A “reflex save” of sorts wouldn’t be against RPG elements, but that isn’t what this is.
This is saying “After it hits 5 things, it can’t hit anything else now”.

Seems like a pretty big nerf to fun. Kind of like pressing Frenzied Regen felt a whole lot worse in BfA even though it was just one ability on a 1.5s GCD. In the span of the hours of my life, it meant nothing. In the span of “did I enjoy mashing this thing and watching it not fire off” it sucked.
Apparently dragging the game down into the mud is what “pro wow” players think is good.
Instead of asking better class design lets nerf everyone else. Brilliant!
Sorry that an arbitrary limit to a magic spell in a video game in a dungeon where 5 mobs 20 yards away stand there and watch you murder their friends breaks the “immersion” for you.
Coming off the heels of Battle for Abilities and the forced GCD changes…the devs think the AoE cap is necessary.
We are truly dealing with devs that have no respect for the legacy of WoW, RPG or even MMORPG princples.
AoE cap is explicitly communicating that they think that the way WoW has worked for so long is “wrong”. But all that time they collected that $$$ and balanced the game around all this.
So, now it is a a problem? They have a lot of explaining to do.
I wish I had that “Indian guy with the hands on his hips” meme.
Rogues: The AoE Cap BrEaKs the gAmE
Warriors: meme
Shamans: meme
Or they wanted to make a change to their game that they developed?
This is a fantasy game right? If I am standing next to a mob and I do zero damage with cleave or AoE then it is immersion breaking.
Trying to tell me otherwise is trying to tell me that up is down and down is up.
Meanwhile their friends standing 20 yards away just watch because you haven’t entered their “aggro range”. 1 yard closer though!!!
20 guys stand in a line. You try to cleave through them all, left to right. How far do you get? What’s the world record?
Hint: it’s not 20
Hitting 20 mobs with a single flick of the wrist is way more immersion breaking.
They are newcomers into a massive franchise built by more talented people.
Aside from occasional lightning in a bottle like Legion M+ the things they’ve added have generally not been well received.
Woah, Dog. Citation needed.
That they are new, or that their changes haven’t been well received? Because neither one seems debatable.
I’ll take either one, actually. If you can objectively prove either, I’ll recant.
Lmao, what about Frost mages? i cant begin to imagine how frustrating it will be to cast blizzard on 10 mobs only for none to die, just waiting until you see some damage ticks on one or the other and feeling anxious that your damage is being distributed but not on the notable mobs that you need to kill first, or another case, it kills the target you’re not trying to because it will become inconsistent and wont damage all, just some, and with rng on it.
One blizzard shard dropping at random 5 targets at the time is just ridiculous.
Actually cleave is one of the cases where it makes sense to be a multi-target ability and not a AoE.
You’re swinging at a few targets in front of you, not doing a whirlwind.
Are you for real? How many of the original WoW team is there?
I think they are also learning all the wrong lessons from classic WoW.
To me the disconnect is that they don’t understand why classes are more popular in classic than live retail.
For one, Rogues have more CC and finishers to work with as an example. Sap, Blind and Gogue are all important CC.
But the importance of that CC diminished after BC. And the AoE cap isn’t going to change that because the game has changed so much since then.
You are not going to see people asking for Rogues needed for CC for groups anymore. Not going to happen.
Legit…the M+ scene promotes fast game play and that will continue. Not sure why BlizZard thinks that this will change anything regarding M+. But the damage done to the rest of the game due to AoE cap is incalculable. But at this point we can test the PTR and beta and see for ourselves as it impacts all levels and all types of content for the most part people choose to participate in IMVHO.
Having them set the AOE cap to maximum 2 targets is a great announcement and change. Not sure why people are so upset.
I hope this is ironic
