Then don’t buy them. If they follow things like in swtor, you will get stuff from just playing the game and unlocking achievements.
I got portraits of bosses I’ve killed in swtor for my wall.

im stilling sitting on that free house they gave back when they first came out. i outa decorate it considering i used to open loot box’s and sell stuff for the credits
I’m not too interested in it myself, because I’m not really creative enough to fully enjoy designing stuff in a ‘sandbox’ environment. A design like the garrison had works much better for me, where there’s very little choice involved.
That being said, my ears perked up when Blizz mentioned ‘rewards’ and ‘progression’ in that article they posted. I’m curious to find out more about what those words mean in the context of housing and neighborhoods.
Wait a minute
Rewards? Progression?
It’s gunna be the Happy Home Academy from animal crossing! Put your furniture in the right spot for Feng Shui points!
It’s as much “wise use of developer time” as all the effort that’s gone into transmog–which I personally don’t give a damn about.
Understand that there are a wide variety of people who play this game and we all have different perspectives and portions of the game we care deeply about. I think that even though I am not excited about player housing myself, I know a lot of people ARE and just like me… they pay for a subscription too so Blizz is wise to look across the playerbase and not just focus on one segment.
I’ll check out the player housing and who knows? I might get involved in it. (I tried transmog and it felt like “playing with dolls” when I was a little girl–so not for me).
Again, there’s no rule that someone has to like/value/want EVERYTHING in the game… do what you like and skip the rest. But like in real life, this game is not “one-size-fits all”… and that’s one of the things I MOST appreciate about WoW.
Yup, I will be playing with housing a lot since I don’t do higher end gameplay. That thought never crossed my mind. I really was not expecting the neighborhoods and thought it would function a lot like the Garrison.
DOOM player spotted.
WoW has needed housing for a while now. RP’ers keep the social setting in this game alive and well.
I know we all have our opinions so please don’t take this the wrong way: if they burned mythic plus to the ground tomorrow and removed mythic everything from this game and took it all back to heroics, I would not be sad. This is a role-playing game, not a rat race on a treadmill so all of that endgame pillar crap that they’ve been wasting time on for the last 10 years. I’m actually pleased as punch that I finally get player housing.
What gave it away
The reference
The transmog
Or the class choice?
I know it wasn’t the race choice for sure
Cool story.
Transmog
Battle pet collecting
Completing world achievements
Collecting mounts
Collecting old crafting patterns, particularly the Ancient ones.
Collecting toys
Should I go on?
Not everything is about player power and its fine if you don[t see the point of it, which does not mean it has no point. Take away all the things that do not empower your character to hit things harder and you’d have a pretty empty gameworld.
Definitely not this one since Doomguy will be using a shield in the upcoming game.
But yes, it was the reference.
There’s no point at all. And, yes, it’s an incredible waste of resources. There will be less playable content in the future due to this resource diversion. Terrible decision.
I expect there will be a garden with a single headstone for Ray D. Tear, just like there was with Garrisons.
Blizz spreading themselves so thin and then attempting such a massive undertaking as this one… I don’t have high hopes.
Am I the only one?
Yes.
You are.
then why does this thread exist?
so what.
everything that exists in the game doesn’t have to revolve around your e-sports PVE grind.
absolutely. It’s going to print money and keep people subscribed and engaged far more than a terrible version of e-sports does. it’s going to be a massive success whether YOU personally like it or not.
I won’t say I hoped for that but I have no interest in having neighbors. Less interested in neighborhood activities.
Raiders are a mixed bag… usually they are all highly passionate about the game. I know there are people I raid with who are going to be super into this and want to mandate a guild standard.
Unlike my push for rated battlegrounds groups I think they are gonna get it.
So…you don’t want to come to my welcome to the neighborhood cookout.
I really am hoping the neighborhood stuff is 100% cosmetic/ optional. Housing is not for everyone and Blizzard has to know that people will try to force a group standard.
It’s going to be just like the housing in SWTOR, so meh.
I love the housing system in Old Republic. But the article hints at some differences. So we’ll see.
