Blizzard has been nothing but hostile to RPers for basically a decade now.
no, you shouldnt have
oh no. the Cathedral is my favorite place to float in shadowform extolling the virtues of voiddom
just do what my monk does and get drunk while pretending to be a master of drunken style fighting, cause a scene and non gracefully faceplant on the floor of the remaining bar she isnt banned from⊠people will react to shenanigans
I want to believe that, but like, I donât see Bliz doing that. They mostly ignore the rp community
I am not sure what was being responded to, nor what was said, as the post seems to be deleted. Hopefully it was nothing bad!
no not for you, i was agreeing with you but the person had farther down the thread said my bad.
i had a few responses and wanted to consolidate them lol
God I hope not. They suck at integrating this kind of stuff.
The most disheartening thing is the fact that every time something negatively affects RP, the entire community has to stop what itâs doing to head to the forums to complain. Itâs like when Blizz shards the cities for an event and then conveniently forgets to undo it until we complain on 3 different forums and Twitter.
So, here we are again, having to make noise about how this will affect at least 2 servers just for TRP3 alone until someone notices.
I will mention that it was only a few expacs back that there was a discussion about the added value having an add-on community brings to WoW. It was perceived that it contributed to the popularity and longevity of the game, due to player retention and satisfaction. If Blizz starts removing functionality for popular add ons, especially ones like Details and Bagnon, itâll have a noticeable impact on player activity. It wonât just be 2 RP servers that will lose players to other games.
Bumping this again. TRP3 is legitimately one of the biggest reasons I tend to prefer WoW for RP over FFXIV. Hours and hours of my play time goes to writing new profiles and making new characters. Without TRP I wouldnât care nearly as much about exploring new character ideas and leveling alts, which accounts for 90% of my time on this game.
If this change goes live and isnât addressed, Blizz will lose players. They NEED to find another solution.
Iâm the same. I play both and while Iâm happy to RP in FFXIV with my close friends because we know each otherâs characters well enough that the lack of a profile doesnât matter, it still severely limits my ability to RP with random people.
Iâve had long talks about this, I firmly believe that a good chunk of the reason WoW RP is so prevalent is because of addons like TRP3 that make it feasible. The amount of customization allows us to simulate the same reactions we would normally get through first glances in real life. I can very easily show what my character looks like through both descriptions and art links, all without the interruption of leaving the game to look at a carrd or something - an interruption that ruins the flow. WoW customization is nowhere near prepared to make up for that lack (trust me, I play a male Void Elf and I struggle every day with the faces and hairstyles), I donât think any game truly is. Itâs because of TRP3 and addons like it that walk-up RP is really feasible in this game in a way Iâve yet to see another game match. I donât have to know your character in advance or rely on often insufficient customizations to set up a scene; we have our own glances and descriptions to show our shared world and our places in it.
Blizzard, please tell us this is a false alarm, something you were only doing for the tests and arenât bringing into live. Please.
The one type of addon I support, if that is true its sadâŠ
You are so spot on with this. Heck, if anything I feel addons in FFXIV actively detract from the health of the RP community, enabling such an extreme level of clientside customization that youâll sometimes look at a Carrd only to find the character in question doesnât even resemble what you see in game, so everyone expects you to get Mare. I really only RP with friends there, interacting with new people just feelsâŠweird, unlike here. In WoW being able to read glances for details like that is not only super fun to engage with when it comes to meeting new people, helping to break the ice and get people interacting with each other, but itâs also incredibly fun to write. I love how people donât even necessarily follow the formula implied by âglancesâ, theyâll add things like RP hooks. Itâs also a nice way, in my opinion, to share limits with who youâre willing to interact with.
I always struggle with customization on every MMO, lol. But WoW is definitely the worst. I actually couldnât bring myself to play a male VE for the reason you mentioned, and for fem VEs thereâs only one or two hairstyles that donât clip through everything. I mostly play draenei, and a lot of that time is spent being deeply envious of Lightforged customization (they actually have MORE than the parent race). Better hair and hornsâŠby far. They could just bundle these customizations up in one race, you would think, or just share them across the board.
And donât even get me started with the lack of height optionsâŠIâm so tired of using Small Feast + Winterfall Firewater to shave a few inches off my characterâs height.
Bit of a side tangent, but yeah I definitely agree with this. TRP communicates details that you just canât get with in-game visuals!
One of the important functions that TRP serves is being able to rename a character on the fly. You can have a character with a non-RP name like âGreendayâ and make him Samuel Green. Or if you need him to be a bad guy NPC for an RP, donât roll an alt - just use TRP to make a new profile and then get an appearance change. Now Samuel is Jack Chambers the Highwayman. Or you can have a couple of different alts with the same TRP name and profile. I have Alliance hunter Kirsy, Horde paladin Kirsy, MG and WrA Kirsy, etc.
I also donât want to go back to struggling to figure out who in Org is an RPer and who is just standing around waiting for a queue to pop. Walking up is going to be difficult when you donât know whoâs who.
Then letâs talk about keeping track of populations. I use the search function on TRP to look at various places to see where RP is happening before I decide where Iâm going for the evening. Is RP in SW? Is it in Duskwood? Where is the market event? How crowded is the tavern?
Keyboardturn blocked me on twitter cause I disagreed when she told me that Blood elves arenât getting blue eyes.
me now
unfortunate.
The RP community is the most important part of this game.
Good news!
An update!
Itâs been confirmed on another thread to be a bug, according to the community manager who posted theyâre working on fixing it now!
It seems that way yes. But all they said was that itâll be addressed in a future build. 10.2.7 is in 6 days and I highly doubt itâll be fixed by then. This means so many addons are going to be borked in the mean time which is truly disappointing.
Sweet. And everyone is in such a good mood in game now too. Todayâs gonna be awesome! That was scary for a second though.
2.) Who roleplays on Alpha/Beta/PTR?
No one, but RP addon devs do test their stuff on PTR to make sure nothing will break when the patch comes out, hence this topic.

If itâs a bug, and itâs affecting the addons that cutting edge Mythic raiders use, theyâll listen to them rabbling that a fix is top priority over listening to roleplayers.
