Am I the only one?

You are definitely not the only one. Lots of WoW players don’t care about it and have been vocal in not understanding the players who do.

No feature will appeal to everyone.

That’s where we’re gonna disagree. Of course it’s a wise use of development time. Despite your not caring about it, many of your fellow players do care about it and have asked for it over and over again for the entire 20-year run of this game.

I said on another thread that only two things are guaranteed with the release of player housing and that one of those is players blaming everything they find frustrating in the current game on the “waste of dev time” on player housing.

If you don’t like player housing, you likely won’t have to use it, and you can spend your game time doing other things. It doesn’t follow that because you don’t care about it that its development was a waste of time.

I like the addition of delves to the game, but I don’t often go into them. I don’t particularly enjoy them after seeing them all once, and the feature as a whole doesn’t really appeal to me.

It doesn’t follow that because I don’t love delves that they were a waste of developer time. I think they are an awesome addition to WoW, answering a lot of desires the player base has been asking for. Delves have made a lot of players very happy, and that makes them a net positive for the health and future of WoW. It was the same with M+. A lot of players really dislike it as a system, but for a whole bunch of other players, M+ is the only reason they log in.

It is the same with player housing or any other evergreen feature added to the game.

I think I’d be less wary had developers not been leaving / being cut left right and centre, as well as QA seemingly no longer being a department.

No, it’s an complete waste of time. There will be an small portion of the players that use it, and the rest will ignore it. And really, if in want to decorate an house, in have one in real life that in don’t bother with. No interest in doing so in wow just like in every other game- most players in reach of those games never use housing, unless it has something that grants player power/convenience

This is exactly what will happen. Except they’ll never get to 12 revisions; they’ll just abandon it.

…you’re probably not the only one but unless you can prove that spending time on it necessarily causes other features of the game to decline in quality your point is sorta moot.

For all we know they have enough money to have a substantial dungeon and raid and pvp team AND manage this new housing team.

End of the day, many players do like this sort of cosmetic stuff. Think about how many people mount and mog hunt. Why would this be different?

Only a tiny fraction of the wow population does mythic raiding and yet those fights are finely tuned and clearly a lot of work goes into them… Doesn’t mean we’re gonna scrap mythic raid lol.

Just don’t partake. I don’t partake in pvp or pet battles or professions for the most part apart selling mats.

Now there’s just another thing for people to enjoy. (Or not!)

Well I’m just flattered you have taken notice of me. I haven’t been around much this expansion, but I’ve been here for years and years now. Sometimes my takes are mixed with bait. I’ll die on the leveling hill though. Nobody is wants to do that crap anymore but a handful of forum goers

the game must revolve around your tastes not anyone elses.

every other mmo has housing

wow is 20 years late to it

You care so little about player housing that you make a thread dedicated to it.

You’re not the only one OP. And since it’s optional you don’t have to worry about it. And hopefully another team will sole be working on it so other teams won’t be affected.

I’ve spent so many extra hours in other games (Wildstar, FFXIV, Skyrim) just redesigning my house, but I’m also the type of player that does a bit of everything in game. I go for AOTC and keystone master each season if I’m feeling motivated enough. On top of the delve challenges. I also transmog farm/work on old and current legendries and have recently been getting a bit more into pet battles.

My point being, something like housing that could tie into various parts of the game, giving you reasons to do other things or engage in other content or go back and do a transmog run you’ve done hundreds of times because now it has some unique furniture that drops from some of the bosses, is probably going to be worth it just from a player retention standpoint alone. It’s been something that people have made comparisons about for ages and it becomes more and more glaring to a lot of people when a MMO doesn’t have player housing, or any plans to include it. So I think this was a long time coming.

That being said, I do think it’s perfectly ok to not be excited for housing. And honestly, if the system is implemented well, you shouldn’t feel punished for not engaging with it if you don’t want to. Just like people don’t feel like they miss out on much if they don’t engage in pet battles, choosing to not engage with the housing system should feel similar in that sense.

Time will tell, but that would be the ideal honestly. A great system for those who want that option, but a non issue for those who don’t.

So glad you’re not a dev.

I also couldn’t care less about it.

At best, it’s made me roll my eyes slightly at the concept of the plethora of new stuff I will eventually (and inevitably) get the itch to collect.

No issues with it though. People have been asking for this for ages.

I mean, I’m not jumping for joy over it, but, it’s been a LONG time coming, and WAS supposed to drop with Vanilla, they just held it back for whatever reason while every other MMO under the sun did it. Now it’s WoW’s turn. Whatever. Gives me an excuse to spend the mountains of gold I have collecting dust.

There are plenty of things in the game that don’t increase player power that are important aspects of the game.

It’s a new element to making the game feel more “you” and being able to share that with others you play with or not. I think it’s a great idea. I’m not a roleplayer myself but I do enjoy the heck out of transmog and collecting things!

I could take it or leave it. But since I pay for the game if they add it I’ll at least check it out.

Same. Its only above raiding, M+, the Dark Moon Fair, and Role play

That will make it all the more interesting. It won’t get reset every six months like gear does. No moving goal posts on housing progress.

I don’t care about it. But a lot of other people seem to, so I’m glad they’re getting it.
