It existed in vanilla because there was only one class that could do it. I had no problems finding tanks in TBC. You can thank Jeff Kaplan for that one.
Yes there is a shortage of tanks. When M+ groups are struggling to find tanks at an upwards of 20 min queues than that mean there is indeed a tank shortage
Isnāt there addons to help tanks with this? I know there is one that shows paths you have to take
Being playing warrior tank since vanilla, maybe you just get the bad ones?
The tank role has always kind of had this unspoken responsibility/expectation that they run the show, in may cases (NOT ALL). Back before we had as much information available to us on boss fights and methods to run an instance, before threat meters, before all these addons that makes things much easier, the Tank called the shots, most of the time.
I feel that the overall community attitude declining is really a large part of why Both Tanks and Healers are endangered classes. Why does anyone want to deal with all the BS attitude that comes at them for doing a thankless job that nobody appreciates, respects, or empathizes with.
On the same token, this results in poor attitude continuing to climb. This is where shoulder chips begin to form, and people go into an instance expecting something to piss them off. When your waiting for a moment to get pissed, youāre going to find it.
We canāt buff or coddle or bribe people to play classes because the main reasons nobody wants to play them are not actually addresses. You canāt fix a problem by working around the cause and leaving it in place.
Sadly, I donāt know how the community pulls out from this nosedive. Because it is a nose dive. Trying to stay positive on these forms and in this game is nearly as difficult as tanking and healing can be on people. And if simply enjoying the game is as difficult as being positive, positive people will continue to go the way of the tank. Scarce.
How so? Hasnāt the WoW community always been toxic? except it used to be for raiding and now itās more so for dungeons
Maybe if we gave tanks an extra gear piece for tanking a dungeon then there will probably be more people playing it for the rewards.
Not true at all, I know people who have never tried healers before that are now playing as a healer just because of Evokers.
Iām pretty sure almost no one kicks tanks from there M+ run because kicking someone out is essentially failing the key.
I donāt feel this is a long term solution.
I also feel that the community has declined over the years. Just my opinion.
Buff Tanks
I agree buff BDK and no one else.
Iāll tell you why no one plays tanks. Itās real easy. It doesnāt require a wordy post. People donāt play tanks because they donāt want to. Simple. No amount of buffs or anything else is going to change that.
I have at least 10 tanksā¦
mostly BDK with a cple pallys thrown in for flavor
This is my main, she does everything
I donāt mind pressure, or resposnibility
I DO mind poor attitudes in society, & unforgiving people when the smallest mistakes are madeā¦even tho its just a game, and NONE of us are getting paid to play it, nor do our lives depend on it. (but, for some reason some folks treat it that way)
The other thing is too much flashy crud in instances, and too much to memorizeā¦feels more like work (to ME) than a game at that point.
I see tanks all over the place in open workā¦bears, pallyās, BDKā¦see them everywhere
and THAT is why there is a shortageā¦in instances that isā¦certainly why I gave up on itā¦
When one is doing an LFD and a upper-geared Warrior is complaining about my tanking speed (as itās impossible to tell right away how good a group is so I prefer to ramp up than waste time running back), but isnāt willing to tank himself, itās definitely a case of tanks being treated like crap.
If Iām going to be treated like that in a dungeon where speed doesnāt matter, what should I expect from a pug situation where speed DOES matter? Yeah, I only do Mythics with people I can halfway trust, not randos who are already in a toxic atmosphere.
I donāt think there is a way of getting around this. especially not in the M+ dominated end game that is WoW today.
but even if they arenāt actually leading the raid, they need to know the fight as well as the raid leader. there simply is much smaller room for error in the role. if a tank goes down in a raid, a wipe is very likely. if the boss position isnāt correct, that can cause a wipe.
there is simply more responsibility in the role and very few measures of success other than completion.
