Another new lore book from Uldaman: Edicts of the Prime Designate

Likewise, I don’t really mind the titans being grey in motive. I think there is a lot of compelling story to be told in regards to cosmic forces battling for dominance.

Where WoW lore loses me completely is its lack of nuance, and the mortal perspective. By all means, focus on primordial, cosmic powers. But do so without dispelling all the mystery, and completely ignoring the perspective of the people and cultures that we play as characters.

Shadowlands could have been so cool as an alien look beyond the pale. Fragments of an eternity to vast to comprehend, and its effects on a narrow cast of characters who are involved in exploring it. Instead we got harry potter houses, and people visting the afterlife like they are going to Disneyland.

The titans had no choice but to pretend to like us. They see flesh as an aberration of their perfect designs just remember what Alganon said about purging thousands of worlds by the maker’s flames. They only spared us and rewarded us because they needed us. Once, we were gone from their pantheon’s presence. It was back to business. They don’t like us; they tolerate us and that’s the best we can hope for from the titans.

Theyre lawful neutral. Order above all, nevermind the moral implications

In fact the titans this new retcon was recently created, really the worst thing that is a victim of this disaster is the empathy that was had in the old wow when seeing the mysteries and secrets that they addressed and it should be deeper or more true than what is known I saw

Seeing the tablet of Mue’Zhala in Zul’Farrak was impressive to see what the Shadowlands did not show something that we would see, but it was not that point where other things changed and you do not see anything equal to what is completed to the race of Azeroth .

Thing that the sinister and mysterious lore of the first ones was what ruined much more the lore that Warcraft addressed and the reason that yes, something that cosmology does not make sense when what would have to be seen is to continue the war of factions, thing that the cosmic war is not relevant to give meaning to the name of the video game.

The Titans should not be seen in a gray tone, even worse when the real threat approaches, I don’t know until when Danuser wants to change the story to be original with it regarding the story that Melzten possibly would have continued to tell us?

The Titans have come across as a bit morally gray since Wrath at least. Algalon lamented the choices that had led to annihilating civilizations on countless worlds.

And Odyn has been portrayed as … let’s go with abrasive … and made some questionable decisions (his stance on the dragons, taking his halls and going home, Helya, etc).

I’m not really sure how much of this really changes much of anything. It’s not like this makes the Titans seem like bad guys. At worst, it makes Odyn seem sketchier, but even then … his rationale is that the other choice is the Black Empire and he didn’t want folks being fans of that. Because, you know, the whole Void corruption thing.

I guess I just don’t see it.

in regards to D&D alignments the Titans are Lawful Evil. They are not neutral. There’s not a single universe where authoritarian order is not evil.

I do, the Void and the age of the Black Empire is painted as unrelenting madness, evil and pure chaos, but now we know it was more complex. If we find out that the trolls evolved naturally on Azeroth back during the Age of the Black Empire, perhaps we will discover the truth. That the empire wasn’t pure madness, but a different kind of ordered chaos. One where people had the choices of infinite opportunities and many chose to be violent and cruel, but offering these choices were in itself a form of freedom from ordered law as offered by the titans.

The old gods in this light wouldn’t be seen as evil per se, but just unrelenting forces that desire chaos of opportunity which is different from chaos of fel. If only we knew more about the Black Empire, its ziggurats, and testimonies of those who lived during that age. Was it all bad? Were mortals suffering? Was it a mix of good and bad? We only know the propaganda and the old gods have their own propaganda to dish out. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Neither good nor bad. Just different.

I understand where you’re coming from, but I think that the devs are trying to paint all of the cosmic forces as neutral.

They’re motivated by their own goals.

I’m not sure the story has succeeded in it. Generally Light/Life is portrayed as benevolent, Disorder/Void as evil, etc.

N’Zoth seems determined to kill or torture anyone associated with the Light and play soccer with their heads as shown by the Visions of N’Zoth!

He has Order but his Order is “No Light period!” and “Consider every possible outcome that does not involve Light being triumphant!”

The Void is a machine that calculates various possibilities to find the most likely one!

Only Disorder & Life are Chaos. Chaos as far as the Titans are concerned must be controlled.

Mortal Races are to be guided by Titan Propaganda not casually wiped out. Sargeras’s desire to control the Legion would not be condemned but instead his desire to destroy all Life.

Well, that was the old lore mostly. This new journal does suggest that the Void isn’t as evil as we were originally led to believe and that the civilizations it does create in reality are just as advanced as the titan led civilizations

That I would love to see! We need to see more worlds and other versions of governance other than the titanic propaganda we’ve been handed these past few years. The Titan keepers are so biased they can’t imagine us ever accepting, “no choices” so they make scenarios where we choose them, because they are the best option and it’s like picking your poison between coke vs pepsi both are bad, but one is worse. At the end of the day, we will discover there are many more options than what we were led to believe never existed at all. I want us to visit a void infused world and see its creatures and madness. If it’s truly a horror show. Then we can accept the titans were right in protecting us by lying and manipulating us etc.

Disagree. Thats pretty much the definition of lawful neutral…

Examples of (lawful neutral) include a soldier who always follows orders, a judge or enforcer who adheres mercilessly to the letter of the law,

Theyre incredibly powerful beings, incomprehensibly so to mortals. All of Azeroth is akin to a spider web spun on a sleeping baby. The fact that they’ve even allowed the web to stay is a sign of some level of benevolence, but likewise its hard to fault them for not valuing the life of every insect in the course of their greater mission to preserve order against the destructive aims of the void.

Well, according to TITAN propaganda the Void is a destructive amoral force. But the new journal found in Tyrs Hold does suggest that either the Titans or their keepers are keeping the truth from us about the Void.

They don’t want us to know that the Void has a sense of order of it’s own. It’s just not as Orderly as the Titans like things to be.

That’s my reading of the new lore book in game

Old Gods are pretty unequivocally evil
They were created specifically by the void lords to corrupt the universe, who are described as
Merciless and cruel beyond imagination, they seek only to twist reality into a realm of eternal torment, and ultimately to devour all matter and energy and the universe itself

I dunno how you get anything but evil from that, and by extension the force fighting against them would almost have to be seen as benevolent

No, the Void has always been painted as a chaotic, but not necessarily evil force. That contrasts with the void lords, who created the Old Gods, who are relentlessly evil and wish only to cause pain and suffering

I just don’t get what’s interesting about this part, honestly. All of the cosmic forces are basically turning into the same force, with virtually the same methods, but different colors. And none of them are interesting characters. And then all your other criticisms, which I fully agree with.

In the case of Disorder & Life we never actually see Disorder nor Life on their own untampered with by the Titans and Death.

Death, Order, Light & Void are pretty much the same due to none of them being Chaos while Life & Disorder are Chaos and thus whatever they represent is an unknown since all instances of their Realms’ presence we’ve seen so far is subjugated by the 4 unimaginatively Orderly Cosmic Forces.

You do realize that the Chronicle is currently declared Titan Propaganda by the Developers right?

which is basically the current writers say “we don’t like the current lore and story, so we are changing it all by calling everything else a “perspective””

Honestly, they have no respect for the work that writers put into chronicles or the investment the players have into the story.

The Writers are Matt Burns, Metzen and Robert Brooks.

Robert Brooks wrote the Ardenweald Animated Short Video before retiring.

Matt Burns is still working for Blizzard and boasts that his Tweets are merely his own opinion(which indicates that he does not have much investment in his work).
