Analysis Of Why Tanks Are Underplayed

Tanks are not underplayed. Most decent or good tanks simply don’t play with pugs.

In what way? Tanks are pretty powerful both in terms of tankiness and DPS at the moment. Aggro is also a non-issue.

It is 100% not the truth. When they added DK, DH, and Monk tanks did that make any significant impact? No, it didn’t. There is no global tank shortage. The tank shortage exists exclusively in the pug community and it isn’t because there aren’t enough classes who can tank.

What is there to “lead”? People barely say two words.

Hit the nail on the head.

Tanking in World of Warcraft is stressful, unrewarding and annoying.

It’s just not worth everything you put into it.

I find it too stressful to tank at least anything higher than M0.

Anything higher then that and pressure is really on.

Plus tanking as a playstyle feels more like I’m trying to hold aggro on everything trying to run in 50 directions at once than being an unstoppable force that can’t be stopped.

It takes way more work than being a DPS. Being the leader who has to know routes and which mobs to pull. I LOVE tanking, but I will not do it at high keys. I would rather play my hunter and just kinda follow along and do damage. Tanks are the leaders of the group. There’s a lot more research that has to go into it than a DPS who just goes along with the group and kills whatever is pulled. Plus, you get blamed as the leader/tank for going the wrong way or not doing the most optimal route.

When I say do high keys
You WILL love tanking high keys :imp: :hocho:

When there’s an opinion in a PUG about performance, 99% it’s a critique oh how the tank is doing their job. The other 1% is healer critiques. I have yet to be in a PUG where a dps calls out another dps. It does happen in raids , but I have to see it happen in 5 man pugs. This is the reason for pug tank shortage plain and simple. An easy fix is to get rid of key depletion. It would go miles towards taking the edge off.

TLDR

2 tanks slots in 20 man

tank jobs is leader in dungeons learn paths , patrols and whatnot is tons of pressure

tank rotation is simple , still unsecure about agro, spam more aoe threath…

DBM warnings help…tank swapping on raids is all blizz can do

i like tanking but hard to get a spot as tank in raids …M+ puggin as tank is painfull

I feel like this is it, almost nothing I do as a dps will cause the group to wipe and waste everyone’s time.

There just isent enough quality dps players in the pool of players to entice me to ever want to tank, most of them dont interrupt or even do their job which is bring enough dps to hit an enrage or clear a pull before the healer runs out of mana, in order for me to make things go as smoothly as possible i have to be dps myself because most players love the job but for some reason never properly learn how to do their job

When it comes to people just “trash talking” they were never serious to begin with, you wouldnt sabotauge your own group by being toxic to the party halfway through because that would jepardize your own chance at clearing the dungeon, those people are their only to troll because thats whats fun to them and they can get away with it for no recourse unlike in FFXIV, they are easy to deal with just ignore and never group again

I used to really enjoy tanking, but not anymore as the dungeons are now less linear, the mechanics more convoluted, and the pace of gameplay much faster with no time to breathe between mobs and bosses.

I would like to add that I’ve run 5 tanks through Uldaman during the current event and several times got out without any piece of gear while having to carry 180 Ilvl DPS that were too lazy to gear through invasions, wasted time for no gear. Maybe blizzard should start to give tanks at least one piece of gear per run at least in lfd

I for one am glad there is yet another thread about the dungeon dynamic disfunction. The other countless ones just werent good enough to contain all the fresh, original thought on this interesting subject.

It could help in that if a persons main toon had a tank spec added to it and they didn’t have to roll a new toon just to tank, they may be more inclined to tank. Heck, I only started tanking so I could get more runs in thus more gear for my main DPS spec.

And I’m so glad you took the time to make a pointless post with nothing to add to the conversation lol. Imagine, clicking on a thread just to leave a useless diatribe about nothing.

You find them fairly consistently once you get past a certain bracket. It’s why players have significant differences in experiences within the same end-game system.

People actually don’t play tanks because the specs are poorly designed and boring to play.

What? I said i was glad we had yet another bespoke thread on the subject.

Lol no. Brewmaster is one of the funnest, unique specs in the game. Both prot specs are great as well. I agree with your assertion when it comes to blood and bears. I have never rolled a demon hunter. They’ve always seemed stupid af to me.
