He will be abomination, he won’t be either Vol’Jin or Rezan. I seriously dread this.
Not sure I quite follow. Rezan was cool, but its not as though he had much going for him beyond that rule. We also just saw a Wild God die permanently within the recent cinematic, so we know its perfectly possible for that to happen AND for them to transfer what remains of their being into something else. The idea that Vol’jin is becoming a new Loa is also pretty hype since it implies that “maybe” Blizz remembered Sen’jin’s prophecy for him. Since he was supposed to lead ALL of Troll kind (whats left of it) into a brighter future.
I’m wondering where he came from, or if he was always a loa.
In Shadows of the Horde, he says he’s been around longer than trolls have.
His character has become defined by this mistake and it’s an annoying memory.
Kind of like how people mostly seem to remember Thrall these days as the guy who put Garrosh in charge.
Rezan was walking embodiment of Zandalari’s traits. He was glorious. I fell in love with him immediately.
I feel that with recent changes they’re kicking off what was differenting Darkspears from Zandalari. And it’s also upsetting.
I’m also very against this artificial Vol’Jin ascension because it feels unearned. He died too soon and he did quite big mistakes. His achievements doesn’t really shine that big when compared to other mortals. He didn’t even do anything in attempt to unite troll tribes - he was vocally against it!
So it feels really off, unearned and that there so little thought put into it.

Yeah I pretty much feel the same way. I use to like Vol’jin a lot cause he was a laid back Darkspear and he stood up against Garrosh. But as time has went on I feel like Vol’jin didn’t actually do anything other than stand up against Garrosh - and that was after he was stabbed in the back mostly. He actively was against all the other Troll tribes and put the Horde before Troll unity, like in Cataclysm when the Zandalaris planned to unite the tribes and revive the empires Vol’jin actively fought against it.
Edit: I guess he did reclaim the Echo Isles.
I could understand him being against Gurubashi if they tried to bring Hakkar back (which is dangerous to everyone) overall resentment of Darkspears against the STV tribes.
But Amani? They just wanted their lands back. Farraki were raided for shiny loots. And Drakkari were backstabbed when they were fighting back the scourge.
Surely there had to be a way to unite with trolls but in other way as Zul wanted.
The problem is Vol’Jin didn’t care for other tribes.
He cared for Darkspears and the Horde.
So whats up again with his sudden “For all the tribes!”?
Yes I want for the tribes to unite, and be recognised as important political power. But this isn’t done right.
You get a mount? That counts?
Just to point out, the “Standing against Troll Unity” was essentially just the Zandalari using the Amani and Gurubashi as cannon fodder to try reclaim the glory days. Y’know, the same damned thing that every single troll tribe has been pushing themselves to extinction to do for over 10k years? Its just them blindly smashing their skulls against the same steel door over and over again; expecting some other result other than them becoming a little bit weaker and little bit more braindead with each attempt. At some point, its gonna be adapt or die … and the Darkspear have adapted. So have the Zandalari now. The others might just die.
So when trolls do that they’re damned, when Alliance does that - they’re doing rightful thing.
Double standarts this game has…
It doesn’t work because the Franchise, The Company, the elusive “Writers”, don’t want it to work.
Like nah, sorry, the tribes forming a united front should be strong enough to force concessions out of the Horde and Alliance. It just isn’t because the trolls are simply always going to be villains of the franchise unless they boot lick one of the factions.
“Adapt” = “Boot lick and admit you’re a bunch of savages with no claim to the land stolen from you”
Thanks. I hate it.

Double standarts this game has…
Pretty much.
If you’re not part of one of the player factions you’re already at a huge disadvantage. If you’re attacking one of the player factions without the backing of the other one … you’re double screwed. The Trolls were absolutely smashed to pieces by the Kaldorei Empire, and truly … they never really recovered from that. They may have had some power when there was no one contesting it but themselves after the sundering, but once they were challenged again that illusion fell away.
Honestly, if there was any Race in this game who’s theme was “Allowing their pride and a fantasy of a glorified past destroy their future” its the damned Trolls. I love them as a race, they are amazing, but its hard not to tell that the only people who think that them constantly picking fights with bigger dogs is a good idea is those Troll fans who operate a little bit too much off headcannon.
I get the feeling most people here haven’t read Shadows of the Horde…
Which I guess is fair, but it played a big role in establishing Vol’jin better.
The Trolls were absolutely smashed to pieces by the Kaldorei Empire, and truly … they never really recovered from that.
Every one says this but there really isn’t much details other than the Zandalari recognized that their power was probably no match for Azsharas Empire of arcane after some skirmishes, and they agreed to hand over huge swaths of land in return for peace. We don’t know how many died. We don’t even know what cities villages towns holy places etc were taken from the Trolls. It’s just a vague paragraph to show how powerful Azshara was.
picking fights with bigger dogs
Those bigger dogs aren’t bigger dogs if the tribes are united…
guerilla warfare works IRL too lmao.
I think it’s the fault of writers for not letting them win anything. They’re the cannon fodder of this franchise, despite having actual powers and strenght to rival them.
Remember that Troll wars were almost won if it wouldn’t be for Deus- Ex machine.
And funny enough both humans and elves forgot that they can conjure friggin armaggedon when SCourge appeared. Maybe because they were meant to win against Trolls but not against Scourge, and so Deus-Ex couldn’t be used.
Trolls are imo perfectly capable of standing up themselves and taking some stuff for themselves. Both Horde and Alliance are extremely weakened now to the point of being dismantled.
If there was a narration that would be pro-trolls then the tools are out there to use. But they won’t because they have double standarts and they don’t want anything good to happen to trolls.
Oh. I did a deep dive into Drakkari a while back. While Alliance did try to just brute force their way past them (I think, memory is a bit hazy) the Horde did extend an olive branch of peace to the Drakkari asking for permission to cross through their lands so they could fight the Scourge, and it was rejected. So the Horde ended up buying Drakkari captives from the smugglers to interrogate for information.
It was a crappy thing to do, since those captives were largely refugees (though I’m not sure the Horde knew that, the smugglers definitely did), the Drakkari did let their own pride deny them a potential ally against the Scourge in the first place.
Operating off Headcannon. You like the Trolls so much that you can’t tell how beaten and broken they truly are. They’re on the brink of extinction, and all you can think of is “they should keep doing the same things they’ve done for the last 10k years and expecting a different result” … which is the truest sign of insanity. They aren’t ever getting ANY of their lands back through military action. If they try, even as a “Unified Troll Force” all they’re going to do is piss off the two world superpowers AGAIN and its going to end with all their leaders getting their heads cleaved off by murder hobos AGAIN.
If there was a narration that would be pro-trolls then the tools are out there to use. But they won’t because they have double standarts and they don’t want anything good to happen to trolls.
This.
Like I said Trolls aren’t allowed to flex power or achieve victories unless they are forced to boot lick one of the factions (Which is always the Horde since Blizzard won’t let the Alliance get “monster” races). Otherwise they’re forced into villain fodder.
Operating off Headcannon.
No. I’m operating off of meta-canon, meta-logic, meta-awareness that this is a piece of fiction.
They’re on the brink of extinction
If they are (news to me) it’s simply because Blizzard put them there since they’re original designed as a villain mob like Murlocs, even though they’re actually shown as a large sophisticated set of civilizations.
They aren’t ever getting ANY of their lands back through military action.
Because Blizzard won’t let them, because that’d be scary and not the “story they want to tell”.
Like sorry, give me the pen Blizzard and I can easily write a story about how the troll tribes unite and through guerilla warfare and terroristic means are able to force concessions out of both the Horde and the Alliance,
They’re on brink of extenction? Then whey they’re constantly used? If that would be the case then they wouldn’t be constantly used as a fodder.
Besides I thought that belves are on brink of extinction but they keep on splitting and splitting but somehow they can still make up some armies for some reason.
Like sorry, give me the pen Blizzard and I can easily write a story about how the troll tribes unite and through guerilla warfare and terroristic means are able to force concessions out of both the Horde and the Alliance,
Or, writing them doing some voodoo and infiltraiting both Horde and Alliance to disintegrate it from inside and make sub factions fight each other. Or even use 3rd parties like pirates to attack specific locations to weaken the enemy.
Trolls have schemers out there.
