When you get to the point. Spam fire and when low on aether spam ice, spam fire again when full aether.
I haven’t played black mage past 40 just yet.

I haven’t played but it seems more like the old school model for questing and RPG’s. Most likely you will not see anything like “go kill 30 of this and come back to see me”, so log on and enjoy the game.
Go to YouTube, look up tips for new FF14 players or even ask in game. Tons of helpful people around. Unless everyone’s playing the new content.
Eh, this isn’t exactly the case. You may have been lucky so far, but buckle up, buttercup, it gets that way pretty fast in random roulettes later. Wall-to-wall pulls are the norm.
Make a cat girl or a lalafel
Haha, I know I do room to room pulls in dungeons as a tank.
Poor new healers. I tend to slow things down if I can see that I can not keep going like that.
For real.
What would FF14 ppl do with out the WoW forums?
Heya! I think one of my biggest ‘flaws’ going into FFXIV was treating it like a rush to cap. I’m still super fresh to it but I have slowed down and I gotta say, if you treat it like an RPG but with dungeons/raids you’re in a good spot to enjoy the game.
The first 20 levels honestly felt dry but after 30 i have had an incredible time. Love both games now
Well, to be fair Square censors their forums. And its supposedly a really good game once you get past 50 (wait, that sounds familiar…) so maybe they really want you to know hey I’m cool I’m playing the actual popular game like me just like me.
And by “grossly low-balling,” you mean there are 725 Main Scenario Quests as of this date (MSQ quests are those you HAVE TO DO to unlock features and progress in the game and through the expacs). I have no idea how many side quests (that you don’t have to do, unless they unlock a trial or raid or some other feature, like riding a mount) there are, and I’m not gonna count 'em. LOL
I would say to pick a class you like the sound of and SKIP ALL THE SIDEQUESTS.
You’ll level up just fine with the Main Story Quests and a few dungeons spread in… So save those side quests for leveling up your other classes.
Notable Exceptions: The questline to unlock the aesthetician (barbershop), the chocobo mount quest, the chocobo fighting companion for world content (and spec it for healing).
Use the teleport feature often, it’s super cheap.
Crafting is very useful, but if you choose to skip it you can keep pace with a few dungeon runs.
I would recommend a DPS class to start with if your a solo player focusing on world content, but a healer or tank is, as usual, perfect for group content.
Black Mage is super easy and has some pretty overwhelming DPS potential, even early on. It might be a good pick coming from a WoW mage thematically as well.
As a first class I would recommend Summoner (arcanist) and the reason why is how the job system works. At level 30 you can play as a dps or healer, which opens up more options for you, and you can level them both together.
The single biggest advice I can give though, is to talk to people.
If you wave and /say hello, the odds are very good that they will talk back, and start a conversation with you. Everyone (most everyone) is super social and active. The culture is very new user friendly, and if anything you’ll be overwhelmed by too much advice and help being offered.
You’ll have a great time… and you’ll log in to have fun, not to do your chores.
I really wish there was a free weekend.
Okay this settles it. I’m going to buy the game. I tried SWTOR but I am still after 2 years burnt out on that game. I have almost every item in that game. 20 or so characters I leveled through nights of the eternal throne which is nuts. One of the biggest problems I had with it was the space station general chat is still political after all these years, it hasn’t stopped since June 2015. I think today is a perfect day to give final fantasy a shot.
Don’t overwhelm yourself by taking a bunch of different classes and professions once you’re free to join others.
Understand that the slower pace in the beginning was designed for people who’ve never played an MMORPG; as a vet, a lot of the opening stuff you can zoom through.
You can modify the absolute crap out of your HUD, dive in and experiment.
When you’re introduced to your first dungeon, talk to the sprout guy outside the entrance and do all of the role training feats that they offer. It’s simple, you get XP from it, and you get REALLY nice gear from it as well (stat and transmog-wise).
You don’t strike me as the type, but it has to be said…don’t name yourself anything dumb FFXIV has a dope naming system, with surnames and it allows apostrophes.
Have fun! Oh, and when you can go to the Gold Saucer…go! And get the Triple Triad card game.
Celebrate is a delight on these forums and I love them.
If you’re on a free trial you can use it. Feels bad man.
Black Mage is fun, just remember to swap between Primal Fire and Primal Ice as Fire is big DPS damage (but eats up mana) while swapping to Ice gives you passive mana regen and its good to swap to when you wanna add some debuffs or reposition during fights.
Oh and change your UI to match it more to WoW’s general set up of hotkeys and spells to make your life easier until you decide to swap it with something else.
If you look at black mage parses and black mage actions per minute, it’s a slow class where any mistakes basically tank your DPS (hence the low APM and high variance in parses). Easy to pick up, very hard to master.
Five Guys Burgers and Fries are better than both of those but Wendy’s is still better than Mc’Donald’s.
As a new final fantasy player stop shoving this game down people throats here.
