Are guilds allowed to sell guild invites?

There is a certain group that has been very beneficial to many players for a few years, however, this guild started selling invites to their guild for the price tags of $5, $10, or $20 a month. If you do not pay a monthly subscription to this guild you are not allowed in the guild. A player is still allowed to use their discord and play with their community, you just aren’t allowed to join their in game guild without buying your way in.

You did a good job hiding details; but is this a content creator’s discord where you get access when you subscribe to their patreon?

It is not a streamer/content creator guild. You do have to subscribe through patreon or you can’t join.

It might be a gray area. My recommendation would be to report it in-game or with an email to hacks@blizzard.com and let them sort out whether or not its allowed. You might also get a more clarifying answer in the Customer Support thread

Sounds like a grey area but I’d say it sounds stupid just don’t join.

I would laugh at anyone paying to be in a guild.

I think I know what community op is talking about. It’s a very active community and you don’t need to be in the guild to benefit from being a part of it.

Ok yeah, patreon is how I see so many guilds make people pay to join.

Now, Im guessing this guild also provides some kind of “service’”

So personally, I dont have too much issue because it’s more like you are paying for the service they provide rather than access to the guild.

I’m very curious what the benefits are to entice people to pay a monthly fee.

Do the members get X amount of free carries each month or something?

Some do, yes.

Others offer teaching services.

I petsonally paid to join one to download the ui, wa, and add-ons the content creator uses. Inside you can also interact with the content creator for tips and advice.

So yeah, it’s not really about joining the guild, rather it’s about accessing the services being provided.

Yeah, sounds like a loophole for a community with a Patreon alright. Sound advice with sending an email, though.

Paying real money for anything in game is explicitly against the rules.

Report them.

Yeah, I see. Since they are not allowed to charge for add-ons and such, they are trying to circumvent Blizzard’s policy by calling it a “guild membership fee”.

Questionable to say the least.

i don’t think they should be doing this, but it’s also not clear to me what anybody is gaining from paying.

This is against the rules.

As long as it isn’t in-game services, it’s fine. But paying for runs and stuff is considered against the terms.

Report it.

Selling in-game services for $ is an automatic no-no. Guild invite is a service.

It’s also shockingly dumb that anyone would pay for such a thing, which makes it a lil suspicious that it’s also a boosting community with extra steps so double whammy report it.
