An Eye on Player Behavior and Reporting Improvements

I’m not going to discuss whether the punishment was deserved. If the mods had them change their name and get suspended that’s not an example of false reporting.

If a report is false there shouldn’t be a punishment.
I’ve heard of cases where people were punished wrongfully and it was a huge pain for them to try to get it reversed. I’m hoping (because I have nothing but anecdotal information) that this doesn’t happen often.
I have no doubt false reports are made and there might be people wrongfully punished, yet there’s no evidence this is rampant and that it’s going to get worse now.

I’ve had to mute several threads. They just keep popping up with the same message from scared people worried the sky is falling.

Blizzard if you can actually pull this off, kudos. At the same time, I understand toxicity is just the nature of games. You can’t fight it all.

All I’d really like to ask is that you don’t send out awkwardly sounding statements like the FF14 team does. Fight the toxicity to a point we see the changes in the game and leave it at that. Please don’t send us “We’ve noticed you’re doing something highly subjectively negative and we ask that you stop.”

I’m ok with you not pretending to be our pal and acting like we’re all amazing human beings. If you can continue to etch $$ out of us while addressing ethical issues, I’ll be your fan forever.

The reports were infact false. They were reinstated / reversed for a reason. You can still get punished for false reporting.

Reports being false |=| Punishment being given by Blizzard.

The rest I do agree with of your post. And while there’s no evidence of it being rampant now, It doesn’t mean that it won’t. It’s okay to worry about what will happen and think ahead. I fear with this contract as an earlier post mentioned. People will be afraid to talk because it can’t really be hard deemed what another finds distressing with jokes and banter. ^^

I’m sorry, I missed the last part of your post saying that they were reinstated. I’m glad it got corrected.
I do hope they punish false reporting as that’s very important.
I just do not see the arguments that have been put forth have any validity for people thinking that there will be more abuses of the reporting system.
I guess we’ll just have to see. :hugs:

This is idiotic. Focus on making better games over being nannies for players.

Makes me wonder who at Blizz sexually harassed co-workers this time, since they always make stupid changes when that happens. Which is disgustingly common.

Yea that guy literally is itching to report and abuse this system. Not cool man lol I jus.came out two mont ban from report abuse over a macro and me telling the FC he’s stupid for holding the flag and waisting our time purposely. Banned for that. This game and. Company can no longer be trusted. Ten year sub ND I get treated like that on top of the fact that it counts towards ur paid game time. t least make the time we pay for separate from ur flawed ban system blizzard. U guys will only get negativity from ur little " we are justice yea!! Ban me for a month for saying goblins are equivalent to Jews ?? Everyone I play with knows I joke around. Now I play this game and my free speech is restrricted and so easily banable??? Y’all think people want this?? One more ban over something stupid again and I want mymonths paid time money back and I will leave the game for good. So yea blizz
. Truth is we all know ur only doing this cuz of ur harassment cases , so don’t be some kind of virtual justice. All of a sudden cuz I honestly loved this game for years but wen I can’t joke around with buddies without constant fear that if i say the eff word I could get banned. Like what the hell? U know how uncomfortable this game is now for me?? We all know ur guilty n that’s the only reason why ur starting to censor . Wen in reality it’s a Lil sus. … Yo watch them ban me for speaking the truth here. . Wouldnt that be appalling. . Complete trashing of our first our right to free speech. I do nothing but bring laughter and joy . And for me to get banned for saying something no where near ban worthy . It’s lik u guys want to lose ur long time players . . Don’t start censoring just because YOU guys got caught up .makes me wonder what else y’all keep covered up

Bro read my post home boy. I literally don’t even type in chat no more. It’s nuts. I used to. E the light and the social one NOW IM THE GUY WHO WARNS OTHERS TO WATCH wat they say SO they don’t get banned by algolhorothm bots.

I am so confused by your article. Here are the points that confuse me:

  1. Social Contract – you already have a ToS. Why don’t you just sanction players who violate it.

  2. Reporting player procedure – This already exists in the game. a) you can already give a reason. b) you can already give additional details.

  3. Thank you notes – This is already in the game. I’ve received multiple thank you notes when I’ve reported people.

So, based on the above points, I can only surmise that this is all a total PR campaign that you are subjecting your customers to. That is something I am 100% against because it is disingenuous. If you cared about your customers, you would not have to create a PR campaign like this to try and hoodwink them into thinking you’ve changed.

Wut?

The thing that worries me is, in the real world generalized contracts or laws like this (to those of us who know a thing or two about Law) are used by petty tyrants to punish those they don’t like. If you make such a generalized statement in something that is supposed to be legally binding, it makes it open to be rife with abuse. I’ll give you an example, if you read the full “social contract” it states towards the end (and threatens suspensions) “and any other activity which may be considered to be disruptive.” Anybody could say that ANYTHING is “disruptive”. It’s way too generalized and I 100% guarantee it will be abused. I mean someone could say “I think that Pepsi is superior and anyone who likes Coca-Cola is being disruptive” and have them and their friends mass-report that person. With the current system there is zero human verification and therefore that player would receive an instant suspension. It’s really bad and honestly the wording should be changed if they actually expect this to be held to a legal standard and possibly used in court.

That being said, The sad thing is people are too ignorant to realize abuse happens in every organization, blind faith in any organization is a very bad thing. And the victims of those abuses are generally ignored

All I can predict is trade chat and any other chat channels be completed quiet as people just mute them and leave them in fear of being reprimanded because they said a word that was misinterpreted by someone and it got reported.

Suspension.

What does the macro do?

Well, calling somebody “stupid” is name calling and not a nice thing to say to someone, even if you don’t like them.

I’d report you, too, and it wouldn’t be a “false report”.

Suspended.

Ten years of playing this game, and you think you’re the victim for calling somebody else “stupid”?

Discipline System.

Suspended.

First, you call somebody “stupid”, now you wanna poke fun at “religion”

Key phrase being people that you know. People who don’t know you, may not see it as “a joke”.

We never could say certain things. Seems like somebody needs a recap, on the rules. And, actionable, not bannable.

I don’t think people should be calling others “stupid” nor “joking about” religion…at least not publicly.

Should’ve left a long time ago 'cause the rules haven’t really changed.

Nah, they just want to postpone certain reports that aren’t as important, to them.

You can joke around and say “the eff word” with your buddies, still. That doesn’t require any of your personal conversations to be had, in the public chat channels like BG chat, where you flat out (and non-“joke” like) called someone “stupid”.

You know how uncomfortable you made that person feel, when you called them “stupid”? Or, do their feelings not matter and only your’s?

Lol Squelch has been a “censoring” tool since it came out, in Cata. Where you been?

Suspended. But, I’m thinking a deleted post, and you’ll keep your posting rights.

The real truth is Blizz is just lazy.

That never existed, here.

I don’t find you calling somebody, who pissed you off “stupid” nor equating a race to a religion all that funny, but you do you.

You weren’t banned, and you did say something that is deserving of getting actioned. You called somebody “stupid”, by your own admission.

No, they don’t want jerks. Doesn’t matter how long you’ve been playing.

They’ve been doing this since the Squelch. Where you been?

If you want to use that language to be offensive towards others it’s better to remove you. I mean no one has the right to disrupt multiple people at a time.

If they are wasting people’s time then they deserved to be called that.
Now, with all the garbage going on I’ll just start emoting them and using the sit/stand/sit/stand repeatedly on them

No, they don’t. Nobody “deserves” to be name called based off of what we think people should be doing, in the game.

Well, agree to disagree. So now instead of names, they get the emotes. A bunch of different ones and some gestures in game. lol

Remember, some of the “offensive” emotes got removed

There are a few i like to use still. /slap/pet/lol/no/point Then the t-ba…
