AMD has FINALLY surpassed Intel in WoW, RIP

@Ragely you are clearly not the common consumer. You have to understand marketing is done towards the common consumer aka the mass audience. Should it be legal? No I agree with you there but it is the way it is.

You have to realize that you and probably me are in a niche audience. We are the 5%. So threads In Articles like this you never cater to us because people like us do our own research just like Salhezar said.

@Salhezar I mostly agree with just about everything you’ve said yet can understand Ragelys point.

While I would say that’s true sometimes, I do not think that’s the case with the new AMD chips. Under most realistic circumstances, the new chips do outperform the Intel current Intel parts.

Getting them on the other hand is the problem.

I agree my man and I wonder how many sales AMD is losing to Intel due to this. When people can’t buy what they think is the best? They settle for second-best

As an enthusiast myself, I don’t see myself getting the current Intel chips.

Yes, with superfast RAM, they might still be about the same or slightly faster, but they lack PCIE4 which I feel will be helpful in the coming months with both GPU manufacturers using advanced technologies like SAM/DirectStorage.

10700KF is only $289 right now. It’s very compelling.

It is a better gaming machine than the 3700/3800X, and cheaper.

5800x doesn’t matter if you can’t get one.

I’m sorry my friend I completely disagree. PCIE4 will never be a necessity. We only use about 30% of PCIE3 lanes and thats the 3090. Companies are already in the process of PCIE5 and 6.0. By the time PCIE4 becomes relevant it will already be condemned.

2022 will be the year when all that matters and then we will have new motherboards and redesign processors from both parties.

Hell I tell most people if you’re going to upgrade wait till then

It’s a gamble for sure, but I’m hoping to get application of CPU-agnostic SAM/MSDirectStorage within the next year.

Both MS and Nvidia have made statements about this tech. While it’s absolutely not necessary, but like I said, I feel it will helpful. Not necessary.

From a personal purchase decision, factoring in near-equal performance levels, these other features are definitely worth considering.

Shifty you were probably right. I’m in the crowd that build a new rig every two years. Did one now and I will build another one you already mentioned in 2022. I realize I’m far from the average consumer

I’m still going to hang onto my 8700k for a while. It’s not really perceptively worse than the 10700k/10900k at most games that I play, even with the 3080 at the resolution I’ll be playing at, and since it’s still not on a PCIE4 platform, I won’t be gaining any new features I don’t already have.

I agree with you man the smartest thing someone in your shoes could do is sit tight and wait for 2022. They will be massive redesigns from both parties and that will be the year to upgrade for just about everybody

Lol more than me! Im on a 5year program. How the hell do you afford this you must be paid very well

I work for tech game testing company. We have an exclusive contract with most component makers. I get employee pricing on all my components 30%-60% off depending on the company and the component

GPU couldn’t wait though.

I needed to buy something, and it made the most sense.

This was me in a nutshell over the past 6 months with COVID ruining everything:

And 3080 it was, LOL

I have 5 gaming PCs in my house that get rotating upgrades.

Stupid family being so damned needy!

I guess the side effect is no upgrade truly ever goes to waste.

This 3080 will lead to the retirement of a 1060 3gb on the bottom end.

Going to be a fun game of GPU musical chairs once this comes in.

Do you get Early Access? I mean can you purchase them before they hit the street? Basically when the reviewers get them?

Salhezar I bet Ragely didnt wait for a 3080 lol

I have the 3090 and yes.

Lol.

Okay you are dead to me. I no longer like you. Most of us can only dream of owning such a thing. I take back some of the things I said I just don’t think you have a freaking clue what it’s like to be the common consumer. Hell I would argue that you’re not a consumer at all. I mean you don’t have to worry about scalpers or any of the stuff the rest of us do LOL

3090 is a bit above my weight class.

The 3080 is the most I’ve ever spent on a single graphics card.

I have usually been on a relatively tight budget up until the last 4 or 5 years. A teenager/young man living alone was cost prohibitive, then marriage and kids, more cost limitations…now I’m a bit more stable and can afford luxuries.

But even now, when I can afford a 3090…there’s a mind block that prevents me from spending that much.

$749 for the 3080 was already difficult to accept. I see $749 and I see a new washer, dryer, refrigerator, tires, etc. etc. But I still feel good about it as a gift to myself. My LG washer and dryer are okay. Just got a new mattress. That felt good.

Same goes for CPUs and other hardware. Up until the last 5 years it’s always been lower-middle range stuff.

I don’t know if I’ll ever shed that mental block. Maybe it’s for the best, LOL.

Dude Ragely is not on our level. I could barely afford 3090 even at 60% off.

She probably works for Tom’s Hardware or something like that. She’s in what I call the private jet League. It’s basically the crowd that doesn’t even remember what it’s like to be the common consumer LoL

I’ll take a 60% off 3090
