Thing is a lot of stuff re: weak auras and the boss fighting addons is that they’re pretty simple from what I gather - the only major issue is that this would mess with sharing Weak-Auras. Which is one issue in a sea of other things.
This change will mostly affect the middle players, not experts, but not really ‘casual’ either.
This sort of change sounds as if it would hit nearly every major addon in some way, which will make no one happy in the end. It is, unfortunately, just the roleplay addons which will feel this most quickly and most acutely.
I imagine if this does majorly affect other large addons, such as WeakAuras, DeadlyBossMods, and any other major addon which requires communication in a similar way as TRP3 does, we may at least see further outcry which Blizzard has a slightly better chance of listening to…
I would still play, but… I am a roleplayer at heart. I play on roleplay realms specifically because I like to roleplay, and I like the immersion that roleplay provides to a realm and world. Even when I myself am not actively writing, I am always reading ongoing roleplay or other player’s TRPs - or working on my own, as it is a never-ending process!
If the roleplay scene on WoW ever dies to such a degree, I would definitely not be playing quite as much as I do right now. I don’t quite know if I would keep playing it as my primary MMO or not, but I would certainly be doing less in-game when I am not in the mood for content… which would see me likely offline and playing other games, or perhaps spending more time in LotRO.
(I need to get better at replying to multiple people in one post, oopsie. )
I did some tests on the PTR, recorded songs that are not too complex still work but live play is totally broken. Same as sharing a song in-game, the transfer breaks after a few seconds.
However, with some tweaking it should be able to work again but complex songs that used to work fine until then won’t make it anymore.
I’d probably just switch to ffxiv full time if things break like this next Tuesday. I enjoy the rp aspects of this game more than anything else. Without it, I’d have no real reason to keep playing I think. Hoping this is all just some ptr bug nonsense.
Blizzard is really out of touch with the developer community as well as the roleplayer community. This change will affect tons of addons besides TRP3 like Musician, Details, Bagnon, sharing Weak-Aura strings, etc.
Bumping to say the exact same thing, this absolutely needs to be fixed or it will kill the functionality of RP addons in any area populated by more then a handful of people (which is most of them.)
This throttle is actually a pretty clever solution to severely dampen the coordination power of almost all the over-the-top raiding WAs that auto-assign jobs and positions mid-fight. It’s clever because it leaves comparatively harmless simple timers and addons to help better visualize parts of your rotation the way you want to, alone.
And before anyone gets upset, I fully agree the damage it does in a different situation like RP is completely unnecessary and hopefully mostly avoidable. I think a -fairly- good compromise is easy enough to reach, just have the throttle active in dungeons/raids/pvp instances, like other changes they’ve made in the past to distance radars, etc.
I also understand that RP will happen in raids/dungeons some too, so a bit further compromise is probably possible, where they could activate the throttle only for current content instances.
But yeah, the core idea for how to impede the worst offending auto-play combat addons while leaving the more innocent ones alone is pretty smart, it just needs to be smartly implemented as well.
RP is one of the few reasons I hang on to this game. If they ruin the ability to do that, well, there’s another game I suspect might see a lot of refugee traffic suddenly.
Are the managers of these dev teams unaware that this is a FANTASY game? Big hulking brutish men and their alluring counterparts are part of the fantasy, I don’t care what your RL preferences are. Fantasy is about idealistic appearances, both beautiful and horrid. This isn’t The Brady Bunch RPG.
This certainly explains the absolutely hideous draenei racial armor coming up.
Could this be because Blizzard is going to make their own RP type of interface? Like how they made their own type of questing aid in Cata, which diminished the need for addons like questie.
1.) It’s going to mess with more than just RP addons - i’m not familiar with all the details that go into developing addons, but this change on PTR is gonna mess with a lot in how someone has to design these things - anything that needs to like…ping something server side for information with be affected.
No one RP’s but I imagine people who do upkeep on addons are curious about how PTR’s affect these things. Someones bound to notice something.
