Just spend some time opening TRP3s. I don’t RP, I just like to read. Some players come up with some cool stuff, so I’m more interested in that. Its a good way to pass time while I’m working, just afking in Stormwind and reading stuff. I appreciate the non-graphic ones.
We do, though?
I spend a good many days simply sitting/wandering Stormwind and reading TRPs in passing. I have so very rarely seen massive disuse of it to the degree you describe - at least, outside of Goldshire.
So I am really curious why you seem to believe otherwise, as it is certainly not the truth at all!
I have.
I have not seen many of those. To the point it’s pretty damn rare for me to see that.
I’m going to take a guess MAYBE around Mage Quarter as that’s where most of the shadier / interesting cases go, but even then - aside from scantily clad vampires or Man’ari… Surprisingly its been tame?
As someone who likes to hover in the air over the Mage District/Lion’s Pride dividing buildings fairly often… even there, it’s rather rare to see the sort of things they are describing. You get the occasional strange ones, of course - but it is not even a tenth of the TRPs regularly present/rotating in and out of that district, in my experience.
Go to the trade district and open some up. They are everywhere. I guess I just find them so delinquent maybe they stand out more. Telling me I’m making stuff up though, that just isn’t true. A lot of people use them for what amounts to cybering.
There’s the problem.
Trade District is not an RP district. Trade District is trade, and where a lot of OOC folks come in, and where most of the bleed-over comes in. Come over to Cathedral District, silly.
We got Scarlets to roast.
Hiya, I hang around there and can speak for it being rare there as well!
It kind of sounds like you just don’t like these addons and that is your opinion. But if you don’t like them? Don’t use them. Then you won’t have to worry about it!
EZ!
We all do, for varying reasons
We are saying you are confirmation biasing that it’s more than it actually is.
I don’t doubt people are misusing it, as I see them often too - especially around the entryway to the city (Trade District), as it’s where the Goldshire refuse and the less RP-inclined/‘meme’ players tend to congregate.
But on the whole, it is still a very small percentage of people in the actual roleplay areas of the city, who are misusing TRP to the degree you describe.
That is quite an assumption. Especially after I said I enjoy the effort people put into them when they’re not graphic or used to ERP. How I feel about the addon doesn’t matter though, if Microsoft wants Blizzard to eradicate it they will. All it takes are some people using something in a way that wasn’t intended to ruin it for the rest. That is just a fact of life about everything.
This.
I will agree folks do misuse it - though it IS their sub and addon to use. (Though by god Goldshire could use Jesus.)
You did assume that was a more widespread case than it really was, though. They did take a leap of faith, but I do apologize if your ‘RP experience’ was in the OOC District.
I have a character on the horde side of moonguard and it isn’t like that at all. In fact, I would stretch my neck out to say it’s much less prevalent than on the alliance side, since we don’t have an equivalent to goldshire and those types are too lazy to roll horde and then walk all the way to the forest.
You have your experiences and I have mine. There is no empirical evidence either way. What is a fact is how a large portion of MG uses these addons. And all it takes are those people to ruin it for the rest of you.
Addons are written in LUA and run client side with server-side API calls.
If data rate limit were ever an issue, some dev could simply write their own comms network using a non-Blizzard server as proxy, instead of using secret channels.
This whole topic is a non-issue.
I appreciate the input - I didn’t want to speak for Horde side Moon Guard, and could only wonder at the reasoning (given they are posting from a Horde character)! I don’t personally play Horde much at all, and all of mine are on Wyrmrest Accord.
And that’s… A bit poor, I find it a bit silly to say ‘ruined’ when…
Egh, not worth it. TLDR - sorry to hear you had bad experiences, but please do not say there’s too many when a lot of veterans can tell you with experience and tales, that isn’t as common as it seems.
Back on board with the OG post - back up your TRPs or put your character data on a sheet.
Wayfarer’s Rest. That is all.
I really hope we won’t have to start using carrds… I just escaped another MMO that relied on them. I really hate making carrds and thought I was free.
Carrds are for casuals. Embrace ‘just learn about me naturally’.
Is that so? I’ve never rolled belf so I had no idea. Thank you for teaching me, I won’t say we don’t have an equal anymore.
I do prefer most of a character’s history to be laid out via natural interaction - but insofar as ‘filtering’ RPers you may actively want to avoid, or giving others relevant hooks that could kick off fun interactions, carrds/TRPs are vastly preferable for many people.
