Are guilds allowed to sell guild invites?

I do think it’a gray area because often it’s more perks for joining someone’s patreon. For example, if automatic jack says “subscribe to my patreon and I’ll give you the ui folder I use”, is that really breaking a rule?

100% know what discord community you’re talking about - especially since the news on reddit a couple weeks back.

The general consensus is that its a potential grey area - but if you feel like it needs looking into email your concerns and all evidence to

hacks@blizzard.com

That email is more for than just hacks and is the correct place to voice your concern and any weird stuff you suspect going on.

Tbh, some community figures are selling UIs for Twitch/discord/patreon subs, what can you really do about it.

This has been asked on the CS forums - and I suspect its concerning the same community. Their suggestions is to report it to hacks@blizzard.com

These people are making real life currency through the use of Blizzard’s game. More importantly, not giving Blizzard a cut. Most definitely against the rules.

Not a good qualifier, seeing as how streamers exist.

If it was allowed, it seems to me the practice could be leveraged into real-money sales of anything with just a fig leaf of it being part of a guild activity/bank.

Why would anybody pay gold or cash to be in a guild lmao

Blizz lets streamers get away with some stuff (along with world first race guilds), I would assume it’s because they consider it free advertising/exposure. If this guild was charging in-game gold for membership, I would consider that ok. A direct payment outside of Blizz’s hands, for in game Blizz services is a no no.

You report them with links to the hacks email someone provided.

You cannot charge for am addon in wow. We haven’t heard one way or another if that applies to UI code too but can’t hurt to report.

There are two things I will never do to join a guild:

  1. Pay them ANYTHING
  2. Fill out an application

I am just fine chilling with my casual RP guild where people are friendly and we run content together.

you can sell for gold, not for fiat.

Personally, I never join the ones that send out macroed messages and automated guild invites or whisper low level folks while they’re out leveling (the more ill timed the whisper/macro, the less likely I’ll join like while fighting a mob or doing Q objective). Too pushy.

If this is the guild I’m thinking of:

The leadership are nothing but vultures that prey on the socially awkward and the anxious.

Their “justification” for charging a fee via Patreon is that space in the guild is limited and they allegedly prioritize supporters in their guild runs.

Very questionable, but will Blizzard do anything about it? Unlikely.

The worst are ones begging in whispers while sending the invites wanting players. “We’re new and recruiting, we swear we’ll be a big time raid guild.” The other annoying ones are those with High Achievement points that constantly spam invites out and scream we’re a good guild and need new blood, which tells me they were big at one point, fell out of playing and now are trying to come back again but aren’t having success with the current management of the guild cause the leader left and hasn’t returned and no one can claim the guild through the dethrone system.

For an invite to the guild, absolutely not because you’re selling an in game thing for real world money. Now if they want to have subs to something like patreon for discord access, then you’re getting into a gray area. But for game stuff like guilds, no they’re not allowed to do that.

I asked this same question in Customer Service (probably about the same guild).

Never got an answer from a Blue.

OMG . . . I think I just figured what guild this is…and worse, I had joined them last week.

Haven’t paid a dime, but I was already starting to think it wasn’t the … easiest situation to be in, but thought maybe it was own anxiety or being too impatient.

So yeah, you are right, they were looking to take advantage of my social anxiety and I’m glad I realized this now before I got more tempted to give any cash.

I was so sad when I couldn’t get in a group, and later learned they got as far as princess while I can regularly 7/8 heroic each week.

Sounds like endorsement of a loophole to me to be quite honest.

“We will give you access to X add-on if you subscribe to our RMT based guild” is a creative loophole, but obviously still a loophole imo.
