I think Blizzard knows more about the numbers than you do, and I think they have factored everything you have said since it’s their game and all. They’ve decided to do it. So to them they obviously believe that there IS demand for it. End of story.
Seasons? Try the entire expansion. I’ve literally came back because player housing was announced.
Most people who play WoW are tired, overworked and have families. Many of them don’t have schedules that allow for taking the game seriously. A lot of players do NOT do mythics.
Blizzard have realized the changing player base, we have gotten older and busier. This is World of Warcraft, emphasis on the WORLD part. It’s not world of mythics despite how many of you protest.
Aye it is, and the amount of accounts that got KSE that is listed on DataforAzeroth was around 34% for TWW season 1.
The number above shows that more than 1/2 the player base is not engaging in content that is meant to keep players engaged for the life of season. Blizzard has been using M+ to try to pad engagment since Legion. Even Ion let it slip that player particpation for M+ was not that high.
I think there is a huge misconception among the vocal minority of competitive players that think their play style is the norm for your average MMO player.
Housing could generate a ton of engagement if Blizzard does it right.
Just a side comment that is sort of relevant here. I think Blizzard’s approach to morphing WoW into a Diablo style seasonal ARPG has really backfired on them.
This is why we have seen a huge interest in playing the older versions of the game.
Retail WoW is a burn-out machine. The easy mode content which many players just do because they don’t want to bother with the competitive community doesn’t have any longevity either.
The typical scenario is that each new expansion or patch gets an influx of players that just devour the easy mode content then leave, and we have a small portion of players compared to the overall casual player base that will chase M+ rating, or try to tackle harder raid difficulties.
This might have worked in the past when interest in WoW was high, but I think WoW has got a lot tougher competition now. Mobas, Destiny style games, Moba style shooters, all offer drop in and drop out gameplay that doesn’t require 100 addons, hours of watching YT videos to compete in.
I think this is why WoW is trying to pivot to offer other forms of content in the game. They have been experimenting a lot since BFA, but a lot of it just fell flat because the reward tracks can’t compete with the super competitive content.
Yeah I don’t care at all about player housing, it’s a total waste of development resources. WoW has always been about the active content, dungeons, raids, etc., there’s other games like FFXIV that are a better niche for people that like this kind of thing. They should spend the resources on developing active content; it’s not like delves or a dozen other things couldn’t use a lot more development time.
All who do dungeons are with me. Housing is a waste of resources. Blizz should focus more on true pillars of WoW… dungeons, raid and PvP. More new games… develop further the Delves.
Blizz has to make a comprehensive guide to become better in dungeons to make people love their dungeons. How can a Soloist enjoy a Neighborhood? They never grouped. Soloist would end up with the worst house in the end. How about improving the Soloist to become a better group player who would love dungeons? Put the resources on such project first.
I suppose it is a “wise use of … time” if people are interested in it, will be engaged with it, and will subsequently enjoy it as a feature. What other standard is there? I mean outside of the implication that what you value is the only thing that matters.
The problem isn’t the dungeons. The problem is other players. The community has a fair number of repulsive people in it and you can’t do dungeons in any significant quantity without encountering them. The only way you’ll get the soloists to do more dungeons is by expanding the follower system. The community is irredeemable.
So now you want “barbie sims housing” attached to the game style you play? After claiming people who did dungeons were with you and didn’t want to partake in housing.
I am so glad you’re not a dev. You’re the type of dev that killed wildstars in the long run. Your “only dungeons matter” mindset is what drove all the players away and no matter the housing or what not, it wasn’t enough to bring people back. The mindset already killed the game.
Also, if it is anything like swtor or ESO, you will get cool furniture from raids for your house. A nice trophy if you will.
Ugh, I mean opinions are opinions and everyone is entitled to theirs for sure, but, for my own part, nothing would make me quit WoW forever than if the developers decided that only group content was the only thing worth focusing on in the entire game.
