I think they do, they have lots of reasons. And even if that wasn’t enough you can fabricate it.
I’d take even something petty over hugparties. Neutral content is super boring. There are no tensions and third parties are forgettable.

have you ever seen PTSD or witnessed those with combat trauma? There is not a switch from the initial state to the terminal one that’s flipped in a mere couple of minutes like that found in the clip. In the real world veterans lose their families, spiral into a cycle of self-medication, be it through alcohol or other means, and trudge through a long, lonely journey through the depths of hell.
If, by some chance, Anduin vanished for several expansions, and the only whispers about him revolved around a turbulent, self-destructive phase, drowning in addiction and self-loathing, I might buy into that narrative. Slowly, clawing back some semblance of purpose through the existential abyss, by finding solace in serving others, and in that process, emerging as a leader in a time of dire need. But that requires time and skilled writers, something that Blizz is lacking.
The current portrayal doesn’t illustrate a leader I’d ever rally behind, and I’m fairly certain that if most forum dwellers witnessed a politician throwing such a tantrum, they’d promptly withdraw all public support. It doesn’t necessarily imply that he isn’t deserving of empathy; there might even be some level of sympathy I feel toward his situation. Empathy aside, the reality is that doubts of this magnitude inevitably undermine one’s capacity to lead effectively.
Kratos killed his wife and child while under the bloodlust rage of Ares. He had a moment but still managed to be a bad muther trucker after.
So… Why did the jailor even care about Anduin… And why does Azeroth care a bout him?
Like did Onyxia or Benedictus secretly feed him something behind everyone’s back?
Meanwhile Velen having a holiday in the corner.
Say what you want about Sylvanas, but she definitely was a complex character and she had great lines.
Fixed that for you. I know a lot of combat veterans, including my father, who suffer various degrees of PTSD, from mild to severe, and only a handful have gone to that extreme.
I like her, she’s a great character.
Are you already forgetting the example we are talking about? The comment is not about your father who may have some some symptoms of PTSD. Its about a man who broke down in the cinematic and almost stabbed someone and than wallows in existential despair. If a vet looses it to that degree yeah they are going to be spiraling into substance abuse of some type, the alternative is suicide.
This is a guy that if he were in front of a psychologist would be committed for a 72 hour observation and medicated against his will.
Yet hey according to people he has what it takes to be a great leader.
I think I’m done with this though. People are clearly not rational about this.
I would like to thank your father for his service and commitment to our country. But I believe he just referring to a video game character in this sense. We know real life has different consequences.
I did not forget the conversation but if you are going to point out real world examples I’m going to counter with real world examples. People lash out (sometimes violently) regardless if they have PTSD. Doesn’t mean they are actually going to follow through or self-harm. The point was, even if he is at that level, it doesn’t mean he is going to self-destruct and should be the in game equivalent of committed.
Sometimes the best thing for people in the state that Anduin is currently in, is to be surrounded and supported by people with similar experiences that can understand him and help him through it. Not locking them away where they can’t hurt anyone or themselves.
Is Anduin in a fit state to resume leadership of the Alliance? No, definitely not, but with help he can absolutely get there. Thrall has been in a similar mindset and come through it, he (and others) can help Anduin and Anduin will either be stronger for it or he very well could crumble under it.
The contention is that Anduin, committed a felony by pulling a weapon, inherently cannot make sound military decisions given his qualms about taking lives and, furthermore, lacks the fundamental drive to serve (as in serve others the fundamental duty of leadership) due to his focus being on himself.
The real-world analogies are intended to highlight this level of PTSD. To illustrate that we can ask the following:
Do you concur that pulling a weapon against someone unprovoked would likely land you in jail in the real world, and additionally, it would probably hinder your chances of securing any leadership role in government, the military, or even within the corporate sphere?
Moreover, would you agree that individuals so deeply tormented by having taken numerous lives, akin to Anduin, would likely attempt to bury those memories? This would lead to self-medication or even suicidal tendencies as a means of coping with such overwhelming trauma.
Sometimes the best thing for people in the state that Anduin is currently in, is to be surrounded and supported by people with similar experiences that can understand him and help him through it.
I agree but this is something people learn the hard way. Humans take the path of least resistance first. But even here such a remedy doesn’t magically heal you over night it takes years and in the mean time you are in no state to lead anyone until you can pull yourself together.
Indeed which is why I wrote how I thought it should be handled. At this time though there is no way I could see him leading anyone.
And to be clear nothing here or above is intended to be a slight against your father.
If caught, or if the other party disclosed the information yes.
If left to his own devices that is a likely possiblity. With support and guidance I believe it wouldn’t come to that, or at the very least make it less likely.
I agree that he is no where near ready or capable to rule/lead anyone right now.
No offense was taken, I know you didn’t mean any harm.
It’s called empathy. No wonder you can’t figure this out.
So did Arthas and Illidan.
Do we all remember the playerbase being split about their toxic masculinity and hated them for it? Neither do I because it didnt happen.
Thrall, the other character so many hate because they made him weak.
Ya’ll can keep pretending but the story of WoW has been near universally panned as being in a major downturn in quality with only diehards still clinging to the distant past as a sign of it being great and this denial that leadership means being just like everyone else is a sign of not being based in reality.
Can you name the last major leader with PTSD? Hitler? Stalin? Mao? Pol-Pot? All the leaders with it all were despots. We are not talking about the average person, we are talking about a person that leads a nation and Anduin is not it, I would not put him in charge of latrine duty as PTSD = time to retire and take care of your mind. Thus, he is useless in a story like this just like Thrall.
The tropes the writers are trapped in with their ever increasing power of main characters and immortals to fight created this royal mess when those characters should have been allowed to just walk off into the sunset because they no longer have an actual value to a good story.
Alright, my point was about bad character direction.
Your point was about “empathy” and to get that point across, you insult me… that’s ironic.
And if you think you understand empathy and are still able to insult other people, guess what, you don’t. Maybe a little self reflection would do ya some good.
Have a better day.
I guess you missed the last two god of wars where he was pretty messed up by PTSD and Trauma and even whined a little bit.
He did work through it with the skulls of his enemies though. Maybe Anduin can do the same.
I don’t think it has gotten old. I mean…every expansion has things unfolding and Anduin was part of that as well as many others. I’m really excited he has returned. We need some strong male leaders in this game again and I hope he becomes one.
We can agree that we need strong male leaders and it would be nice if Anduin would become one. It seems like all the strong male leaders have been sidelined and replaced with strong female characters.
You know, I think i’m gonna write a steamy romance novel with the title of this thread
