On that case, they are held in by that large bar that goes over the top, and that single screw should hold them in place.
Position them loosely in there, then use the bracket and secure them down with that one screw.

In the pic, it looks like the top two slots are filled by the new card and the bottom two slots are open. You should put the covers back on the bottom two. You have to open the computer and put them into place in the same position as the end of the new GPU.
Not so far fetched. I had a friend who kept having strange issues with his computer and I walked him through several fixes. Nothing worked and his issues were weirdly inconsistent. I kept telling him he had gremlins.
Finally, I went to visit him and decided to open up the computer and have a look. When I picked it up, a mouse jumped out of one of those slots! We cleaned out the nest, put the covers back on and no more gremlins!
True story …
So they don’t need to open the case up?
I tried like hell to get them back in there, maneuvering them into every position and order I could think of. Nothing took.
Thinking maybe I could just give it its own cloth covid-style mask or something and call it a day. After what I went through yesterday I don’t think I want to open it all the way back up again lmao.
they do to get the covers in there. need to remove the screw, the bar, replace plates, replace bar, replace screw
Ok, that makes more sense - in your previous post I thought you were saying they didn’t need to open it.

It should be pretty easy. Open the case and follow Sal’s instructions. If you need a visual aid, you can skip to 12:10 in this video and see how they sit in the slots:

Don’t underestimate my ability to screw the simplest things up. xD This is why I made the thread in the first place. I was tired of lagging all throughout WoW but I was terrified of trying to change it because I felt I was going to mess it all up somehow. Or as my dad said, “commit computer suicide”.
During that whole ordeal I was so nervous and on-edge, having no one around to really help me, especially when I broke that clip. I had a youtube video on which didn’t really help. I only hated the guy for clipping his stuff in easily whereas I was struggling like hell. I genuinely cursed myself and fell into depression fits throughout the entire thing, feeling like an utter failure at everything. It’s a miracle that I managed to get it in and get the computer back on afterward.
So believe me when I say that I am really reluctant to try to open it again, lols.
This was essentially me during the process.
Remember at the end of the day you got it done, mostly
It may have been nerve wracking but take what you’ve learned and pat yourself on the back.
Hindsight may prove that it wasn’t as frightening as you thought it was going to be.
So I’ve got an issue, was wondering if anyone would be able to provide insight. Since turning on my computer today it would automatically restart itself every so often. Doesn’t matter what I’m doing. It happened playing WoW, playing Terraria, and watching Youtube. Any ideas on how to fix that?
Possibly power supply - not providing enough power. But hesitant to say that’s the cause if it’s restarting in just chrome.
Could be cpu overheating. Maybe now that your gpu is more powerful, your cpu needs to work harder to catch up. But again see first response.
Can you install hwinfo64 and report CPU and GPU temperature while playing?
Could be a thermal issue, still.
But if the only thing that has changed is the GPU, it’s most likely some driver issue or power supply issue.
I had a little bit of a hard time understanding hwinfo64, but I noticed I already had CPUID HWMonitor which I’m hoping is just as good. xD
The Intel Core package is hovering around the 102-122 F ranges, while the video card is around 89-93 F. However this is with nothing going on but Google Chrome.
Edit: The core did shoot up a bit when I loaded Terraria. The card temp remained relatively unchanged.
Edit 2: I just opened the computer and gave it a second dusting, especially around that core area, just to be sure. Then I spent a couple hours on browser surfing and watching YT videos, and followed that with a hopeful loading of Terraria. I wasn’t in the game for 2 minutes before the computer restarted on me. This PC is currently not gaming-viable and I could definitely use some help now.
