean nothing was done. Yes, the thread was derailed, very quickly. Most of it was because the poster involved has a history in the community, which has been exacerbated over the years by others mimicking them.

The suggestions/feedback would normally be fine, but when we look at potential trolling, we also look at the level of participation of the person who posted it. Posting once and disappearing, colors the intention of the post. So, the thread wasn’t nuked, but it was locked.

We also went through the thread and addressed commentary that was highly inappropriate, toxic and otherwise violates our Code of Conduct.

It isn’t though. Regardless of what others may feel is the motivation behind their posts, threads should remain on topic. If you feel they are trolling or otherwise violating policy, report the post. Taking it upon yourself to derail or change the messaging about the post, calling others out, or accusing them of being alts/sockpuppeting, etc… complicates moderation.

Please just report if you feel something is amiss.

Don’t report if you just don’t want to see it or otherwise disagree with the post. Feedback/Suggestions, even on something that you may not want to see or you may feel are terrible ideas, is still usually valid.
