An RPG without housing

Well we’d need something for housing since apparently children is a possibility in our future.

If you believe that lazy dragon Surristrasz.

If we were to have housing, we could have romance arc options Skyrim Style. Because the house wont keep itself. Right ? lol

It’s okay, guys. We can start a campfire out in the Barrens until we get actual housing.

No, the player characters are nomadic. Every expansion, we go somewhere new, and take up residence on the front lines. That’s always been WoW’s story.

BC? We were in Shatt. Northrend, we were in Dal. Cata, we went back home to Orgrimmar and Stormwind. MoP, we stayed in the Shrines. WoD, we were on another planet in our Garrisons. Legion, we stayed in Dalaran and Class Halls. BFA, we’re residents of Zandalar and Kul Tiras.

The player character means zero to the narrative of WoW, despite all the smoke it blows up our rears. We’re more akin to mannequins acting as couriers for certain roles. Legion was the best indicator of this. You weren’t the Highlord. Max Tyrosus, or Lady Liadrin was. I wasn’t the high priest. Alonsus Faol was. We are nobodies. Rank and file for our various armies. We go where we’re needed as soldiers / people of various organizations. Not heroes who have a home we return to all the time.

Our characters:

Less traditional rpg, more arpg.

You’ll run those greater rifts in 30 minutes and like it!

I am an itinerant adventurer, living hand to mouth on the spoils of wars, I don’t have time to look after a house. Heck, I barely have time to keep my bank organized!

That said, while I am not against the idea for others, for myself, I would prefer Blizzard concentrate on creating content pertinent to the theme of the game which is war, not housekeeping.

It just feels like it would be a waste of development time. With the state BfA is in they need all hands on deck to make Shadowlands good. Housing will not make make an expansion great or a mmo for that matter. If that were the case daoc, lotro, eq2, rift et would have way more players than wow does. So… clearly housing isn’t very important after all.

Communities? Mission table?

You’re just making excuses for a billion dollar company. I would rather expect things from them that take more than 5 minutes, unlike allied races.

Ya sure let’s just hang out in our garrisons. Oh wait I mean sub-par player housing created by the same people who gave you allied race customizations.

I bet it’ll be a real hit with people who would rather be playing the Sims or Minecraft. I bet they’ll really enjoy keyboard turning around their poorly decorated home as they que for lfr.

You player housing people need to just go play a game that will give you real player housing not hoping that blizzard gives you some crap version that you will just complain about on the forums.

Tried housing in SWTOR as well as EQ2. Both games left me nonplussed, it becomes a mini-game of acquiring stuff that does nothing. I didn’t much bother with it in either game, I don’t like the Sims games and that’s pretty much what it felt like. Ooh, my decor!

The world is too small. The insistence of having us grounded is partly due to the world being so small. It doesn’t make a lot of sense.

The world should be larger so having faster mounts is justifiable. That and the player housing zones should be auto-scaling based on player needs. Such that each week the zone automatically expands as players fill it with plots. Each plot costing some effort.

I like the idea of housing materials being in the world. Another thing to hunt for. I also like the Fallout 4 settlement building system and think this could work in WoW. Where you pay a price for a plot and then fill the plot with designs you like. Maybe after some serious effort you can get things like a portal to the capital city, a portal from your map (like Path of Exile does), an auctioneer (maybe) and some other goodies. No gathering mats though.

And the auto scaling zone should have things to do in it too. Such that some weeks maybe a cave is dropped in and that cave contains a once off NPC encounter. Something procedural generated. That would be cool.

You have a whole garrison. Sure, it may be on another planet in a different timeline, but it’s there!

Also, if they ever do housing, they might even include guild halls! Maybe they could even introduce certain items that you can display on your guild hall showing your guild’s achievements!

Also, imo, it would be better to have the guild bank in such a place too.

That’s where my mind is actually.

The plot owner can either be a guild master or a party leader. Such that all players pool their resources to assist in constructing the house on the plot. Then each has a key to access it.

Depending on the amount of resources going into it the plot can be pretty big. The plot should be a fixed size with a scaling gold cost per plot. So resources can be pooled to get a bigger plot.

The zones for the plots would automatically scale based on player needs. So once all plots are acquired, the zone expands on its own with some further goodies on along the edges. The zone would have different points for travel including flight masters. The flight masters would put you in flight like normal, the mount would climb to the skies, the screen would fade and you’d be back in the normal world along a given flight path.

Getting back would work the same way.

If they want to increase playtime metrics by making the game more fun instead of artificially timegating things, housing would be the way to do it. I’ve spent so much time crafting/designing/collecting items to place in my house in EQ2/Wildstar/FFXIV.

WoW Devs don’t seem to care about the RP part of MMORPG anymore though.

Wonder what happens when our characters need to poop during raids.

The e-sport push is coming in externally. I really doubt the dev team cares for it. This might also explain the GCD which we all hate.

Their resources are limited so only some things are going to be done, unfortunately. I admit some of the design I really dislike and I think resources could be spent better on some things. Rep tabards for instance should be a thing again. So should player housing at this point. But I do recognize that in a perfect world even the director probably agrees with us.

A+ mog my friend. Absolutely amazing.

Blizzard always undervalues how cosmetic rewards can keep us busy and happy for a long time.

Instead, they rather focus on forced grinding tactics to gate character progression while blissfully ignoring how many of us would do that very same grind for a cosmetic reward.

I have farmed things far worse than essences and pathfinder for a damn recolored mount I will never use in my life, all that with a smile on my face.

Do you guys have any idea how player housing could keep people busy for AGES?
The potential for cosmetics is endless, at this point Blizzard is refusing to make more money.
