I am also a GW2 player who’s been watching as Blizz has tried to borrow the successful GW2 flight systems. I have no problem with games taking the best features from one another, but Blizz (IMO) mucked this up. After playing in beta, I’ll stick with GW2.
I don’t enjoy Dragon Riding in WoW. I’m a little shocked that they have refused to also allow regular flying as an option, but given their ‘we know best and you’ll play our way’ philosophy, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
I’m also disappointed that so many people seem offended that some players don’t like or simply can’t use DR. Nobody who dislikes it owes anyone else an explanation, and honestly it’s got to be frustrating for those folks to be flooded with patronizing explanations about how to ‘fix’ their dislike.
ALL Blizz had to do was offer the option for either. The fact that they don’t is an indication they suspect their grand new system isn’t as appealing as they’d like. Yeah, lots of folks will enjoy it and more power to them! But failing to allow regular flight for those who don’t care for DR is really pretty crappy.
I agree with this. If you want to do dragon riding and you don’t have the motion sickness issue, great. But since this is a legit issue, have more accessible, compassionate options. Use regular flying.
Yeah there is a steppes dungeon with the centaur, where you can skip multiple trash mobs by flying or gliding whatever. It is required if your team has dragonriding you’re all flying or they’re waiting on you. Anticipate people being kicked for not having it. Just fair warning.
All they really need to do to fix this is remove the REQUIREMENT in the campaign for dragonriding. So people who would rather ground mount or use flight masters can just do that instead of having to learn a new mechanic.
Personally I think Dragon riding is alot of fun, and quite easy to learn. But I guess someone with severe motion sickness, or no hands/fingers might not be able to master it.

Except it is, as I have consistently pointed out to people who think it’s just a switch they can turn on and off. You can’t just force in regular flying without it directly undermining how dragon riding progression is designed in relation to exploration and traversal.
He literally called it an abomination of a feature. You having physical limitations doesn’t make it bad. Maybe you could make the argument that making it mandatory is bad. But, if you call a feature people love an “abomination,” be ready for some push back. Oh, and there’s the entire GW2 audience that loves the feature as well. So yeah, you’re wrong.
see you sound so stupid still. if ion hated flying he wouldn’t green light an expansion system devoted to flying… duh. you get more flying this way than u do with pathfinder. that whole ion line u run is you playing a victim card for no reason. it has nothing to do with people not using it. it has to do with the progression system and the design of the zones. why would they design all that jsut to give u a way to skip it all right off the bat. and if you havnt even bought df then how can you say squat comparing the two?

GW2 players didn’t have 18 years of time invested playing before having a feature forced on them that they didn’t like. anybody who doesn’t like the GW2 flying just didn’t play it—like I didn’t. it is WHY I didn’t play GW2. I can’t enjoy a game when I hate the control scheme
